Muscle Catabolization While You Sleep..

Yeah, I take casein protein before bed but I'm not too keen on waking up 4 hours into my sleep cycle to smash another 30-40 grams of protein. Suppose that all my pre-bed casein is in fact utilized 4 hours into my sleep cycle. How much catabolization is actually occuring?

I have a bad habit of waiting about an hour before eating when I wake up. Sometimes it's because I'm calculating my protein and caloric consumption for the day since it's somewhat predicated upon my expected activity levels. So.. 9 or so hours without protein consumption.. How much catabolization is actually occuring? It's not that I'm not dedicated enough to wake up in the middle of my sleep cycle. It's fear that if I do, I won't be able to fall back asleep and then we're talking compromised GH and testosterone levels, etc. Wouldn't that make it a wash? Thanks in advance for your input.

Unless you're a six-pound infant, there's no need to wake up in the middle of the night to eat. Calm down.

Sleep is when your body can quit "paying attention" to all the activities of the waking hours and work on repairing the damage done to muscles by workouts. Sleeping isn't particularly energy-intensive, so your body isn't going to start devouring your muscles to keep itself going. Have some protein and a little complex carb before bed and chill out.

I would like to see any study that shows you lose muscle during sleep, assuming that you eat ANY kind of protein before bed.
