Body prior to training is a good question... I still think I'm predominately mesamorph, though... but I have endomorphic tendencies...
For a little while, I ate like $hit, didn't exercise, and got chubby/20 pounds overweight. Losing the weight was easy once I stopped eating like $hit and started working out (all I did was cardio at the time, mostly just biking). Keeping the weight off was also easy as long as I continued to stay active and eat mostly clean. Still, even before I touched a free weight, I appeared to have a decent amount of muscle mass. People asked me what I did for my biceps and triceps and when I replied with, "Nothing," they were a bit surprised.
And when I was a fatty (by my standards), most people thankfully assumed I weighed SIGNIFICANTLY less than I did... I was 175 but most people thought 145-155. At 125 (prior to training, post weight loss, was my maintenance weight for a good long while), people guessed 110-115.
Perhaps some of us just forget life before training

What some consider big muscle gain many be minimal to others. I would not claim I am purely meromorphic. In my eyes, a true mesomorph builds muscle mass like WOW. I don't typically see natural women with muscle gaining ability that is extraordinary, merely a respectable amount well deserved due to hard work.
I like to think true mesomorphic bodies are far more rare.

I can see that. I've done those online "tests" which peg me as an "ecto-mesomorph". That sounds pretty accurate for me as I see traits for both. Anyway, thank you!

Just to clarify, by "here" I meant bodybuilding.com as a whole, not this thread, when talking about "faking" being a mesomorph. And I didn't mean "faking" in a bad way (maybe a poor choice of words on my part). I just meant people are here trying to get their bodies to do things they don't have a natural tendency to do...I'd be one of those people.
I'm working with a chick who I think is quite mesomorphic, so I know y'all exsist! Upon meeting her, I was like, "Oh goody! A fitness buddy at work!" I was disappointed to find out she's never lifted and wasn't even into athletics in high school and smokes like a chimney. What a waste. She would have to put in some work to actually compete in bodybuilding but would probably would do well in figure just leaning up. She's fortunate she has a great, athletic-looking figure without even having to try.

Yeah, most people with mesamorphic traits, I think, have a few traits of one of the other body types, as well.
I'm inclined to think that some of the non-ecto-at-all mesamorph-mostly types probably have a bit of endomorph that is no longer obvious because of all the training, clean eating, and total dedication. I recall that before training, I gained all my fat weight in my stomach and hips. I had massive love handles when I was chunky. It's been a long time since those things have appeared on my body, but that's because I'm very active. Thing is, some people constantly struggle to get rid of weight and body fat and have a very difficult time doing so. Some people also have very large bone structures and it seems like no matter what they do (even if they eat far less than I do), they just can't get slim. What comes easy to me is a daily fight/challenge to others. I always think of those types when I think of endomorphs.

[QUOTE/] Ah yes, the waist issue some of you have mentioned, yeeaahh, same here. The smallest my waist EVER was, even at 120 lbs, was 27 inches. Now it's 28 inches, in my avatar pic it was 29 inches![/QUOTE]
hahaha don't you love how bodyfat tape tests all revolve around height, weight, and WAIST MEASUREMENT!? Even at single digit bodyfat, my waist didn't go much lower than 25, so given only my height, weight, and bodyfat, I would come up in high percentages! lol.
And you're right--I love the forums and fitness communities, because it feels great to embrace my body type and work with it instead of hating it.
PS: don't you hate long sleeve/jeans weather, when all anyone can see is MASS but not composition??? lol. I feel much more at home in a bikini.

I think I'm a meso, in just 6 weeks of training and kinda eating right I went from all fat to visible definition (under a good size layer of fat) in my quads... stocky, long torso, athletic (used to be...)... yup I think I'm a meso...
This is good! Maybe just maybe I'll end up being the spokes woman (terminology??) for my gym... they want before photos and of course afters once I get there. I'm going to try to take photos every two weeks to see how I'm doing.

Hi haven-lily
I think I fit ecto-meso. Muscular, kind of lean, broad shoulders, but very long limbs.

I have no idea what I am, I do not seem to fit into any of the body types.
Gaining muscle is hard, and when training they stay sore for days!
My shoulders and my hips are the same measurement and my waist is small, I'm funny looking, here is this short but lean torso and waist then suddenly this huge assplosion.
The little test here places me closest to being a meso, but I'm not sure as to why.

Mainly meso with one of the endo traits...I have always been flexible...but I've always had broad shoulders and my legs have always looked like I have a lot of muscle there....long before I ever picked up a weight...and no one can ever guess my weight

I'd consider myself very meso with a few endo traits. I gain muscle VERY easily. I have the classic hourglass figure with a tiny waist and larger hips and shoulder. I've always had broad shoulders, but with a little work I now have an excellent V-taper. At 147# I'm at a 26 inch waist. I do gain fat easily, which all goes to my hips and or upper arms and not my waist. I also have very lean forearms. I tan well which is another meso trait. I have the endo's great flexibility.

I've never looked into this before. Interesting.
That is so me.
I've always been able to gain muscle easily and it took over a year to lose it. My flexibility sucks. I could stretch everyday hoping to become more flexible, and i have, and i barely move an inch.
Always had broad shoulders compared to other woman in my life. "tightly strung", yep. But i also gain and lose weight easily on both ends. Eat too much crap, gain weight, eat under maintenance and train, lose fat and gain muscle.

Yep. SO TRUE. I guess that's one reason that I should be happy to be living in Florida, more warmer weather more days out of the year. Heh.

I took one of those online body fat tests plugging in my measurements---and the results were that I had 27 percent body fat. Those things are so useless it's beyond ridiculous. Because someone else with the exact same measurements as another person may look firmer or softer depending on diet, training, and body type.

I'm the opposite, I look just like your average petite woman when fully clothed. I always get described as "skinny" are very thin when I'm wearing jeans and a long-sleeved shirt. When I'm wearing summer clothing or a bikini I'm more likely to get described as looking very fit or buff. I think my muscles give an illusion of robustness, even on my short, small stature. In short I, too, think I look better in a bikini .

I think I qualify, but I also have some endo qualities because I gain weight pretty easily if I'm not monitoring my diet. Here is a pic:

I'm more of a mesomorph in that I can gain fat and muscle both fairly easily, but I also have endomorphic qualities in that I easily gain fat in my stomach

Probably meso. Definitely not ecto. Maybe a few endo characteristics mostly in the hips.
When I was 6 years old, I was a little ecto runt. All that ended once I discovered my bicycle and food LOL.

I tend to be very lean, naturally, and if I suspend my training and/or let my calories drop I lose both fat and muscle VERY quickly. I do have a few dominant mesomorphic qualities but if we have to choose one over the other (as in, I couldn't claim to be an "ecto-mesomorph") I'd have to say I'm an ecto and not a meso. Even so, in my avatar I think I look nicely mesomorph-ish, although I do not yet have near the mass that I would like to... it just shows what heavy training and a good diet can do, even for us ectos.

Didn't know there was a category for my body type! Huh.
I have wide shoulders and I've always been slightly more muscular than other girls. DEFINATELY not stickly even when I was average weight. I was always able to see muscle definition - most prominanetly on my triceps.

what happens when you dont work out lol
I am a mixed meso...Something like 80% Meso, 20% endo.
I know you wanted pictures of a meso, so let me give you a visual and a history from a meso thats not taking advantage of theyre blessed body type at the moment.
Since I was 9, I have always been built sturdier than the girls who I went to school with.
Often I was called fat, miss piggy etc. When your built like a brick sh*t house as a kid, thats often confused with being overwieght, when in reality your just not built to be dainty and the boys are jealous because as a teenager your arms are bigger lol
Currently Im sitting at 220. I dont look any bigger than 180. Some might say, 170.
For the last 6 months I have not been working in a warehouse nor have I been anyones mule as I am currently a stay at home parent and the heaviest thing I lift all day is Lucy.
As a meso whos let ones self go, the wieght has packed on fast and heavy. I was babysitting an 8 yr old and she refered to me as a tough marshmellow. lol Then I was getting my tribal fixed not only was I more sensitive to the needle, but it didnt wrap around my bicep as it used to.
I took those ques as hints to get back into the gym. Which is tough for me, I dont really need a gym. I gain muscle QUICK, and usually its all because of my occupations. I get put into stocking and warehouse jobs because I can lift more and faster than my coworkers. They call me the pusher on a shipping lines to get people motivated to keep up with me. So the gym, is a must when Im being sedontary or else I lose my physique and I lose it QUICK. However I still maintain 70%+ of my strength.
Currently Im focusing on bike cardio to burn the fat pockets, and lifting... doing more repetition at a lower wieght then busting out sets at max.
I dont remember ever seeing my abs.. I know that as a kid I have always had a thick waist thats sussposed to be smaller lol but thats where my 20% endo is.. in the hips making my hourglass figure even more pronounced towards the bottom.
I could care less if Im chunky in the middle so long as I get my ripped legs and arms back...
My calves and quads have always been ginormus.. now they deflated a bit and resemble rosie odonnel legs.. not attractive.
I am 5'4.
My torso is long, I have a plethora of tshirts from all different mfgs and every single one of them is to short and my beefy shoulders take up alot of room to.. so makes em shorter and I always feel confined.
My legs are short and thick.. I played hockey for most of my youth and did lots of leg excercises in the highschool wieght room. I remember my wieght coach's jaw drop and hit the floor when he saw me squatting well over 300 pounds. Sometimes if he wasnt looking Id be doing 400. That was ten years ago. I may not be able to squat that much but I can incline press with my legs 400-600 pounds. Im not sure how those numbers stack up in the bodybuilding world...
My arms are big.. not as big as I would like them to be.. at best my forearms are only 12" and my biceps 14". Thats not big enough.. Im sure now that Im not using they are smaller than that, I hope to increase my biceps to 18 and my forearms to 16.
Currently my goals are:
To thin out my torso, increase back and stomach muscles.
Improve my cardio stamina
Lose 40 pounds, but gain most of that back in muscle. I would like to be 220 with a BMI between 15-22.. Im not picky.. I know that that I will never be perfectly skinny and that I will always have a certain amount of chunk however I do want to increase my muscle mass and strength.
Define my legs from rosie odonnel back to when they looked like tina turner...
Being a meso is a gift and a curse..
Your body is like a machine, and you need to use it thats when it looks and performs the best. From my experience, I can eat what I want and do as i please so long as Im working my body and I can drop wieght hella quick, sometimes within a month I can lose up to 20 pounds. But conversely if you dont work out steadily, you will gain wieght and it wont be pretty.
I dont know about all of you who are builders and this is your lifestyle, but my meso body dosent gain wieght pretty. My latin and italian genes dont help the matter.. but I have to constantly stay on top of my work outs as Im quickly learning or else that hourglass figures because a bitch to control..

I don't really understand the science behind this, but it seems that I'm also mesomorph type- and I have a thickish waistline... straighter hips, I think I gain muscle easily for the work I put in. Pics in profile.

A thread after my own heart :)
I'm definitely a meso with some endo traits. Long torso with weight gain in butt and thighs first and last place to loose it. Gain muscle pretty fast, definitely confirmed that within the past couple of months... Legs are thick but leaning out with definition with a lot of work put into it. Lose weight fast but gain it just as fast. And I have always had people think I was a lot lighter than my actual weight. I think its dense bones or something... I have tiny wrist though so I'm not sure. Waist is at 26" and hips at 37" and I'm 5'7 but I have really high hips which my trainer said is something she's never seen before. Could be helpful or a curse when its time to have kids, who knows! Endo is my flexibility but I have been in dance for a long time which helps.

Meso here for sure.
5ft flat, walk around at 125 lbs.
The leanest i have ever been @ 5 ft is 112.
Gain muscle very easy.
NO flexibility.
Short thick legs, loong torso, wide shoulders, wide hips.
Sort of like a fit oompa loompa
