Hi Bob, I noticed alot of pros talk about the financial aspects of bodybuilding with the sponsorships etc. I got an idea that might be beneficial.
Its a draft system that is similar to the NBA.. Where you have teams draft their players each season. So this can be a big event prior to the bodybuilding season where the 5 top supplement companies will draft the top 20 active bodybuilders based on the ranking. So each supplement company will have a team of 4-5 bodybuilders each year. These bodybuilders will be on paid contract, the top company paying more than the 5th. So it could be Muscle Tech, Champions Nutrition, EAS, Metrx, Bodybuilding.com.. etc. This drafting will take part in an auditorium with audience and media.
I think this will be a major step in bringing the 'sport' of bodybuilding into the forefront.
For the fans. You can have bodybuilding cards. just like in baseball. with the athlete profile, yearly ranking and team. The fans can collect all cards and get them signed to receive a free gift. something along those lines.

Hey Bob, this has probably been asked before, if so sorry man....but, how did the older pros have such smaller waists then todays pros? Like Arnold, Serge nubret, Haney, Gironda, Bob Paris...was it their training, less food, or what they were taking?

sodium
Hey Bob, how do you feel about sodium...Is it ok to eat a moderate amount or should it be kept to a minimum. I've seen mixed responses on this.

Cheers Bob, it's great to get advice finally from a REAL proffesional, instead of those know it alls that you see in gyms occaisonally. With the leg press knee pain I use a 45 degree leg press and my legs are at a 90 degree angle before I start the set. Apparently this is the correct way to do it, so I'm a little confused as to what I'm doing wrong. A few more questions if you don't mind:
1, What do you think of Steve Michaliks "intensity or insanity" principle?
2, Is getting up in the middle of the night for a small meal really necesary (I've heard mixed views on this)
3, What is your favourite bodypart to train and what muscle do you believe is your best?
4, Do you prefer the straight bar curls of EZ bar curls?
5, Is it only the barbell bench press that you avoid? do you do other flat bench movements like dumbell presses and flies?
6, Do you believe Nasser should have won the 97 Olympia? And do you think Mentzter should have won the 1980 Olympia?
7, Who had better quads, Tom Platz or Branch Warren?
Thanks for the advice on slow cardio, I'll start using that. I used to use HIIT cardio and burned about 15 pounds of muscle, had to pull out of my first show because I looked frail!

Hey bob,
Question about deloading
Ive been working out hard for almost a year but never did a correct 'deload' as everyone suggests. My joints ache and i've plateud in almost EVERYTHING. I always took adequate rest time.
Question: How long should I deload and take it easy? I understand its about the long run...
Thanks!

1. I think it's insane
2. Not only is it unnecessary...but counter productive to disturb sleep which is responsible for building muscle.
3. Never had a favorite...I guess arms if I had to pick one
4. EZ curl..by far
5. DB presses/ flies, etc are fine. It's the positioning the straight bar puts you in that makes for being prone to injury
6. Nasser- possibly
Metzner- no way
7. Platz
8. No surprise there....try my method, it's proven

|
Inner calves- toes out/heals in
Look at any dancers calves....especially ballerina
Tear drop- lunges/ front squats
Lower pecs- dips/ declines (DB and BB)

There is a lack of reliable information as to his condition and even some rumors that supposedly his family (daughters) were responsible for it through poisoning (or other similar means) and were hindering his recovery.
I'm not sure what Kiwi_ has in mind that bb.com could do. Maybe he's hoping that you would have some more reliable information given your connections within the industry. At the very least it would seem noteworthy to mention on your weekly radio show to raise some awareness as to Serge's condition.
There are rumors that he was training to come to the US for a guest posing at the Olympia and perhaps do a US tour. Do you know anything about that either?

Deloading, aka Dual Factor Training
Fatigue - The decreased capacity or complete inability of an individual or a bodypart to function normally because of excessive stimulation or prolonged exertion - note fatigue can be very temporary as a result of acute stimulii (i.e. biceps get fatigued from a set of curls) or fatigue can be sytemic and cumulative (i.e. the body and its systems are fatigued from hard training over a period of weeks/months)

It basically means, you have lifted heavy for so long your muscles adapt to the repetitive intense fatiguing of the muscle. Deloading, or deconditioning, calls for training at 60-80% of weight, but remain at 100% intensity.
I believe this is why I have plateu'd so hard for so long...After training heavy for almost a year, I have tried various exercises and changed my diet but to no avail, I am still plateu'd.

Hitting a plateau is as common as it gets...I'm not sure about this "deloading" stuff...100% intensity is just that....100%.
All you're really doing is lessoning the weight....if you're adding more reps to compensate and get to "100% intensity"...then all you're doing is changing up the routine.
TIME...is what gets you out of a plateau

Ben Weider did reach out to Serge and vice versa) before his untimely death, and did invite Serge to attend the Olympia, possibly with an opportunity to guest pose....
As for info....I probably know as much as anyone else at this point.

How much weight have you put on in those 4-5 months? Maybe try backing down on the volume but keep the weights heavy.

Bob need advice possible overtraining
not had a rest now like a week off since well i cant remember always train hard and recently been doin this FST-7 training i noticed that sleep has been disturbed even though am eating plenty of calories i feelin flat which on 500-600 clean carbs and 300-350 grams protein a day i cant understand i not cutting or dieting. these are what i am experiencing
- Disturbed unrest sleep
- low sex drive or not as high as usual
- lack of pump in gym
- generally feel weaker instead of wanting to tear up the weights
what should i do take a lay off and for how long ??? and should i eat high calories when i do ?? thanx for any response
note : i am not training naturally but i know overtraining can occur no matter what you use or how good your diet is ?? i put it down to the little kid disturbing my sleep lol

hey bob big fan of your physique and i have watched all 3 or your workout dvds from bb.com!
i just had a few questions that i hoped a knowledgeable person like yourself could help me with..
1. When you do liss cardio when you're dieting, do you think its better on a low carb diet, or does it work with a higher carb diet as well?
also do you think hiit cardio is better for a higher carb diet or would you not recommend it? does the cardio make a difference if your a natural or not?
2. as a natural how many pounds of muscle/overall weight gain would you recommend one to gain in a year?
3. Do you feel that squats/deadlifts or any other exercises extend or widen the abdominal region and obliques too much? What exercises do you to replace deadlifts or squats?

Your problems seem hormonal... if you are having those symptoms, go into the AAS section and start a thread stating what you're taking. It probably has more to do with what you're taking and less with not having taken a week off in a while... I never take a week off.

Hey Bob,
Is there a good soap out there to keep skin pimple or clog poor free? Do you reccommend one?
Obviously before competition or just to have clear skin (especially arms).
Thanks Bob

Hey Bob, I just got the DVDs and I love all the exercises you demonstrate on them. I would like to incorporate ALL of them into my routine, but I don't want to overtrain.
What is the max number of exercises I can do for one bodypart in one workout without overtraining?

quick question for a pro:
I have a show next weekend.. I plan on enjoying myself saturday night, but I have another show 3 weeks after that show. Most competitors tell me to give myself the weekend to eat whatever I want then get right back on my diet monday. How do you feel about that or should I get right back on my diet sunday?
