Coming back from severe injury

I had a very severe eye injury and had surgery to save it about a month ago now. I will be having another surgery in 4 days...my question is...

I was a very serious lifter before my injury, and since then I have lost nearly 12lbs which is very dissapointing for me. After my next surgery I will be able to get back in the gym and lift light, but what sort of things would be good to start to get my strength back without going too heavy, I know its hard but any ideas?

Kind of embarassed and frustrated to go back and lift 50%-70% lighter after all these months of hard work.

I to had a bad injury, I as was training for my first 40 and older comp. In 04' i had a motorcycle accident( i was hit). I was in the best shape of my life at the time. That was 0n 9-01-04. Since ive had 18 differnet hospital stays and 50t procedures. The last being in 10-08. I have permament damage in my right arm. I cant turn my palm up at all. No supination or pronation. I have also lost 2 inches of bone in my right femur. But alittle over a month ago i hit the gym and am starting to have some gains. Icant do some things i could before. But thats ok. But what i really wanted to say is your muscle memory is going to take over and you'll be back to lifting what you where before soon. Even after 4 yrs, i can't beleive the gains ive had in just over a month,. Now i always prided myself on training hard. So go in there and train your ass off brother and you'll be right back where you we're. Good Luck.

You will be fine, get past the mental/health part and you will be back to normal and in a new present.

One year plus ago I lost (ripped off) index/middle finger in a industrial accident that left me with severe nerve/tendon damage to my left hand/arm. I was in the middle of weight training/transformation and got depressed/gave up.

Eight months ago I "snapped out" and I am lifting, and have lost 92lbs and half way to my goal....

I am not quitting this time if you rip my legs off.......get to doing it.

Thumbs up

A lot of guys have had severe injuries before; they're still doing it. I had a heart seizure when I was 33, lost pretty much everything, then got back into it a year or so later. While I'm nowhere near stage presentation now (nor am I interested in stepping onstage, although I have all the respect in the world for those who do) I managed to get back to what I was and then some.

OP, just keep up your nutrition, eat clean, and do what you can. If you have to start out light at the beginning, then do so. Your body will remember, and your consistency and perseverance will pay off in the long run. Best of luck and health to you!
