I'm only 14 and ive completely changed my liftstyle from unhealthy couch potatoe to eating clean and healthy and going to the gym 5 days a week. Now i have been eating and training seriously for about 6 months and i'm really proud about my progresss and keep a positive attitude all the time towards myself, family and friends. I have not and will not start to do drugs or drink or smoke. i think that stuff is absolutely disgusting and not worth it at all.

Count me in for clean and proud of it... Listen you can take something and put the muscle on faster and then stop taking something and the muscle comes off even faster. Build it slow and steady, then it takes even longer to lose. Keep your temple clean, honor it with hard work and it will honor you by turning heads!

I've never been to deep into drugs, weed and I had a moment from summer '95 to Fall '97. Had some fun, made some money, got shot at, stabbed at, made some cops think twice about chasing a Varsity sprinter (that was funny!) but that came and passed. I still drink from time to time, not even enough to average a six pack/bottle a week though. My thing with the body being a sanctuary is that for me the gym is a sanctuary, while I'm under those weights I'm also figuring things out, like the family budget, issues at work, relationship issues, it's like I'm training mind and body. It even saved my marraige: about 1yr ago when my wife and I would get into it I would get so mad that I had to leave, (thank God for Xsport Fitness) I had a membership to a 24 gym so i literally lifted out my frustrations, the wifey thought I was at another womans house, I had her check my log-in record at the gym, now divorce court is just something we watch instead of someplace we think about going. I credit the gym with my physical and personal development. Also being in the military means drugs would severely change my ability to put a roof over my families head and food in the bellies of my babies. I'm never going that route, I'd rather drop my max squat on my nuts. I am feeling this "Clean" movement though. As a recruiter I see all the druggies when they stop by the recruiting station on their way to the bottom, hoping the Army can get them some discipline and a career, but by that time they've been in so much trouble all I can do for them is show them the door. Nick-You're the man, and an amazing example of what we in the Army call BE-KNOW-DO. Keep up the good and often times hardwork of practicing what you preach, staying disciplined, and making the most of whatever God has blessed you with. It's not enough to just be "Clean" it has to be promoted and encouraged because we all know that if a man/women will do something like that to their body, then they hold the potential to do something equal or worse to somebody else and that makes it a bigger problem.
Keep doing what you're doing.

i'm surrounded by temptation everywhere I go. i really don't know anyone nor am I friends with anyone that lives a clean lifestyle. It drives me nuts I can't find someone to hang out with that has the same look on alcohol/drugs/smoking as I do. My old brothers/sister all are big into drinking as are their friends. It's tough having older siblings that love havin parties and whatnot, but you yourself are not completely attracted to that.
My 21st birthday is coming in August and i've got people already wanting to take me out for some drinks, but honestly, I don't think I want to do it. It's like my mind is split 50/50 on whether or not I should drink. Part of me tells me, **** it drink up, then other part of me says otherwise. Just a few months ago I was content on drinking once I turned 21, but as I get closer to the date, the more and more I dislike the idea of doing so....

Natural is the way to go!
I grew up in a healthy enviroment, my parents own an organic health food store, so it's all I eat. I tried drinkin an pot april 13th 2002 but it was crappy an made me feel bad so I vowed never to do it again. I don't really have many friends cause everyone from my small town does that stuff an I dont like being around it. I think working out is great, it's summer here in canada right now so I'm doing more biking then going to the gym latly. But I think I'm going to move somewhere warm and where there are more people like myself, any ideas where that would be?
Thanks for your time

sXe rocks!
Wow, it's SO awesome to see all the Straight Edge people here----especially sXe bodybuilders! We sXe'ers are a rare breed... not many of us around, thus I was pretty psyched to see the response this thread has gotten! *major fist bumps to all!*
I've been sXe for life and will continue to be---no desire WHATSOEVER to imbibe in that destructive behavior. I don't smoke cancer-sticks, snort crack, or booze up. Doing so is just plain stupid and a slow death sentence. I'd rather pull out each individual eyelash with blunt, rusted tweezers than smoke a dubie or guzzle a fermented "beverage" that resembles pee-pee and smells like buttocks. :-P
Unfortunately, I barely know any sXe people nearby. So let's keep this thread going and form our own little sXe Bodybuilding clique----cuz everyone knows that sXe rocks!
:-)

I just quit smoking, and I don't drink at parties anymore cuz I'd end up smoking. I haven't smoked since the 4th of July. I know I can keep it up.

I'm Clean and sober.
I have been clean and over for a few years, I?m currently working on my associates in Addictions Treatment and Mental Health I?m getting my associates and DHS certification in September to help addicts and alcoholics, this will also help me continue in this path. I started to work out as well because I will like to help people make a complete change MIND-BODY-SPIRIT and I will help with my example. Is great to see people living a clean life.

I am a grateful recovering alcoholic drug addict who is 20 years old. I have definetly found bodybuilding as a healthy outlet for my energy/stress.
I have a question though:
What do you guys do for fun?
How do you guys avoid temptation at the bar/party?
Where do you guys meet women besides bars/parties?
How do I live a successful social life when the paradigm of thinking of people my age is to get drunk/high?

Congrats on your recovery! Repped!
I'll try to answer your questions.
What do you guys do for fun?
Things I do for fun: theme parks, ATVs, BMXs, paintballing, skiing, snowboarding, video games, girls, movies, camping, swimming, basketball, soccer, tennis, chess, TV, etc. My brother is learning how to play guitar and is building a car. There are so many fun things to do besides getting high and drunk!
How do you guys avoid temptation at the bar/party?
Stop going to the bars! It is not a place for a recovering alcoholic to be hanging out at. I am not sure what kind of parties you are talking about. The only parties I would go to are house parties with close friends. I have no problem staying sober though(went to one) but I never had a problem with alcohol. I have a problem wiht not smoking cigs and I eat sunflower seeds, they keep me from smoking. The biggest and most important step imo is to distance yourself from all the friends who are into bar/party scene. Then you have to realize that it is bad. In my case, I realized that I don't want to go out anymore because I know its going to interfere with my goals. Find other activities to do on the weekends that are more fun. (read above)
Where do you guys meet women besides bars/parties?
Everywhere! Places like: shopping malls, grocery stores, through school/work, gym, etc. I never hooked up wtih girls I met at a bar or a party.
How do I live a successful social life when the paradigm of thinking of people my age is to get drunk/high?
Not necessarily! There are people out there who don't drink or get high at all! Whenever you meet a new person and the person mentions drugts or alcohol, just distance yourself from that person. It might take a while to meet clean people and it is not easy, but you can do it. Just go play some sports (in the gyms, not on the streets, lol), get out there!
Once you find other things to enjoy, you will forget about alcohol and drugs. Gauranteed!

Thanks for starting this thread. Completely agree with you. Sounds cliche, but I get a natural high just from working out, and feel crappy when I don't (ENDORPHinADDICT!).--E

I don't get drugs/smoke/drink in my body and I never will!
The funny thing about those stuff is that they don't truly show what they really do until decades later. For example: someone starts smoking and decades later his/her lungs get some cancer or doesn't work properly which ALSO affects their brains since the brain needs oxigen to work.
About the food...
However I'm still challenged over the food and stuff since I live with my parents and its pretty much difficult to eat what I want because most of the stuff they buy I know they have much of saturated fat or hydrogenated stuff (aka, Transfats eww) but I just say NO whenever they offer me to eat a t.v. dinner or something that might risk my diet. I'm hoping for the day that I get to buy my own food/supplements so I can start packing more mass faster. Until now I gotta eat 3-4 times a day.
Remember guys: "You are what you eat" eat healthy, become healthy!

Motivating thread...
I'm not new to working out, but I'm new to bodybuilding. I'm hoping that I'll be able to get close to being straight edge one day, but for now, baby steps. I have been doing everything for the last 15 years, but actually just decided to make the change really recently, which is how I found this forum today. I just started a new diet and work out program on Monday. I leave for vacation in less than 3 weeks and know I will party there, but I decided on Sunday that I wouldn't touch any alcohol until I get there, so 3 weeks without alcohol for me. If you knew me you would know that is a very hard thing to do. Hopefully when I get back I'll be able to maybe keep the drinking down to one night a week. I started doing cardio for the first time since high school about a month ago, which is party what got me to loose some body fat which in turn got me thinking even more about body building. But from the cardio alone in the last month I have gone from a pack a day to about half a pack (Marlboro Ultra Lights)...
Anyways, I'll keep checking in here from time to time since it's really motivating...

What qualifies as straight edge?
I think I'm confused when it comes to discussing "straight edge".
3 things that come to mind. Illegal steroids, any product used to "enhance" your body, and anything that you put into your body at all.
It was my understanding that if you didn't take any illegal steroids you would be straight edge. From reading this forum, it seems that if you put anything at all that is not natural into your body you can not be straight edge.
This would mean that I could work out and eat all natural foods, not take anything illegal, not take any supplements like an NO product, but because I smoke, which is not a body/muscle enhancing product, I would NOT be straight edge?
Can someone please clarify? I don't not take any illegal steroids now, but I do take use Animal Pump, NO Xplode and White Flood for my workouts. I also smoke and drink.
