Because I don't know why* you'd get fat by doing certain things. I've been told many ways people get fat but not why. I'm looking for a reason not just "do this and you get fat" - that doesn't tell me anything. There's no reasoning to half the reasons ppl get fat that are thrown around the boards.

nothing makes you fat except eating more calories than you burn. Your diet could be twinkies only and you will lose weight if you eat less calories than you burn

This is what I thought, but I still don't understand why. For example: why are junk foods associated with getting people fat if let say for example you eat in moderation and keep it below your calorie intake. Would you then still gain fat? (if you'd have one bag of chips or a chocolate bar once a week).
Do people say junkie foods make you fat simply because the calories given are really high for what you eat? Thus if you are still hungry you'd have to eat something with substance but then would easily go above your calorie intake because the junkie foods pack lots of calories.

The missing piece of this story is discipline. Most people can't just eat one candy bar a week. And, you seem to be confusing overall health with bodyfat levels. If you eat junk food all the time, but stay within your calorie requirements, you wont get huge. But, you certainly will not be providing your body the proper nutrients it needs to sustain healthy living.

This week I decided to have a brownie with my lunch everyday. Each brownie has 170 calories. My lunch is ~650 calories and 50 grams of protien, just like it was last week. If anyone thinks this weeks lunch will make me any fatter than last weeks, they don't know what they're talking about.

Eating too much, with little exercise can make one fat over time. Also, having a colon that is clogged up with food and waste will make it so that you aren't processing food correctly, and make it easier for bodyfat to be stored than if you had a completely clean colon and stuffed a bunch of food in it that would be passed through the system with ease and not stored. You can learn this clean feeling from eating less and never stuffing the colon up with debris over months and months and months.
I just started running this year, and this is the year that I've been able to eat the most with the least worry about weight/fat gain. Also, my appetite has diminished a great deal.

Generally people who eat a lot of junk food do not stay under their calorie allowance.
Generally people who eat a lot of junk food do not work out much.
There is one thing you have to remember you can be "fat" without being over weight. This is why you have so many skinny fat college kids.
For example my college roomate is one fat a*s bastard, i mean a real fat*ass. Yet he is 5'9" and weighs 175. All he eats is junk food but not many calories. So basically what happens is he has no muslce...and I mean none and he just has gut fat. He is literally skin, bones, and fat which makes him look like a fata*s even though he's not heavy.
The main point is it is physiologicaly impossible for you to gain a ton of weight and fat if you are eating less calories than you burn. But how many people that eat a lot of junk food really eat less calories than they burn? Not many.
Eating "junk food" here and there will not automatically make you fat.

This is all very interesting. So what's this "fat content" stuff all about. For example, ya got cottage cheese and "low fat" cottage cheese or yogurts and "low fat" yogurts. It sounds like this is all bull**** but real nice **** to people who don't know ****.

theres less cals in something that has less fat, but yes, most people think fat will make them fat

Eating too many peanut butter & jelly Pop-tart sandwiches makes me gain a little chub. Mmm.

I can't tell, is this more joking at the OP's expense?
