BSN SYntha-6 Cookies and Cream Review!
After hearing about the newest flavor to the Syntha-6 line I figured that I'd order some up and let everyone know how it turned out. I am not normally a huge fan of Cookies and Cream flavoring but being that all four flavors that preceded this are spectacular I figured why not. Like usual the powder was fluffy and finely ground, undoubtedly why all of the Syntha-6 flavors mix to a creamy consistency with no clumps or grains. Unlike many Cookies and Cream flavors though there are actual bits of what appears to be cookies in the powder, the black cookie pieces float in the shake rather than mix in. Don't worry they are infinitely small and do not make it weird but they are there. The flavor was sweet and smooth, the pronounced sweet cream with Oreo-chocolate flavor was spot-on and delicious but not at all overpowering. In addition to the flavoring being delicious it has no artificial/chemical taste and there is no aftertaste at all. Overall, the Cookies and Cream flavor of Syntha-6 is what we have come to expect -- absolutely top of the line, and IMO worth the extra money. If you are a fan of this type flavor give this a shot any you'll never buy any other brand again.
The protein powder was mixed in a turbo shaker and made with fat free milk.

Good to hear, I was checking through the BSN site today, and noticed that they now sold C&C. I've been satisfied with Strawberry and Vanilla, I guess its time to check out mochachinno, chocolate and C&C.

I think all the flavors rock but what concerns me about this product, like the Muscle Milk product is the high fat content. I know it's "good fat" but i get enough of that from eating healthy foods like Salmon.
Any thoughts? Even though it's not as tasty, Optimum Whey seems to be much better "pure" protein with a fine taste.

If you like the strawberry and vanilla I would say definitely try the Moccachino and C&C, personally moccachino is my favorite, they really nailed that one.

High fat? Come on man, 5g of fat per serving is next to nothing. That is less than you get from 8oz of 1% milk! Syntha-6 contains less than half the fat of a serving of muscle milk and I do not feel that at two shakes per day the extra 10g of fat is going to kill anyone, escept those on a strict cut for a contest. For me it is simple to clear out room in my diet to allow a few more grams of fat. Also, I can not even draw comparisons between ON and Syntha-6, taste wise they are not even close, and Syntha-6 mixes thick like a milkshake not watery.

I've been using the ON double choc. whey protein, and i don't have a problem with it at all. the important thing to look at is:
How many grams of powder per serving/grams of protein per serving.
http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/opt/natwhey.html
one serving of on whey is 31.4 grams of powder and you get 23g protein ( 73.3% protien ) out of that with only 1.5 g fat. (4% fat)
syntha 6 http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/bsn/synth.html
one serving is 44 g powder for only 22g protien. ( 50% protein ) with 6g fat. (13.2% fat)
i guess it all boils down to: how concerned are you about how it tastes? I honeslty dont care, and if i'm going to be shootin doin the whole protein/ supplement thing anyway, why not do it the best way possible? in otherwords, if your trying to be healthy, taking a supp that has extra stuff like syntha is kinda like shootin yourself in the foot...

Why assume that a protein supplement that contains some carbs and fats is inferior to one that does not? Can a protein supplement not be used throughout the day to fill the void when you can not eat a whole meal that should include carbs and fats? Not to mention the whole quality of the protein issue that exists between different companies; look up the ON vs. Beverly thread for a nice read. Personally I choose to use a protein supplement that is more well rounded to use throughout the day as opposed to one designed specifically for PWO usage containing only protein. Syntha-6 in milk works like SAN Infusion for me, a meal replacement for when I need a high protein meal but do not have time to actually sit and eat. I guess you do not need that. But then why comment in the first place?
I would really like to not see any more "But Optimum is the BEST" comments pop up in here. Truthfully, I feel it is mediocre, at best, on my most generous day. To each their own but IMO they are not even comparable so lets leave it at that.

That's true. To each's own. However, someone brought up a question about the fat content, and I went on to address that a bit more. I am not trying to sell ON's whey. It's simply what I use, I could care less what anyone else chooses to use, but what your saying is true as well. My view is based on the idea that your purchasing a protein supp. for just that... protein. Not tryin to throw fists here, just was tossin a few numbers on the table so that it was a little more easy to grasp my ideas.

I brought up the fat content and it was my second post so you know i'm not "selling" any product. I just agree with Cassette. If you get more protein per gram, it if's cheaper, if it tastes good enough for you, why do you NEED the extra fats and carbs? I know i get enough of those in my diet. If someone here posted there is scientific proof or studies that show the more "balanced" syntha 6 complex is better for you that i would surely listen. Otherwise, i agree, it just comes down to taste and i don't drink shakes for taste, i drink them for their bodybuilding benefit.

I guess I can not win. This is a REVIEW of a product, not a discussion on which you think is better for YOUR personal goals. If you do not have a need for the product being reviewed then why post derogatory comments about said product or compare it to something entirely different? It is nonsensical.
This product is often used as a meal replacement which should include carbs and fat, unless that is you eat only egg whites or boneless/skinless boiled chicken as a MEAL. And for the "studies or proof" I suggest you read up on the differences between WPI/C and casein, most importantly the effective protein concentrations in blood serum levels when comparing the two types of protein.
Again this is a REVIEW not a debate -- please leave the "but ON is the best" comments for another thread. If you do not have any interest in using this product then please leave without sharing your wealth of knowledge concerning how great ON is.

Totally agree. 10g of fat is not going to kill anyone. In fact I drink syntha 6 like 2-4 times a day, somedays more. It's thick and it's tasty like a milkshake. I hate protien drinks that are watered down....some of them tastes like barf. To me, taste comes first.
