yes, rig something up. With enough hooks, loops and lengths you could adjust the crap out of it and have any weight you want. Plus itd be cheaper than buying pre made ones.

No. BUY ONLINE. I got screwed over from buying at home depot. I bought 20 lbs of chians (4 5 foot pieces) for 90 $. ANd I got the biggest chian they had and it was only a lb a foot. online their is 50 lbs of chains for 80$. Online is better and cheaper most of the time.

So I didn't want to start a new thread...
I'm going to just buy chains from Harbor Freight and rig them up. I need 5 feet of small chain wrapped around the bar connecting to 5 more feet of 1/2" Is that it? I would think that all the same size chain would make a better chain setup, yes I know that i'm still a noobie but I just need some tips.

IF you are a noob you don't need chains.
Chains are a techniques to use when you have gotten the most you can out of standard lifting and have hit a sticking point. adding them to your program right now would be a waste.

I have always preferred these wood chains to go with my wood rack. They look great in a home.

^^^ what he said.. i am also interested in this, i work out alone in my basement and hold back going into the heavier sets sometimes without a spotter. is that the reason chains are used? so that the lift progresively gets heavier throughout the rep?

Yes, it's so as you lower the weight, they pile on the floor, reducing the weight on the bar, as you press up they come off again increasing the weight.
They aren't designed to be a replacement to a spotter, they are meant to teach speed strength out of the bottom (so you start fast to overcome the added resistance at the top) and overload the muscles you lock out with (triceps for bench).

good post. its meant for speed to over come sticking point at top and to put extra work on your triceps.
