There are some popular steroids that you don't want to use while on Finasteride (like Deca). If I wanted to use one of those steroids, I would be SOL since Finasteride isn't something I would feel comfortable coming off of once I'm on. A lot of people consider it a lifelong commitment. Yes, others do disagree. Who is right? I don't know, I never came to a conclusion for myself. Either way, that was just an added layer of complication that I wanted to avoid. Let's also not forget that Finasteride blocks DHT. Of course, this will reduce your gains while on a cycle, but I'm personally more worried about the effects of blocking DHT while not on cycle when you don't have an abundance of DHT in your system.
Then there is the chance that Finasteride could totally jack up our hormonal system (see the youtube link I posted). It seems very rare, but for those who are effected, it is very severe and life altering. Like I said, it's rare and since most people aren't affected this way a lot of people consider it BS. However, if you do some googling you will see that there are quite a few people who report having their lives ruined by this drug. Even though I value my hair greatly, this isn't a risk I felt comfortable partaking in when there are other options.
What I've discovered is that people seem to have very good success with topical treatments. Namely, Nizoral, and spiro. Therefore, I opted to take that route. Would a combo of topicals + Finasteride work better than just topicals alone? Maybe, but I am not convinced that it would be significant let alone noticeable so long as the topical regimen was administered effectively.
Again, this is all just my perspective on the issue. Another tidbit of advice I can give you that might help you with your research is that there seems to be a LOT of bias when it comes to this issue. You could imagine how psychologically satisfying it might be for someone already on Finasteride to downplay or disregard the potential negative side effects of the drug - especially if they are not one of those who is negatively effected. Just my $.02.

Fair enough. Then let's put personal percpectives aside and focus on facts alone so that others are not mislead.
Ruined a lot lives you say? There is not one documented case in the history of anyone taking finasteride that it has ruined their life...that's the biggest load of crap I've ever heard lol.
Also note that ANY and ALL side effects encountered from finasteride are GONE/DISAPEARED/VANISHED when you stop taking finasteride.
Less than 4% of those who are taking finasteride for mpb have suffered the side effect of loss of libido. To what extent?...that remains unknown as for some it's very mild and for others it may be severe. Some even takin other medications to counteract the effect.
It is true that those who take finasteride for their mpb will lose all their gains when they come off the medication. Hence, once you're on you'll always be on. But does it make sence not to take it for this reason? Unless maybe you rather lose all your hair then it might.
Finasteride is FDA approved and is probably the only medication that is god-send like for those who suffer from mpb. If you are afraid of loss of libido from the medication and think it's intolerable simply stop taking it and everything will be back to normal.
On a side note, majority of those who did encounter loss of libido recovered from this side effect a few months later.
Some people don't even know they are geneticaly disposed to mpb until they jump on gear. Gear will accelerate or kick start the mpb that was bound to start anyhow. Therefore, obviously you'd want to stop it even it were to start in the future, so you mind as well start with finasteride the second you notice a shed on gear and stay on it.
Nizoral with 2% ketokonazole has shown in studies to decrease inflammation and somewhat dispose of scalp DHT. Finasteride targets DHT in the blood. They dont work the same but attack DHT at different angles, hence the reaosn for them working very well when used together.
I've used finasteride for 4 yrs with not a speck of sid effect. I did lose my sex drive for 3 months or so but it kicked back in. Now I take dutasteride significantly stronger than finasteride and still see no side effects. To each his own, but you may always stop and the side effects will be gone.
Pls don't spread false crappy rumours about "lives being ruined".
And to the Op, there's an abundance of wealth of info in this forum on finasteride and other hair loss remedies treatments.
