Fast or Slow Crunchs
does it make much of a difference if you do your crunches super fast (while maintaining solid form) as opposed to doing them super slow and keeping the muscle "under tension" for a longer period of time.. just wondering bc i usually do them super fast to get my heart rate up and get the blood flowing but logic would kinda suggest that the longer a muscle is under tension the more it will "grow"...thoughts?

I prefer going fast in the concentric phase and slow on eccentric, but to each their own.
Note: Apparently fast (or dynamic) concentric phases activate more fast twitch muscle fibres and creates a sensation of failure with every rep.

I prefer cable crunches and on those in particular, I go with a progressive routine.
I go slow initially and really concentrate, then begin to speed things up to bang out additional reps/partials.

slow and squeezing for me, I used to do fast sit ups like everyone else then woke up, started doing slow, proper crunches and really, really feel it. My abs tighten up like mad, it is a crazy sensation.
RE: when you mentioned fast but still with good form, is controlled rep speed not part of good form?

I like to do mine slow and keep them flexed. I see people doing it fast that seems like they are using momentum.

asking the deeper question
I do mine slow and tight. but the question does this help to get them shredded or increase the size of the muscle? There always seems to be a different technique to achieve different outcomes.
