Searching for a new Gym in Atlanta Buckhead Area
Any one who's read my blog or lurked on my thread "Have You Noticed??" has read my crazy stories about the antics at my Gym.
Well, yesterday was the last straw.
So, I am looking for a new gym. The old one? LA Fitness. I'll not be going back.
Anyone have any suggestions? It's been a 1 1/2 years - enough of the dumb, dumb ****, time to move on!
I'm looking for:
Buckhead area
Reasonable price
Nice people (not looking for pick ups)
Clean (no **** in the shower or homeless people)
HELP!

Reason: I believe Gold's Gym might be the closest to Buckhead.

TG, I found these posts when I searched the "Gyms to consider..." sticky:
You might also want to get in touch with Tiffany (Tifflex).

TuffGirl, the LA Fitness in Buckhead was my regular gym until I just couldn't take it anymore either, which was about 3 months ago.
I joined Lifetime Fitness, which absolutely blows away LA and every other gym I've been to, but there isn't a location close to you. I live in Alpharetta and they have 3 locations near me, at Windward, Johns Creek, and Sugarloaf. Buckhead won't be open for another year.
If you think you can conceivably handle a drive up 400 to Windward, you really should check out Lifetime. It's like no gym you've seen before. More like a resort spa, but with serious gear. $60 a month, which I think is reasonable for what you get. That's it in the background of my pic, but you can't see much. Everything is always spankin' clean. Rows of cardio as far as you can see. Huge hottubs, inside and outside pools with slides, towel service, great showers and locker rooms, etc.
The only problem I have with it, and it is a big problem, and nearly a dealkiller, is that they are EXTREMELY kid-friendly. It seems all the members are families, and kids run around constantly. This is a huge problem for me. I wish they would control the kids more.
But the flip side of that is that this place is NOT a pick-up gym in any way. There is no harrassment or eyeballing going on.
That Buckhead LA Fitness....just damn.

Can never go wrong with Golds. I learned the hard way, I tried another GYM called Snap Fitness, I missed golds and when I came back I appreciated it that much more.

Good luck. Another reason I love having a home gym.

Im at the LA fitness on Spring street downtown and its pretty good. Its right by Georgia Tech and The Cheetah so there are always plenty of hot girls there. But it can get really crowded around 7 when I like to go.

I saw Joe mentioned Tiffany, but I think she's over near Decatur (?), and that probably won't help you. It'd be sweet if my 19yr old GT student could get you into their gym . He says it's "world class", but I haven't even seen the inside.

I go to Adrenaline Fitness in Chamblee. Not quite Buckhead but only a few miles away from the Lenox area.
To describe it would be to say that it is very much like a small town gym. Don't let the parking fool you. It is definitely NOT like LA Fitness as far as crowds. At 5-7pm, you can generally get in, work out, and go home in normal time. Only once in 2 1/2 months of going almost every day have I had to wait for any equipment. And that one time it was waiting for a guy to finish his last set of BP. Everyone seems to be there to work out and not treat it like a pick up joint. People even tend to re-rack their weights. I've never seen a dirty shower or homeless people there. At least that's how it is from a guy's perspective. The rates are reasonable as far as I'm concerned. I got 40 bucks a month with a 1 year commitment and was quoted 50 bucks month to month. My start up fee was 37 bucks (counted as the first month) so it was not crazy like some gyms are with the sign up fee and what not. Hope that helps.

Hubby wants an "Office"... We did manage to get a recumbant bike and a few weights in there, but I need more! I need a real GYM to keep me motivated.

Thanks for the pat on the back, Farsscf, but It's gonna get tough here pretty soon. Marty (my trainer) is moving to California next month. I have been down in the dumps just thinking about it. He has been such a motivator! Gosh, a Former Marine Yelling at my Fat Ass Day in and Day out, for a year and a half (5 days a week) embarrassing the hell outta me in front of everybody.
That's IT! Maybe I should just give it all up and enlist in the Marine Corps!

I'm over in Gwinnett County but I work in downtown Atlanta.
Tuffgirl, the only gym I could recommend would be Gold's because I am a member. I think the closest one to you is near Courtland Street.

Thanks for the link Arlecchino. I'm thinking about powerlifting and I'm not too far from Duluth.

I know one of the personal trainers who work at this gym TuffGurl. He's also a competitive BBer and very friendly. He workouts out at my gym regularly because it's full of gym rats but I visited his gym and really liked it. You should check it out. They offer one week complimentary passes.
Good luck

Sounds pretty cool, GA, but none of their locations will work for me.
Here's the latest:
I submitted my "I quit!" Form to LA Fitness via Certified Mail on Monday. It takes 30 days for them to process my last billing, so untill then I am riding out my workouts at the LA Fitness at the Perimeter Mall Location. (Just a little bit better) I'll keep you posted on what happens next. From what I understand, Quitting LA Fitness is like DIVORCING the Devil - they'll probably take my credit card for a ride!

They killed my account with no issues. I sent in the letter and then called when I didn't receive anything back. There has not been a charge since. I did that on March 13 and my cycle was on the 15th. Nothing since the March 15th payment. Maybe I'm lucky because I had heard the same thing. <knocking on wood>

My father would kill to be up here watching this game. Me? Nah....lost interest a long time ago in any pro sports. And it's cooled down to a comfy 82* here at 9PM, so I'm sure it's nice being amongst thousands of other humans right now. Damn, I remember taking my oldest son to his 1st Braves game....drenched in sweat and hot as hades . Back to your regular scheduled programming.......
