Stomach Fat/toning

Hi everyone
i dont do weights (Yet), i am at the minute doing a diet called the bodytrim diet, which means i eat 6 protein meals a day, 2 of which i eat fibrous carbs with, the only exercise i d at the minute is walking, (however i am hoping to go back to doing kickboxing) and i drink 3 pints of water everyday, i have been doing this for 3 months and so far the diet is working as i have lost 21Lbs since starting it, my aim in the future is to start doing weights but not until i have reached my target weight of 190 Lbs.
My question is, can anybody tell me the best way of doing stomach toning exercises so i can turn the fat to muscle, i am not to bothered at present about a 6 pack, i just want a flat stomach, i have been told that sit ups and crunches are useless, any ideas????

also i do have a set of dumbells in the house which i want to start on but i dont know where to start, so does anybody have a dunbell routine they can give me (No Bench), i know all this is a lot to ask but i just need a bit of help.

Also i am short of friends on here soif you see this can you please add me as a friend, thank you in advance, much appreciated

Read closely,

-cant spot reduce fat, intact stomach usually last to go.
-fat loss will occur with overall reduction in calories to below maintenance.
-Specialized "diets" are junk, eat natural food and lean meats, cut down on saturated fat.
-do weights.

The best way to get those muscles and get stronger is to just start lifting. Everyone has to start somewhere. Your diet sounds like you are getting way too few calories and a good chunk of the weight you lost is probably muscle. There is a ton of info on this site that could get you started so I suggest you start digging and asking questions that you can't find answers to.

I'm just going to drop in for a sec.

-If you want to have a flat stomach, you need to lose the fat. You can't direct fat loss to one part of the body, so your overall bodyfat % needs to go down. Situps and crunches aren't useless, but you have to have a lower bodyfat % to see the results for them.

If you want to gain muscle, eat more food and start a weight program. There are plenty of tried and true regimes posted in these forums. That is all.

Cool

yeah, eating 2k calories a day works great, i'm still doing that and i've lost 104 pounds i weigh 216 now. All you need to do to lose the lbs off your stomach is to do cardio man, and do some lunges and body squats with your dumbells that'd really give you a work out just do 3x20 with each then 2x20 w/o weights and you should feel a pretty good burn and gets ur hear rate up... that's what you need to lose the pounds is to keep you heart rate up for a period of time. i do at LEAST 30 min of cardio a day which is like 2 miles of running and some basketball (that's on my break days), but i usually do 20min. on tredmill and 20 on stairstepper which really gets ur heart rate up and hits ur glutes (all w/ a 5min cool down so i'm really doing 50 min of cardio a day and then some). It's all about what u put into ur workouts.
but other work outs you can do with ur dumbells are of coarse: Reg. Curls, Hammer Curls, miltary press, rows, and ex.
Good Luck Man

If your diet is working for you in reducing your weight well, that is good. But by the looks of it, you are not too fat not to do strength training and I think you have lost much of the muscles by your cutting on your food. You should eat more protein and with that .. do combination of strength training to retain or train to build those muscles and do cardio to reduce those fat.

For me, it is not advisable to do spot reduction and you cant do that in your mid section unless you have lip or any other way. But the only way to reduce it is to reduce the fat by doing cardio.

Dont do dumbbells only to strengthen your arms but overall body is needed- shoulders, legs etc.

yea your not going to see much progress if you just use crunches etc to lean out your stomach, you have to loose the fat that covers your abs first if you dont loose the fat and build your abs your just pushing the fat out farther! and start lifting youl see better results throughout your hole body with a good diet and cardio routine while lifing, have to start somewhere.

you do not have to start with weights to get stronger. start with push ups. look up different positions to work out different parts of your chest and arms. it works. i gained quit a bit of strength by just starting that way. and always do cardio. i understand you have no one to go with and it is very hard to push yourself, but if you focus you will reach your goal. good luck with your work out and diet.

i also forgot to add that there are good leg exercises without weights to and they will get you tone. i do super legs. i do about three sets during my leg days. here is what is one set (and do it with no breaks in between the different exersises util done with set)
1) 30 squats 2) 30 lunges 3) 30 jump lunges 4) 30 touch ground touch ceiling (squat down the jump up as high as you can).

also if anyone else has any feedback on my opinion i am open to hear it.

thanks

You can buy a cheap weight bench for $50 that will let you do dumbbell movements. Here are 5 exercises you can do with dumbbells for your upper body:

Dumbbell Bench Press
Dumbbell Bent Over Rows
Dumbbell Shoulder Press
Dumbbell Bicep Curls
Dumbbell Tricep Extensions

You can also do Crunches and Toe Touches to help with your midsection, but the key to losing bodyfat is your diet. Fortunately for you, given your height and weight, you aren't dramatically overweight. Tighten up that diet and keep exercising and that'll help.
