Squats & Mesomorph Body Type
I was recently told because I am Female and my body type is Mesomorph, I shouldn't be doing squats because squats will make my torso thicker/wider. Does anyone have any comments on this? Should I really be skipping this all important excercise?
I would LOVE any comments or feedback on this. Thanks!!
Adele

Shut up and squat.
But seriously, I don't see how it would make your torso thicker and wider, but it sure would make your glutes bigger.

Thicken the torso, widen it, maybe a little but what we are talking about here is adding muscle and strength not significant width. You can still have a flat tummy if you squat. even if you widen your waist slightly the rest of the exercise program will widen your back and perk up your chest making for a more womanly figure despite any insignificant thickening of the lower back.
Short version: squats are good.

You're not a mesomorph. Even if there were such a thing (somatotyping is a horse**** idea debunked 40 years ago in the medical community), at 5'3", 111#, you would not be it.
When in doubt, squat. Then squat more.

Yeah, that's what I figured. I didn't want to stop squatting, gotta keep firming the bum. So yes, I will squat, and then I will squat some more....
Thanks for the replies.

In order for squatting to have a negative effect on your waist you would have to squat 3 times a week for YEARS and also be squatting 4 times your bodyweight for reps.
As well as work your obliques like a madwoman.

Why do you think the old stories tell of men who set out on great journeys to impress the gods? Because trying to impress people just isn't worth the time and effort.
