That's the "flash and pizzaz" that the branches like to throw at people since most people who enter are fairly young and looking for excitement. If you were much older they'd tell you all about the stability, the experience you can gain and how your family would be taken care of. Just be straight up with them, if they don't give you what you want then move on, don't waste your time there. They keep saying it's hard but are they trying at all to get that job for you? They're trying to deter you away from the job since it means they have to work that much harder for you.

Yeah he was telling me how the spots for FF go out so quickly and that I will have to wait a while. What does this mean? I will be at basic training until a spot opens up for me to get into the FF program or will I be able to train as a FF as I wait for a spot?

no, you wait in DEP (delayed enlistment program) until a fire protection slot opens up for you. this could be weeks or months.
once it's available you go to basic.

You've spent 21 years of your life not in the military. What's another 4 months? Besides, that gives you plenty of time to get in shape, brah.

Stupid question, but did you guys just go see a recruiter? Or call and set up an appointment? I filled out the form and I was waiting to see if the Air Force recruiter would call me, but I'm just gonna give him a call on Monday and try and set up an appointment.
Also, I'm ****ting bricks about the ASVAB. (ya serious) I haven't done anything like that in a while, and I'm nervous. Not very good at math, and I like to really take my time at math. How did you guys do? If you remember, of course. What's a score thats good, that can basically land me any job? 75? 80? 85? Just looking for someone to tell me to not worry about the ASVAB =P
Got a book and I'm starting to study it...seriously. Not the best at taking tests.

I just walked right in my recruiters office and said I wanted to join. He asked me some qualifying questions and said I was qualified to join (no kids, etc.), we then scheduled a MEPs visit to take the ASVAB. I didn't study at all and ended up with a 90. It was cake. So then we scheduled my MEPs physical, I went there, got through everything alright, then did the Oath of Enlistment. I'm now in the DEP, a couple months later I got my job contract, signed that and now I'm just waiting to go to BMT.
Overall the entire process has been awesome

Same situation as me except I studied and got 74.
You smart ass.
edit: processing for Air Force was very easy btw. At the Oath the speaker congratulated us because only 7% he said make it threw the whole processing without something going wrong.

Yeah, I am a bit concerned about the math too. I haven't done any math other than stat since HS. It's been awhile.

I went to the Air Force site and signed up to talk to a recruiter nearby. I had no clue where they were in my city, so that was my best bet. They contacted me the next day and told me to come in and talk to them. If you know where they are, go in and talk to them personally. As far as the ASVAB goes it's pretty easy, I didn't study at all and I got a 76. Usually they give you a practice test to see how you might score. I forget what it was, but I took it in the recruiters office. I got a 95 on that one, and he was thoroughly impressed, apparently some people were able to get a 14 on that test. Anyways I'd recommend getting an ASVAB study guide, I didn't do it but honestly it doesn't hurt and if you score higher you can a bigger selection of jobs to choose from. It's not hard stuff, it's usually fairly basic. I scored highest on the electrical portion and I had no background in that stuff at all, in fact I knew nothing of it. So that just goes to show you how easy it is.

I sent him an email and asked when a good time to come in would be. He told me and I went in, asked him a few questions, then started filling out paperwork. I faxed it to him a couple days later and then the next day I went down to MEPS. A week and a half after that I took the PAST and passed. It took about a month and a half to get a contract for pararescue. I leave for basic training on June 16th.
Don't be nervous about taking the practice ASVAB. The results don't matter for anything. They just give you an idea of whether or not you should prepare more for the actual thing. If you don't do too great then you can find some more practice tests online. As for the real thing, the scores were all over the place. I got a 96, the kid I roomed with got like a 50 something, and a lot of people got in the 70's. Oh and about not doing anything like the ASVAB in a while, it has been 4 years since I graduated high school, and two years since I've taken any math or English classes. I did fine obviously.

Actually he just retired from the air force and forgot to ask. Posted here awhile back. He was stationed at McGuire AFB in NJ
http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showpo...postcount=5927
As for what he did was not sure. I did get to see the C17's and got a tour of it. They did the whole flag folding ect.. at the retirement event. He also got the award given to him that looked like a guy holding a book and a toolbox? They said it means a great deal. Great experience, specially seeing the c17 ****s huge.
Anyway my question was srs so you can shove your negs up your ass.

Already went down once when I signed up back in December. My time with the old guys was over pretty quick, but some people were in there for quite a while. Not sure what they were doing.. They were two very old dudes though. The one I got had to use wicked thick glasses AND a magnifying glass to read my paperwork and he could still barely read it. He had to use a cane to walk too. I think they were there when the building was built so they just kept them around haha.

I think they were there when the building was built so they just kept them around haha.

i'll never forget that part.
i remember standing in line in our boxers and with the corner of my eye i saw a set of tits. it freaked me out so i turned my head for further examination. it was this huge bodybuilder guy with the worst case of gyno ever. he seriously had tits. probably a decent B or small C.
