Hey all - I actually introduced myself a while ago, but had a different screen name then (dmarkowski88) and since I've started frequently lurking in and occasionally posting in the O35 again, I thought I'd say hi again.

Name's Dave, I'm 39, a dad, web developer and photographer and am totally addicted to this healthy lifestyle!

Thumbs up Hello from England

Hi I'm Alan from the UK, I'm feeling old at 41. i used to think getting old would happen to everyone else and not me! Anyhow to arrest this descent i am about to purchase some nice Ivanko kit and a couple of benches with a view to getting fitter, stronger and hopefully quite a lot more muscular too with help from the this forum

Thanks for the very informative for post no.1 Kimsuit.

Hello everyone. I am 37 years old. I weigh in at a mighty 175 lbs (down from 295 about 7 years ago) and stand 5'11. I don't really have a whole lot of muscle to my frame. When I was heavy I had big broad shoulders but never a lot on my arms. I do have a belly and would like to transform my upper body into something to be proud of.

I think a lot of what I have is genetics. My mom had a large belly and skinny arms.

If I post a picture of my current state would anyone be able to critique it?

Wow.

Excellent forum! It's all here.

I am 43, female and been back to the gym for about a year. I have reached my initial goal of getting out of the plus-size section and now I have stalled. The guy at my gym is going to get me started on a new ramped up routine, using more free weights (something I have never done). I am looking forward to all the tips and advice you all have to give.

One question.... I had been on prednisone for an extended period, and one of the side-effects is a serious loss in skin elasticity. Join that with my age and a fairly rapid (one year) weight loss and I have a lot of excess "flappage". Any advice on how to get the skin to bounce back or is surgery the only option?

I am concerned that if I drop any more sizes, it is just going to get worse and it is keeping me from really dedicating myself to working harder....

Another oldie

Hi, hope this forum is as it states earlier on and devoid of young guys talking crap.

Thought I'd come on board and gain as much info as possible. Hard to find a lot of definitive info for guys over 50. With older bodies I imagine what you do must differ slightly to what all the young guys do.

Went to my first gym at age 18. With huge time lapses been on and off to gyms ever since. Competed for the first time last year and have been bitten by the bug. It was always general fitness up till then, but with the extra work the results are better.

Next comp in September, and if that goes well will carry on each year till...........................

cheers.

Hi, My real name is Dana and I will be turning 41 in june (yeah I had to look that up)
I am a believer that you are as old as you feel, I don't feel a day over 40....... kidding aside.
I like the start of this post and read alot of the posings here and have to say it is nice to see there are real humans on here and not BOTS ( for those of you around in the 90's when the BOT's came out on yahoo chat you know what I mean).
I LOVE lifting weights and bodybuilding, I have been away from it WAYYYYY too long , over 8 years. A failed marriage and 3 surgeries later here I am again. I look forward to getting back to my old body again , but not the old lifestyle and diet. after 40 things change a lot in your body, but we have the science and technology of today to help us along and of course a plethera of resources like BODYSPACE that comes with TONS of experienced lifters and dieters.
I look forward to talking with some of you and learning more about dieting, Bodybuilding and supplements that work and don't work for us old bucks....
LOL ....... good luck to all.

Thumbs up Welcome back, my friiends, to the show that never ends

Hey all, I'm new, and after many years of life on the internet, I figured this would be the place tp put post #1- hopefully many more will follow. I'll be 5-0 (gasp) this year, but don't really feel it- except for being totally overweight and out of shape. I lifted as a teen, but quit once I hit college. My wife and I met when we were both in the Air Force, and by the time I got out, I was on the chunky chicken program. This past December I decided enough was enough, but didn't get serious until last month. What got me were a couple of M&F mags @our local warehouse club. The first had Bruce Lee on the cover, and the next had Arnold.

So, here I am with no definite weight loss goal ... I started out with the intent of dropping 80lbs until I read up a bit on Jay Cutler, who is roughly my size but only ~30lbs heavier. THAT is humbling. So, I'm not setting a weight loss #- I just want to get sufficiently ripped so that snookums drools. I think I can do it- so far I've hit the iron three weeks straight, six times per week. I know the ride is going to be bumpy, but its gonna be fun as well!

(*need a ninja smiley!)

Greetings

I'm from central Florida and I've been steadily lifting for a bit over 2 years now. I've never stuck with any program this long but I've turned the corner on that and I'm now convinced I will continue indefinitely. Currently, I'm 44 (45 in Sept.), 5'8", 198lbs, 19%BF. Over the next year, my goal is to lean out to 10%BF and continue to gain muscle. I was always the skinny kid and a very hard gainer - the genetics fairy was not kind. Over the last 6 months of so, I've gotten more serious and have more specific goals.

Hello All

I'm Ted, 42 and live just outside of Chicago. Five weeks ago my 19 year old talked me into going to the gym for the first time in over a decade and I'm hooked. Now I'm dragging him to the gym, I love it! I stumbled across this site researching nutrition and the resources on here are fantastic.

Howdy all!

Hey everyone!

I just started my effort to get back in shape and lose the fat. I've been reading a lot of the information here as well as getting my diet where it needs to be. Joined a gym and have been going there for 3 weeks now on a 4 day a week program. Not doing too bad!

Mike,

I was doing really well for about three months and then I fell off the wagon. Wow, it really sucks when all the hard work goes to crap! I've been out of the loop for about a month and I've also been eating like $hit. Now I have a whole month to make up which means I'm two months behind! All I'm trying to say is don't end up like me...keep it going brother! It is a great road to be traveling on...you know, the road to fitness where one feels and looks good!

James

A big welcome to all of you. The 35 and over is a great place for nutrition and exercise.
One word of advice though, stay away from the misc. section (not the over 35 misc, it's ok).

Smile Looking to get it back!

I'm still trying to find my way around on this site. Just turned 43. I used to compete 20-years ago. Did 2 shows. I would like to compete again! First thing I did was reduce my % down from 16% to 8%. Im 6'2 and weight 190lbs. Kinda skinny. I have to put on some lean muscle! Its hard for me to lift heavy do to some injuries and I try to work around them. Its so much harder(wife 2 young kids). Glad to be here.

Hi everyone! I have about 20 pounds to loose and I joined so I could try and figure out a lifting plan. There are so many out there and I am getting confused! Way too much to read about.

New(ish) and already addicted

Ive been lurking here for a bit, and used to lift many, many years ago. I recently made a major attitude and life shift, and the final thing to do was get back in the gym; which i (almost nervously) did last week. With the help of a great trainer, and very supportive people at the gym, ive been able to set some strong goals, and have the energy and motivation to stick to them. I forgot what an insane great feeling a good pump is after a morning with iron. Im already addicted. Just wanted to say hi and thanks to all who post; it helps the folks like me more than you know. Im working on returning the favor.

Well "HI All", I will be 52 in July, been lifting since the early 70's.
Was in the USMC power lifting Team in 79-80 (about 6 months) and did good there. Afterwards I continued lifting and got into Bodybuilding and did 2 shows in 89 as a novice and got first in Mr South Jersey and runner up in Mr Lower Bucks County. Then started to do bench competitions in the early 90's till an work accident and messed up my back. Left lifting behind me for almost 10 years and started again in 2002 but the back was still messed up. Found a good PT/Chiropractor and got back in shape.
Now I powerlift raw and equipped and have set some records for my age and weight class in the IPA federation.
It is hard to keep this up but after reading some of your stories it does give me motivation.
Any other Old time powerlifters out there?

Hey all, been looking around here for a little bit. Did crossfit at an affiliate for past 6-months and it really helped build a nice foundation that had deteriorated since I got out of the Army. Now starting to get back to more of a "body-building" routine. Looked at this site and T-Nation and decided on this one because it seems a bit more mature and focused on group support for getting more fit.
