Salt Intake
Hey Guys,
I've been worried about salt intake ever since I found out I have very high blood pressure.
I've been doing some more research into this area and I find that different countries (mainly the US and UK) have very different recommendations. The US recommends not ingesting more than 2.3 grams whereas in the UK it's 6 grams.
I live in Scotland now, and there aren't many low sodium/salt (and I realize that these two words are NOT interchangeable) dietary options at the supermarket. But when I was visiting my buddy in North Carolina I decided that for 2 weeks I would minimize my salt intake, I was probably having around 1.2-2 grams a day and the only processed food I had was a low salt pasta sauce 0.2g / 100g
After 2 weeks, I measured my blood pressure and it was below average! I'm sorry, but I can't remember the figures..
Either way, the point of this post was that I was hoping someone could clarify my salty confusion about recommended daily doses. I've heard that some people can be hyper sensitive too substances such as salt, perhaps I'm one of them.
