Equipment stores in Toronto
I'm going to Toronto sometime soon. Can anyone suggest equipment stores I can check out while I'm there?
So far, the ones I've found are:
Treadmill Factory
Fitness Source
Canada's Fitness

Are you looking for something in particular or just planning to browse?
The Treadmill Factory and Canada's Fitness Superstore are the same physical store(check the location on each web site) but with different web presentations. The Treadmill Factory's web site lists almost everything they sell but the store only has a small portion of this on display with the major floor area devoted to cardio stuff.
Fitness Source has 3 locations in the Toronto area but for some reason they have not built up a useable web site since they took down the old one early this year. Each store is laid out differently and I have only visited the 109 Doncaster Rd and the 3240 Langstaff Rd stores with the Langstaff location having the bigger display area of equipment.
Of course there are several Fitness Depot outlets in and around Toronto and these emphasize their own Northern Lights brand of equipment along with the regular multibrand cardio stuff.
Although Foremost Fitness has an impressive web site in terms of equipment variety including their own custom items, without any pricing information on the web site it is hard to judge its relevance for comparison shopping. The store location seems to be more of an office/shipping point with a token power rack and a couple of other small things on display. They seem to be focused on supplying commercial instututions.
Hope this helps.

I realized that Canada's Fitness and Treadmill Factory are the same store shortly after I posted this. I'm looking for a power rack, but I highly doubt I'll be buying...so basically I'm just browsing for now.
I believe I've called Foremost Fitness once asking about their power rack prices, and if I remember correctly, their cheapest rack is like $800+...which is too expensive for me. The guy said its because all their racks are made in North American, not "Chinese crap." I might go check it out anyways if I'm near their store.
I'm not really planning on checking out Fitness Depot, mainly because they already have stores here in Ottawa anyways...and plus, their stuff is pretty expensive as well.
Anyways, thanks a lot...will rep

I've checked most of the stores you listed myself, when I was looking for some home gym equipment. From what I've found, The Treadmill Factory has the better pricing and bigger selection of items.

Yeah thanks!

Check out Dotmar Fitness in Mississauga. Most of their stuff is commercial and blows everything else out of the water.

Hi guys, I was looking for a good FID bench and someone got back to me about a bench they bought from Dotmar Athletics. The seller said it's high end quality ("a step up from Northern Lights").
If you've been there and checked out the equipment, can you please tell me more about the bench in the pictures? The Dotmar Athletics website is under construction so it's a little hard to get any details about it right now.
Thanks.

Hey guys,
I saw this thread so I thought I'd just my question here.
What store would you say is the cheapest to buy some basic dumbells and plates? (in GTA)
Should I bother going to a fitness store or would a place like Walmart be cheaper?
I'm not looking for anything fancy. Just a couple of dumbells and maybe 4 10lb plates.
Thanks

I've shopped at Dotmar for a number of things over the years. All of their equipment is high end. Matrix equipment is commercial gym quality and is indeed a step up from NL. I have a Maxtix seated calf and dip station. It's not cheap but it will last you a very long time.
Dotmar's website has been under construction for a long time. Email the manager, Jamie. He knows his stuff and will be quite helpful to you. Your best bet is to actually go into the store. They have a decent sized store front with 2 warehouses in the back. Ask for the Matrix catalogue and that'll give you an idea of what the Matrix line is. They can custom fit some stuff for you too.
I've never used or seen the bench you're talking about so I can't comment. I can just say that it's probably very high quality steel.
