A multivitamin, fish oil, and whey are a great start.

I would ask you first "why?" Or, "what do you need to supplement for?" Do you need something for overall health reasons (multi, vitamin c, fish oil, etc.)? Or soreness maybe (glucosamine, cissus, etc.)? Or maybe convenience (protein powder, meal replacement, etc.)?
Generally speaking I prefer to see people start out with just the basics. A good multivitamin (as mentioned) would be a good start. From there, I think a quality protein powder could be beneficial, but mostly for convenience reasons (it's easier and faster to make a shake and drink it rather than cook and eat chicken breast, for example).

You'd be wasting your $$$. Most supps are worthless. All you need is a clean diet and a good protein shake.

Eat healthy then. Supplements aren't synonymous with "good diet."
Great goals, and I think you will figure your way. Just keep it simple for now:
Good food
Good rest
Good workouts
Consistency on these three will get you further than any powder or pill.

I would say drop the shake and replace it with fish oil caps unless you eat salmon 3 or 4 times a week. Want more protien? Drink a few eggs. 30 cost $2.

There are digestion issues with the eggs. Pasteurized egg whites are cheap and can be mixed in with oatmeal or... well, whatever. They may look like snot but they have no flavor and the protein is already denatured so they digest better.
Fish oil is sound advice, but I'm not sure it is the do-or-die supplement lots of people claim it is. Maybe not the worst thing you can buy, but I can't see it being necessary.

For people who eat grass-fed beef and omega 3 eggs every day, and fatty fish a couple times a week, fish oil is not a must have. It is to suppliment a flaw in most of our diets.
