30lbs 6 weeks.
OK I know everyone says you should only lose 1 to 2 lbs per week but. I am 5'8 about 205 I have alot of weight to lose. would it be terrible to lose 5lbs a week? I know there would be some muscle loss but at 20+% body fat I am sure I will be losing much much more fat than muscle if I am working out and keeping my protein intake up.

there's very little chance you'd pull it off, you could lose 10lbs the first week in water weight alone if you've never done any sort of exercise/diet routine prior, losing 5lbs of REAL weight per week and then repeating that for several weeks is downright dangerous and likely impossible unless you were 400+

Even with the most dangerous chemical "help" that would be really hard if not impossible to do. And, you could really make yourself unhealthy. Why such a rush?

I agree that you can aim for higher than 1pd/week but I don't think it's reasonable. Just cut calories pretty low, but so that you have energy, and start cutting.

People can say all they want. When I joined my gym the personal trainer told me there was NO way I could lose more then 2 lbs per week. I called her on it, last time I dieted, jogged and my job was very active I lost 75 lbs in 3 months and after my physical was deemed PERFECTLY healthy, even better then I was obviously with the extra weight. Every body is different, everyone has different metabolize rates, and water weight.
Don't believe me I have family and all my friends to prove it. Now, friends of mine did the same thing I did and didn't have such dramatic results, but they still lost over 2 lbs a week!

Well if you're a wrestler and have a deadline then yes you can do it, I've gone from 235lb's down to 215 in little under 2 weeks, but it was the most painfull and sucky thing to do. After which I bounced to 257lb's. So if you got time take it slow.

You must of been very fat then because losing 6 lb a week for 13 weeks is extremely difficult to do unless you are putting 5 to 7 hours a day of weight/cardio training. I've lost almost 30 in a month but I'm sure the first 10 or so was water/excess weight and then other 20 was 5 lb a week. But at the time I was 80lb heavier then I am now.
So is it possible? Yes, but you better know what you are doing or you will lose major muscle and your skin will look like total crap. Then after losing all that weight, you are going to complain about the skin and how it isn't fair.

It's almost possible... I mean when I was first trying to lose weight I was 236, I dropped 30lbs in 2 months. 3.75 lbs per week. You most likely won't pull of 30lbs in 6 weeks, but if it happens sit happens I wouldn't suggest eating to lose 5lbs a week.. but if you do enough cardio + weight training, and just eat to lose 1-2lbs a week then all the power to ya.

As many have said, the initial drop can be severe and impressive... I know I dropped 20 lbs in 6 weeks when I started this past April. But it slowed down afterwards. I probably had a lot of water weight, who knows?
Just hit it hard, and maybe you will get lucky. But just don't starve yourself or deprive yourself of the vitamins you need to live. Eat clean and below your maintenance (not TOO low though), and do your cardio/weight training... and you should see great results.
Let your body respond naturally, and you could get lucky and lose that first 20 or so lbs quick. But you can't really count on it or force it.

I've lost 5.6 lbs in the last 7 days. According to my BF measurements, that's roughly 3/5 fat and 2/5 LBM. Some amount of the LBM lost is water weight, but some of it is certainly muscle mass.
If I lose a significant amount of LBM next week, I plan to increase my daily caloric intake to compensate.

Edited for clarity.

No, I'm not a doctor; it's a Beatles reference. You'd be surprised how many people don't get that...
But perhaps I should have phrased that statement differently; please allow me to clarify:
I go to the gym to get stronger and leaner. Therefore, losing muscle mass is counterproductive. Overtraining and/or undereating just to see the number on the scale go down faster is plain stupid if a significant portion of my weight loss is from LBM.

LOL Not FAT, fat. I was 210 and I'm pretty tall, but if I were 5'3 I'm sure I'd be real big as I'm sure you meant. My job was VERY active, after our winter weight was put on almost everyone lost it in the first few months of starting back work, they didn't even change their eating habits. Mind you it wasn't 75 lbs. More like 20-40.
I worked almost 12 hour days of almost non-stop activity and lifting and in the summer constant sweating. Then when I got home I'd go jogging for almost 2 hours. Also, I lived off of cucumbers, salad and chicken and that was it! Oh and LOTS of water. So it can be done, hard as hell, YES, but can be done. Good luck

No no. When I lost a dramatic amount of weight my skin stayed tight and NO stretch marks!!! I wasn't obese, but I was over 200, and to go from that to 135 is a huge difference. I was only THAT big for a year and a 1/2. I guess it depends how long a person has been on the bigger side.

I would rather risks the effects of losing weight to fast than to continue to be overweight.
I have witnessed 30lb and more in 6 weeks in someone that size before.

OP, why the rush?
You should have been thinking about this kind of thing back in February. As it is, I believe you will have a very difficult time with your plan, and since you're making it so hard on yourself, not only will you not get the results you want, but you'll probably get frustrated, quit exercising altogether, and eat yourself 15-20 pounds heavier.

I heard meth is a pretty good weight-loss tool.
Y'know, you'll get the same spiel every time. Nobody really cares about your unique circumstance, these are the rules people will give you every time you ask about fat loss:
- 500-1000 calorie deficit daily
- Lift weights to maintain LBM
- Make sure you've got a good balance of macro nutrients (40/40/20 Carb/Protein/Fat is widely accepted)
- You'll lose a pound a week.
That's it.
But maybe you're special. Maybe you've got a unique body that can handle this kind of weight loss, tighten the skin, and hold onto the lean body mass and you'll be looking great in whatever tiny time frame you have in mind.
Then again, maybe your body, like pretty much EVERYONE ELSE'S, follows the same rules:
- 500-1000 calorie deficit daily
- Lift weights to maintain LBM
- Make sure you've got a good balance of macro nutrients (40/40/20 Carb/Protein/Fat is widely accepted)
- You'll lose a pound a week.
So, the answer is "no." Based on what we know about you and your particular metabolism, you cannot hit your weight loss goal in your desired time frame.

a very good friend of mine wanted to be a cop, but he was really overweight. I don't remember what he weighed but i know he lost 60lbs in a very short amount of time. He also had to allow himself time to regain his strength to pass the physical portion of the test. (obstacle courses and 10 pull ups, from what i remember)
His unhealthy routine was:
600 calories a day max
no sugar, alcohol, or caffine
cardio twice a day for 45 minutes
My friend wasted away before our eyes, but he reached his goals and became a cop. He has gained every bit of it back now. He looked really weird skinny.

Severely overweight people can lose as much as 10% of their total body weight per week. It's different once you start to approach the other end of the spectrum.

Buddy of mine lost 36 lb in 6 weeks. Probably not normal. That was on p90x.
Wonder how much of it was muscle.

If you workout consistantly and eat very strictly you could do it. My boss got a lady to loose 25lb in 4-1/2 weeks for her wedding. She worked out 4-5 times a week and ate perfect.

I'm confused as why he would drop the caffine? IMO caffeine would be a benefit in many ways on an extreme cut such as that.
