NPC Changes for 2009
From Hardbody News:
The NPC Board of Governors? Meeting took place a couple hours ago at the host hotel. A number of items were discussed amongst the NPC district chairmen/women and others involved in the NPC. I attended the meeting and can confirm the following updates and modifcations.
- There will be a NPC bikini division starting in 2009. There will be a pro bikini division that will begin in 2010. If you do well in figure you won?t do well in bikini. They will be looking for two different looks. There will be no capped delts awarded in the bikini division. You will not be allowed to compete in figure and bikini at the same show. The bikini division will be added to National level shows with Pro cards awarded. There are a number of rules and regulations that have been set and I will provide more of these details later.
- The one piece in fitness and figure has been eliminated in NPC contests on all levels.
- NPC qualifications will change - instead of two it will drop to one year. There are a number of details on this but starting in 2009 if you qualify for a National level show it will be for ONE year instead of TWO. This is for all national qualifications. Fitness, Figure, Bodybuilding and soon Bikini.
- There will be another IFBB Pro card added for the female bodybuilders in 2009. The 2009 NPC USA contest will now award two pro cards to the female bodybuilders. The overall and the runner-up will both receive IFBB pro card eligibility. This will now match what the men receive at this contest.
- NPC JR USAs will be held in Charleston, SC and the new date for this contest is May 23, 2009. This event is also slated to have the first NPC National level bikini division. More information on this contest to come. Tres Bennett does a tremendous job and is a great show for the women to get involved on the national level.

since there is a bikini division does this mean the figure girls can actually look like they work out again?

Nope!
Drexel posted this on the Feminine BB Forums:
I spoke to an IFBB judge who was in the meeting...
Those who qualified to do a national show in 2007/2008 still have 2 yrs to do a show.
Bikini will have height classes.
Bikini will have NO MUSCLE...your avg gurl.
Bikini will have a front and back view pose...nothin major...
Figure gurls CAN NOT cross over and do bikini.
Pro cards will be given out just like figure...
Figure will keep the new look and it will not go back to the hard muscular look.
More info will be posted on NPC's website, your state website and state chairs will distribute info.

Glad others feel the same.
I sure wish we could go back to the original look!

I hope the elimination of the one piece is enough to keep the length of the shows down to at least what it has been in previous years. Otherwise some of these contests could start to grow painfully long once the bikini division starts to gain popularity. Certainly can't complain about there being more female competitors though

Lol, I'm sure they will be longer. Bikini will overtake the one piece in time consumption I'm sure.

just what we need this is supposed to be bodybuilding not a beauty pageant
are the people putting on the shows getting greadier let's just have an average person get on stage and call them competitors.next and give them a pro card for nothing just so they can get more money in their pockets.next thing you'll know these girls will go around saying i am an athelete.what a waste of time. this is as bad as when they told female bodybuilders they had to much muscle(what the hell is that)that's why they came up with figure shows.i feel bodybuilding is going to crap we train, diet and sacrifice are asses off for what so they can just give away pro cards to people who do nothing and then want to send them to the nationals and call them pro's.keeps going this way i'll give up totally on the sport.how about promoting the sport for the hard work ethics and sacrifice that's put into it and quit trying to satisfy for the winers and the complainers who want the strippers on stage and not the real athelets......................LK3

Hey, I had a question, I had an individual that is putting an NPC show on for Figure, and they said we only had to use a 2-piece for the new figure guidelines, this is right or wrong? the show is in Oklahoma.

Correct. NPC Figure and Fitness no longer have a 1 piece suit, though it is still included in the IFBB.

I have no idea what you're talking about. Are you looking at the name of certain shows, like Jr USAs or Jr Nationals?
