Everytime I went low carb that first week I would lose about 3-4 lbs but feel about 5-6lbs leaner. Waist would sink in tremendously just like you are seeing.
I am trying to catch up here, so sorry for asking, but you are trying to bulk with this anabolic diet approach which uses mostly low carb days with select carb up days?
yes i am trying to slowly gain some weight, but stay lean bc im stronger and more explosive when im lean. the bulk should work because i am going to go with 2 carb up days and i am eating alot even without carbs, the fats make it easy to get the cals in

This set-up looks great, Mark. Can't wait to follow along. I have a question about the deadlift program. How do you determine what is a reasonable goal? Obviously something outrageous isn't going to work, but I'm guessing one would want to begin with a conservative approximation and continue through trial and error?
lol. thanks matt.
you're right, you just have to go by feel. im not trying to bust my balls here and try to hit a max that is questionable. i think that 30lbs in 10 weeks is a reasonable goal and hopefully i will be able to handle the final single comfortably. when i get to the competiton is where i will be going all out, this is just designed to make sure i get through the program

haha, thanks man. ive never done a no carb diet before, so it will be interesting. i do feel that i have always done fine without my carbs and respond well to added fats in my diet. im looking bigger right now than i was before and i am leaner which is weird.
a diet with more meat and variety of protein sources is another plus with this diet which i think i will benefit from
did you enjoy your run with the low carb diet?

I really enjoyed AD and am looking to get back at it again this summer for a bit. Sort of following the principles right now, just not too strict.
After 5-7 days or so on AD you really won't be hungry for any carbs/sugar anyway. It's that day 3-5 stretch that's key. Definitely keen to see where this diet takes ya in addition to the lifts. shred it up man!
well if you did it i know it works cause you stay real nice and lean.
ill make it man, ive got a few recipes up my sleeve and ive got some low sugar (3 carb) pb to hold me down when i need a snack

Still on it! Trying to get to 135ish or lower if I can keep my strength when I'm that low. Only problem I have is... I live in Louisiana, lol. Too much good food that I can't have!

Your routine is quite interesting, the template itself looks simple, but reading the thought process behind it, makes it more complex, but it is all relative IMO and you clearly know what you want, so it looks good for your goals.
As for losing weight, do you feel it is mostly due to cutting back on carb intake? I know you mentioned you felt some was water weight, but only 3lb. loss and you're seeing striations...? Were you nearly this lean before the weight loss?
IIRC, you've mentioned you don't run as well on higher carb diets (I know how you feel), even though you've also said it's quite hard for you to keep weight on, I would have believed you to have taken to carbs better just by reading the initial perceptions on your beginnings into bodybuilding/powerlifting.
Just because it's the best open field tackle I've ever seen. He picks him up while he (the tackler) was in mid-air.
next planned meet is in october. hope to be ready to roll by then. my goal is at least 1300 raw.
HERE is the man for big hits, LSU's own laron landry (i know az will approve)
the second play in the second vid was the hardest nastiest hit ive ever seen in person. knocked the dude unconcious and gave him a concussion. you could hear it from the stands and LSU's field is f*cking huge, 92k+

HUNGRY! lol Just grinding out this contest prep for a few more months...having trouble following most of my subscriptions....every time I get on I find myself in the meals eating now thread....drooling...probably not too healthy haha

the weekend structure is what's great about AD. and it's pretty simple diet to follow through with.
based on your current mass and strength, I think AD is going to treat you very well. knowing your workout ethics, i'm expecting some epicness here!
not sure if I caught this earlier in the thread, but how long are you planning on staying on AD? for the summer?
almost forgot- if it's possible you may want to position your more difficult lifting sessions earlier in the week so you can take advantage from the weekend carb up. doesn't always work for everyone, but from my experience and reading up on others- this seemed legit.
So my session today was horrible. I felt sick all day, my stomach is giving me fits all day and i think its because of a lack of fiber. So i am going out today to buy some psyllium husk.
HOWEVA, what was the worst part about it is my gym, LA f*cking Fitness. Its the fitness version of hell. The music sucks, the trainers are all bordering on obese or actually obese (serious) and retarded (teaching worst form ever), the equipment is ridiculously poor, and the workout environment is about as cool as a baby shower.
I cant take it anymore, i honestly think if i had to do a simulated meet i would lose 100+ lbs off my total in that gym.
I am leaving and going to try the warehouse gym south of houston. The drive will suck but at least the equipment is good and it wont be playing "once, twice, three times a lady" and rod stewart when i workout.
F*CK LA Fitness
ON a not so negative note, work is going great, much better than expected.

Why do you think the old stories tell of men who set out on great journeys to impress the gods? Because trying to impress people just isn't worth the time and effort.

i have been feeling great the entire time, and loading up on veggies.
I feel better, the only problem this am was IMMEDIATELY after i drank a protein shake. I dont think my body can handle whey anymore. I am mildly lactose intolerant and i think the issue is getting worse. I am trying to completley get off of using any whey at all.

Give me your actual meal plan over the last 3 days, so I can analyze it. Including water and supps.

well its pretty similar every day
meal one (problem area imo) 2 scoops whey with 2.5 servings olive oil with 3 fish oil caps
meal two 12oz 80/20 ground beef with green beans
meal 3 6 oz ground beef with small chicken breast and 2 scoops low sugar pb + green beans
meal 4 5 eggs and one serving olive oil + 3 fish oil caps
meal 5 12 oz steak
meal 6 small protein with 2 scoops pb + 3 fish oil caps
equivalent of 6 20 oz bottles of water per day
EDIT: looking straight monstrous in that avi man, gaddamn. Massive improvements in all of your former "weakpoints". Looking great. You look like you have a similar frame as me except about 20 percent bigger lol and leaner

too much niacin, b6 both cause issues
extremely low on vitimin A causes stomach issues, vit c and fiber.
Too much or too little of certain vitamins and minerals cause poor protein absorbtion leading to bloating, cramps and other issues.
I doubt that the whey is the main culprit in your diet. Vit A is probably your culprit. I say ease back to 1.3 grms per lb bw (Pro) and balance out your fats better. You are WAY to high on satty fats too get 96/4 beef and use chicken and fish also to keep fats down. The body doesn't use cholestrol from outside the body only the cholesterol made in its own liver.
BTW a multi is not gonna fix this issue. Consider this issue a flare from your body.
Thanks man, I have been working hard and experimenting in the kitchen. I hope that I can have my best gains this year. One more year and maybe I can be a contender. We are in this together man, I am with ya.

Well at least you said work is going well and you found a new gym too, so it looks like things overall are going decently for you Mark which great. It would be nice to get some more free time, but I'm sure it'll eventually work itself out.
I've always wanted to open up an athlete/powerlifter gym, the kind that doesn't really have all the fru-fru(sp?) crap that a lot of chain gyms have. Stuff like basic staples of weight lifting, dumbbells, bb's plates, some machines, but mostly benches, racks & platforms, w/pullup/dip bars, chains, resistance bands, med balls, logs, sledges, tires etc. Only problem is you'd have to go to a market which you knew wanted this and didn't already have it. I feel a place like Dallas/Houston, Miami, LA, NY would places a gym like that would excel, because there are so many athletes in those areas.

I've thought about this as well, and concluded that if I ever did anything like that it would be because I have money, and the gym would simply be for me and friends who wanted a serious place to train. Any additional members would just be a bonus. I would have to do it for run rather than run it as a business.
taking a hiatus from posting updates and probably from posting in the forum in general for a while. i have a lot going on in other areas in my life and im just not that motivated to post here for the meantime.
thanks to all of those who have supported me thus far, and good luck to all of you. im sure ill pop into your journals heree and there.

Totally understand. You sound busy as hell. Just give us some monthly updates when you hit some new numbers.
Take care.
My sentiment as well. Whenever life picks up, this forum is the first to go. Maybe it's just me, but it seems like the journal section has declined over the last year or so. I just don't see as much enthusiasm and excitement over training on this forum as I used to. Mark's journal has always been one of the good ones.
Keep in touch man. I know you'll do great at anything you take on.
