swimming and body building?
ive been workout out for about 18 months now and have seen some great gains but recently I have decided to join the swimming team. What good exercises are there for swimming, supplements to take for endurance in swimming, and or any training equipment that will help me out.
Also how should my workout program be scheduled around swim training. i still would like to do both and running too.
Thank you very much any post will be helpful

Well, youre not gonna get huge from swimming, but you will get cut as hell. My ex was a state champ swimmer in high school. She had a strong ass core and strong shoulders. My advice is to work on those two the most.

iono about supplements for swimming. u guys get dehydrated so quickly and cramps are easier in water that i wouldnt recommend creatine or anything. maybe protein for muscle growth after swimming and stuff.
and as far as swimming goes, ur coach should have a lifting routine. but really, i knew this guy who swam like 3 hours a day and he was so jacked it was ridiculous. of course he also broke 4 pacific records in high school.

Swimming is the best exercise there is IMO. I used to do swim team.
Just make sure to eat much more if you want to bulk up! That stuff burns hella calories (more than running, biking, basketball, etc)

from a swimmer, you really just got to swim alot ALOT. strong shoulders are important but try your best not to over work them in season by doing lifts. Lats are also very important. After a few weeks of swimming you'll see your lats getting much stronger. Your core/midsection should stay strong. Keep up with consistent ab work. Those are some major muscles for swimming; remember swimming will work every muscle. Be prepared to eat tons of carbs and really increase your caloric intake based on intensity(regardless, your going to be using a **** load of energy). good luck with swimming, keep us updated.

people always ask for specifics...generally the rule is: there is no secret.
protein powder is the only supplement that will help you (by retaining muscle)
swimming will get you in shape if you do it properly...you must be absolutely pushing yourself to the maximum then you will lose weight and build muscle. We swim for ~4 hours during the offseason and I lost 16 lbs in 2 weeks because while I ate 4,000 calories, it wasn't enough. I was shredded.
In terms of weights, as I said there is no secret. Deadlifts, Squats, Bench, Rows, Pullups, Incline B, Good Mornings, Military Press, Lunges. There ya go. The clean/snatch/jerk etc. arent as useful in swimming as they are on land because you dont need axial leg strength. regardless, just try for overall fitness and strength. that's it. generally i follow a 10, 8, 8, 5 routine with lots of big exercises and some isolation for my initial "size/fitness" phase, then move into a 5x5 for my "strength phase", then taper into "maintanence", then in season I do not lift (it's too tiiring and leads to injury)
