100 Calorie Packs
So I probably have the biggest sweet tooth in the world, but I'm trying hard to eat right. I am for the most part, but when I need something sweet, I reach for one of the millions of varieties of 100 calorie packs they have these days (my weakness). My question is, are they terrible for you? They have to be better than reaching for regular cookies and sweets, I would imagine. And it's not like I eat 9384534 at once. Maybe one a day to satisfy my cravings. Thoughts?

they could be worse but, I would try to cut them down to less than one a day. They only have 100 calories and 2-3 grams of fat which is great but I would try to cut down on them still, quick protein would be better. Its great it satisfys your sweet tooth, could be worse. Still maybe one every 2 days, you dont want to come to depend on them. There are snacks out there that are better for you with more protein and fiber.

I don't see anything wrong with one per day, provided it fits into your caloric goals for the day. Perhaps you could switch it up a bit and try other things too though.
You could try a diet soda, sugar free gum, yerba mate or green tea with stevia, some sugar free jello, crystal light, sugar free pudding, protein shake, etc.
And don't forget to treat yourself with the real thing every once in a while too. Instead of eating 100 calorie pack oreos every day, why not have a couple of Oreos once a week?

I've started making my own ice-cream, with cottage cheese, an egg, and whey powder. It's pretty good, fits in my diet plans and gives me something sweet to eat. Another plus is that it takes about ten minutes out of the freezer to thaw enough to eat, so I can't impulse snack on it.

you have to watch the one kinds - oreos, nutter butters, doritos, etc. I'm not sure the name brand, but they all still have the same ingredients as regular size - partially hydrogenated oil and high fructose corn syrup.
Trader joes names a 100 calorie pack of oat meal chocolate chip cookies. very yummy.

I have a weakness for those 100 cal packs, too. I usually have one a day. Sure, they are not the best thing for you, but as far as portion control goes, you can't beat 'em. Sometimes, you just gotta have something "naughty" with sugar in it.....as long as you really DO stop at one bag, I can't imagine it being truly horrible. I know that if I deprive myself of sweets for too long, I will get resentful and nothing can sabotage a well-intentioned diet faster than a feeling of deprivation. So what-the-hay.....I eat 'em.
I recently tried the little Hostage cupcake 100 cal pack. They're SO cute! After looking at the size of them, I thought that NO WAY would just one pack be satisfying....but it was. Just "hits the spot" when only some decadent mini-cupcakes will do! Self-control & "all things in moderation" go a LONG way when dealing with sweet treats.

I used to have the biggest sweet tooth, having to have something EVERY day to keep my cravigns at bay. I found that once I decided that was adding to my "fat" problem, and not adding to my new body, I replaced them with fruit and veggies. It's amazing how little you miss things if you just stop eatign them for a few days.
I think that you should not eat them at all during the week. and like the other poster said, jsut eat a couple (not a whole bag) of Oreo's with your cheat meal once a week. Just remember, this is only a suggestion. You keep on eating as many oreos every day as you think help you to your goal.

Sweet tooth
I agree with cristina78. I try to stay away from the processed stuff, the chemicals make you crave. I look at what foods I am consuming not just the calories. When I get a sweet tooth I have a piece of protein bar ( I slice them into bite size pieces). Also, the ice cream from cottage cheese sounds very creative and yummy. Eating the same old stuff does get old, it's great when you can be creative and switch it up a bit.

100g cottage cheese
28g whey powder (strong flavours are best)
1 egg
150ml cold water
optional: sweetener, extra flavours, fruit
1/2 tsp or less Xanthan gum.
Dissolve the whey in the cold water, blend the egg and cottage cheese together, then add the whey solution and any extra fruit or sweetener. Blend for around 30 seconds.
Very slowly sprinkle on the Xanthan gum (it's a thickener), then blend for 60 seconds.
Pour into mounds and freeze.
This makes quite a big batch, so I normally divide it into four or six containers.
If you are very handy in the kitchen, you can separate the egg at the beginning, whisk the white till it's stiff, and mix that in at the end for a slightly lighter texture, but there's very little in it.
When it's frozen, you need to let it thaw for around 10-15 minutes before eating.

This might be a dumb question, but do you cook this before you freeze it?

No, you use raw eggs, just make sure you get good organic ones. Don't use duck eggs, as ducks sometimes lay eggs in dirty places.
I've found that if you separate the egg and whisk the white till stiff, then mix it with the whey/cottage cheese mix, you don't need the xanthan gum, which can be difficult to get. Stewed rhubarb and ginger makes a wonderful ice-cream.

I also have a sweet tooth, and I make fruit smoothies. I pile like 2 cups of frozen strawberries (or mixed frozen fruit..whatever you have/want) in a blender with 4 packets of splenda (and a little water to smooth it out). The consistency is great - it's thick so you can't suck it down, and it's smooth so it's a treat. The splenda brings out the natural sweetness of the strawberries, it's great! For like 80 calories it's fabulous!

I printed this out and will try it this week. It sounds good! I have been making something similar using muscle milk lite powder, whey protein and xanthan gum.

This sounds wonderful! To crunch my cravings, I chop up an apple, sprinkle with a bit of cinnamon, lemon juice, and zap it in the microwave for a bit. It ends up being like the fruit part of an apple pie, or chunky applesauce.

I would be careful with anything that has high fructose corn syrup in it... and also look at the ingredients.. what kind of flour???? (white being the worst) Also how much sugar does it have??? you cant just look at fat and calories... they arent the biggest of your concerns... because it isnt just calories in and calories out.. its the nutrients in the food.
Yes, once in a while is fine. but try to slowly cut it out of your diet.
