So are you saying you were doing or are now doing the 2 miles 3 days a week? If you're able to run like that right now then I would recommend stepping up and running a mile or more (depending on how you feel) in between those days so you're running 6 days a week.
The second thing I would recommend is checking with your doctor to see if you can do some lower body training with lighter weights to not re-aggravate your knee. It's going to be really tough to shed pounds if you can't train your lower body too. Keep in mind that it's not typical for someone to experience extreme weight loss in the first few months of training and you'll be fine. I had a 6 month goal to get my weight down last year and it only took me 5 months and running/boxing workouts is what got me there. Good luck with your goals!
