Does my protein powder already have enough Glutamine, BCAA, Phenylalanine, etc...
My current protein is Whey Protein Isolate from Costco.
It has:
3989mg of L-Glutamine Acid
893mg L-Isoleucine (BCAA)
1747mg L-Leucine (BCAA)
1069mg L-Valine (BCAA)
957 L-Phenylalanine
per a scoop (1oz)
Is that enough of each ingredient to be sufficient?

All of your dietary protein sources contain those aminos - whey is not unique in that regard. So your daily tally is quite a bit higher than you think.

See, that's what I figured. I didn't think it would make any sense if this cheap-o Costco protein contained all this crap while other more expensive brands did not.
So my question is does it still make sense to add BCAA or Glutamine or Phenylalanine? If the vast majority of body builders are consuming protein that already contains this stuff, why buy the individual ingredients and add it to your diet which already contains it?
Like isn't ~5gs of Glutamine plenty? And I'd already be getting that from my Whey...so why buy the individual ingredient?
Same goes for the BCAAs and Phenylalanine.
I apologize if this is a stupid question. I'm new to all this and very confused.

Its one of those things, if you are competing, and want to make sure yo ucover every possible little angle, then maybe it is worth it. For most people, not needed.

So we can actually get enough BCAAs simply from drinking Whey?

Yeah I'm just confused as to why BCAAs are being sold as an individual ingredient to people who consume **** tons of whey and other sources of protein.
Or glutamine. glutamine sells all the time but it would seem you get plenty as it is (more than the recommended dose on the Glutamine packaging) from consuming various sources of protein.
My whey protein has 4gs of it per a scoop. And people consume multiple scoops a day.
What's the point of EVER buying glutamine on its own if you consume enough protein?

because amino acids in free form act faster than in complete proteins. basically you do not need it, as you do not fully understand this. dont worry about it at this point.

Wait, so not being able to understand something = your body wont benefit from it?
The book I'm currently reading really questions whether free form has any major advantages.

not being able to understand = not being able to understand how to make your body best benefit from it. that being said, these are not essential products. glutamine is not worth it at all, bcaa's have some merit, but are not necessary, and the same goes for phenylalanine. basically once you get to the point that you know what they do, how to use them, and how to notice if they are working, then you should go for it. until then, dont worry about it, and just continue training and educating yourself.

Alright, thanks!
One last thing: How do you feel about ZMA? The book I'm currently reading does not cover this at all.
Also, wouldn't taking a multivitamin (which I already am) plus ZMA = too much zinc, magnesium, and vit b6?

zma doesnt boost test. some popular products that have been around for years, do nothing. they were based on false science, or hopeful science, or sometimes an idea with no backing whatsoever. this is a copycat industry, so if someone comes out with something novel, it will often be copied without thought. most people also do not understand the true effects, so if they feel something, they think it must be working as advertised, even if the effect is not related at all.

Alright, for now I think I'm just going to keep my stack very simple: Multi, Fish Oil, Whey Protein, and Creatine.

youll find that you be happiest with that. at some point, you will start buying things to find what works best with you. after you spend $100's youll find that your core has barely changed.
