You can get airborne in your contract, doubt you'll be able to get ranger though.

Is Airborne something that is easily gotten into your contract or is it something that you have to bargain for? Most people I hear from say that they were given the option near the end of basic. Is it because they didn't know to ask for it or is it something hard to get?
Is it even possible to get Ranger school in your contract? I think I've heard of some option to get it if you're Infantry (maybe?) but my MOS choices probably wouldn't be worth a Ranger spot. Anyway, I don't even think that's something I'd be interested in...but it helps to know what is available.

They sometimes offer it in basic. My rotation got 0 offers. I believe you would need to enlist as 11x to get ranger in your contract, I may be wrong.
You can get airborne in a contract, it's not like a super secretive school that only takes the best of the best of the best. They take anyone from e1 to o5 and even cadets.

A leg?
Oh, btw...for anyone who has gone to Airborne school...do a lot of guys get injured? I think I read something like that in this thread and my Pa told me lots of guys got broken ankles when he was in.

<-- five jump chump right here.
Leg is someone who is not airborne qualified.
Lots of people do get injured, I got stress fractures but made it ok.
It sucks because you run by height, I was one of the taller ones so I found my way to the back of a 300 man pt run, constantly running in one place than sprinting.

Gotcha.
That sucks about the injuries. Is it the jumps that people get injured on or what?
So short dudes are up front? I am 5'8". FUUUUU.

Front is where you want to be. Let me count the injuries as I recall them.
I seen one guy break his ankle from jumping. One dude caught a rip cord around the neck, he was lucky to get off with just a burn. Another pulled his e shoot and got tangled and dropped to the ground. There was one who got his leg caught in his cord and torn something in his knee and this is the best one, one dude was hit by lightning while falling. Talk about **** luck, there were hardly any clouds out.
Lots of people become heat casaulties or just quit.

Dropped to the ground? From the plane???
Holy ****...struck by lightning? Wow. What are the odds of that? Damn!
What's the benefit of being upfront?

We're up at the revolution right now but when we get to WW2 and Vietnam it's gonna be an epic learning experience from this dude.

If you really want the experience of getting close to WW2, need to get stationed in Europe, lots of history. I have learned alot about our true warriors that went through true termoil and hell! I have walked in the areas of alot of these battles that were epic battles that helped win these wars in this war torn continent! I hated history in HS, but wished that I had paid more attention now that I am over here. Battle of the bulge is only 45 minutes from where I am stationed right now and I will be doing a 128 KM march in that AO in the Ardennes Mountains over 4 days. I always have a study group of the AOs history before we do marches so my soldiers know where they are and what happened so they can take something from that experience of being here and not just being stuck in the armpit of Europe!!

Go to the Ranger Regiment homepage - or maybe even Goarmy.com and they'll have a list of all available MOS's that they have. It's primarily 11 series - Infantry, but there are sereral other support MOS's too.
If thats what you want then pick "Option 40" when you go to MEPS. That will guarantee you a slot in Airborne School, then the Ranger Indoctrination Program (RIP). If you make it through that then you'll go to a Ranger unit and await a slot at Ranger school.

I will wrap my hands with tape, then put glue on the tape, then put my hands into a bucket of broken glass, and then punch you with these home-made devastators, which I will now refer to as the 'shredders'.
