Well, First big night out on the town as a non-drinker, I had a coke to start off with, then a water. Coke cost about $3, Water cost nothing. Stayed for most of the night and had a great time. When everyone else is drunk i don't need to worry about my own inhibitions, everybody else has lost there's so i can just join in, I dont need alcohol any more.
Also, driving home was a lot cheaper then a taxi.

ya know, my forum rep has never been a big deal, but it was always in the green and slowly rising. and then a group of buddies from the misc. forum decided to all negative rep me for this post as well as send me some really rude A-hole comments, and that is the lone reason I have a red rep bar. It made me remember how many people are out there who will hate and talk trash to you just because you are doing something more constructive with your life than they are with theirs. It is a shame, but it also makes me remember why I quit hanging out with those types of people in the first place. I now surround myself with positive people with like-minded goals of future success and well-being. To all the kids who talked trash to me for this post, I hope you learn to feel more comfortable in your own skin, and realize that you could be heading down a dangerous path. And to anybody who has received criticism for their positive life choices, let it be known that people usually only hate on you when they are jealous, or when you have something that they want. These people criticize, where most people compliment. Forget these people; for they have nothing to offer you, and all you have to do is continue on your own uphill journey and trudge over the worthless ones along the way. Look at Nick Edge.. some people hated on him for his choices and values, and look where he is now. The guy has an extremely bright future ahead of him and should be very proud, as I know he is, although he's still a humble human being. It's guys like him and others I have met along the way that remind me why I choose to continue my current lifestyle, and live every day to the best of my ability. And to all the like minded people out there... KEEP IT UP, LIVE YOUR LIFE, STAY POSITIVE, HAVE SOME FAITH.... AND DO WORK IN THE GYM!!

First off, thanks for the kind words Diesel. Here's how I look at it..We are all in charge of our own decisions..Our life is our life right?..No matter what anybody else says, we ultimately choose how we want to live it. Some go down that path and some go down the other path. I went down that other path and it took me for everything I had..I was at what you call "Rock bottom"..I won't go into details, but I knew I had some decisions to make, so I did and decided to turn around and head down that other path which was a life full of positivity. I live a completely different lifestyle now than what I used to, in fact it was the complete opposite of what I am living now. I'm very thankful to have the things I do, when it all comes down to it..decisions are what land you where you currently are, make the right ones and you'll be alright.
Thanks again Diesel.

Hi there. I just joined the site a few days ago. I am in the Navy, have been for about a year and a half now. I am really just looking to meet some people who are into fitness and don't waste their lives with drugs and alcohol. My friend selection in the category is severely lacking right now.

yeah this has helped me, i'm not exactly straight edge, but straight-edge principles fall in line with my spirituality (christ) very closely, bodybuilding has pretty much taken away any part of me that wanted to drink or party with the ppl i used to hang with, alot of guys at my gym pop pro-hormone pills (w/ no pct in mind for later), workout for about 30 mins and then get hammered in the same day, some try to squeeze in a blunt or two in there as well. But for me that just won't cut it. NICKEDGE ur a great inspiration man! as well as the rest of you guys! glad to know i'm not doing this alone

I'm straight edge...
I used to drink (only on weekends, but usually pretty heavily). It took me *almost* getting arrested for fighting at a bar one night for me to really realize what I was doing to myself. From that night on I made a commitment to myself to never drink again. That was December 19th, 2008. It's only been a little over 5 months (not a huge milestone, but hey...), however I feel better than I ever have before. My workouts are better, and my diet is more consistant and healthier.
I've never touched cigarettes or drugs of any kind in my life, and never plan to.
I truly love bodybuilding/being healthy, and that's all I need to keep me focused!
Thanks, Nick Edge, for being a constant motivation for me. You are really an inspiration!

very new to bodybuilding here, almost a year. Always drank soda, and tons of junk food. Its hard when you grew up eating that stuff. I have only had soda once in about 8 months, and when the last time I did it made me feel so sick. Its tough when friends are always going to fast food places or having tons of soda or beer, and they try to make you feel bad cause your not eating it.
I know its not beer or drugs, but its the same idea.

I used to claim straight edge and wear "straight edge" shirts and think I was tough **** at shows. I realized I don't need to claim "straight-edge" and use a sellout term to define my morals and who I am. I don't drink, I don't smoke, and I don't use any drugs. I don't need the word "straight-edge" to define me. It has become more of a stereotype and "click" type thing instead of a lifestyle like it was meant to be. You see kids now at shows with "x's" on their hands walking around acting all tough saying, "I'm straight edge, that means I am better than you." Then a month later you will see the same kid smoking a cigarette. Give me a break. It has turned into a sell out stereotype. But hey, to each their own. I respect the morals of the term "straight-edge", but will not go by that title or stereotype. I am me, I have my morals, I stick to them.

Straight edge, clean, all natural, what ever people call it, all I know is I am it. Not a drinker, I like to remember whatever fun I had. Never smoked anything, not even a cigarette. When I was in high school, I played the big Varsity sports and all my friends would party it up the entire weekend after a game. Come back hung over, eyes all red. In all honesty, I often questioned my own decision not to partake. Girls, drugs, fun... but then I'd look at many of my own family members whom I knew had or were doing drugs. Not for me. I found weightlifting and eventually bodybuilding, and never looked back after that. The more I train, the more I feel I need to protect my body and be ultra conscious of what goes into it. I personally don't have a problem with steroid users, to each his own. I just hate seeing the results of abuse, ie. Chris Benoit. I don't advertise that I'm straight edge, and when people say I have to be on steroids, I just smile and shake my head- take it as a great compliment, whatever. In the end, the lifestyle we live is just for ourselves.

contradicting much?
There is posers for everything in the world, seriously. Anything that is cool in anyway will have it's fare share of posers and wannabe's that's just how the world works and if you choose to not do something because of that well...I guess that's you're own decision but you should never let others dictate who you are, what you do or in this case what you believe in/call yourself.

Ive drunken before, ive smoked weed before, i did not like either, and ive found what they can do to ones body, alcohol is worse than drugs i dont get why it's legal, but i am also only 16 and i just dont want to ever do any drugs or drink, maybe ill enjoy a beer or two when im older, but im gonna wait till when im older to find out. In college i dont see myself as a partier its just a waste of time, i want to do well, become either a pharmacist or a chemist and be sucessful and happy...i have a good amount of friends, sure ive lost some, but it's high school and people change, but there are kids who dont smoke or drink and they are my TRUE friends, i can talk with them about anything and we have the same morals, and im even getting a few into bodybuilding with me, i tell them how great it makes me feel since it's gotten me from 100lbs bone man who was depressed to 146lbs they noticed the gains and the happiness it's brought me, which weed or alcohol doesnt do, it's just the "easy way out"
Weight lifting is my Anti Drug.

Very good post. I'm not completely straight edge myself, but your last sentence was perfect and you seem to have the right mind-set.

Drink, drugs... are no longer a part of my thought process!!
I resent who I used to be for the amount of years he wasted intoxicated & set in a mindless cycle.
Now I eat clean & unlike the people around me I don't rain on anyone's parade!
Now I am making up for lost time & I am encouraging the people in my life to do the same!
Respect to all regardless of choice & rage on!!

No artificial colours, flavours or preservatives except what comes with the food I eat :-D
I've been drug-free since the time I began, many moons ago.
I use to drink like a fish (alcohol that is) until my body let me know it didn't like what I was doing to it. At that time I was drinking Absinthe and Chartreuse. No surprises, it did bad stuff to the insides. I've been alcohol free for about 2 years now. Next challenge is caffeine free. I started last Friday.

NO roids here!
Great thread Nick. I've not drank in well over a year, and when I used to it would only be wine with a meal or a beer with my friends. Never used drugs, because I value my health and my body more than a temporary high. I know so many people who take pro hormones or steroids because they think they need that **** to grow. 'stop being a bitch and try actually working out in the gym, then you might see some results' is what I say. Fine, if you want to be the worlds best pro bodybuilder then you need to take roids just to keep up with the other guys. I think that's a shame, and is bad for the sports rep. I mean how can u call it a legit sport when ALL the top guys openly take roids, and the organisation doesnt test for them. But I guess thats what bodybuildings about? being a freak, at least to some people anyway. I just lift because I love it, and I want to be in good shape. I dont want to be a 300 pound scientificaly created monster, I just want to be the best shape I can possibly be naturally, and to have a clear concience and be proud that I did it all by myslef

Real Talk! if my poor genetic dont take a rest on me, why should I?
since the day I discovered what I spend in one single night in alcohol and other stuffs could cover my supplement expenses for an entire month, I quit the "dudes night out thing".

Does it harm you or others or have the potential to harm yourself or others? I always follow that general rule. Caffeine is a drug, but it's safe and even promotes health. Protein is not a drug.

What up Nick, right there with you man.. trying to become one of the largest drug-free bodybuilders. I'm a supplement and wellness store owner and every day i have at lease three people ask me do i do steroids or do i sell them.,, and that makes me so damn mad that's what the public automaticlly think about bodybuilders.
