Mum to be and confuse,Please Help.

Hi,

I really need your help, I just found out I am 4 weeks pregnant and although around here i was told it's ok to keep lifting weights without going mental, the Doctor said a big NO NO.Here In Ireland i have to wait 3 month to make my pregnancy official, as a miscarriage might happen, so can be very open about my pregnancy.

For the past 3 weeks I have been doing this work routine

http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/12_w...ner_main.htm#1

And I have done a nice progress so far and i find it very easy going.

My question here is can i still keep doing this work out for the next 3 Months, is squats, lunges, leg presses safe enough??I normally do squats and lunges in the smith machine as i feel nice support.
When will i have to stop doing lunges, leg presses and squats?? what exercises can i do instead??

Thanking in advance.

With a few adjustments, it is safe for you to weight train throughout your pregnancy. Here are a few good links that may help keep you from fearing it:

Please pardon my snarky attitude towards your medical doctor, however:

Tell your doctor that the Earth is no longer flat. A lot of assumptions have been disproven since he/she graduated medical school, it might help them to have read something since then.

If your doctor says that formula will be better for your baby than breastmilk, find another doctor.

PS - congratulations

Don't worry.... remember Sonia O'Sullivan? ok not a weightlifter but she trained throughout her pregnancy....
Remember Ireland is the place where only 15 years ago we had a vote on the right of women to travel.... (I'm Irish too)
10 years ago I was asked why I wanted to do something like geology in college... would I not prefer to do something more suitable to a woman like nursing or primary school teaching...
... also remember most GPs can't diagnose their way out a of wet paper bag and know very little about anything other than a cold (lots of bad experiences) and heaven forbid a woman that might want to do something more sporty than take a walk (which of course we should as long as we have all the housework done and dinner in the oven first)....
Best advice is ... talk to someone who is involved in sports medicine if possible, or find a more sympathetic gynae (VHI should have some information)... and there is plenty of good information on this website and lots of us (including me) have had babies (last october and he is beautiful) and trained sensibly.... I am temporarily based in southern Africa and here there is even a magazine (Fit Pregnancy) devoted to fitness during pregnancy.... there is even a website if you google it... there is also a US version....
