Box squats w/ no box. HELP!!
Well my gym obviously has no squat box since it's a commercial gym. BUT I grab one of those cardio steps and stack 45lb plates on top to where I can sit a tad bellow parallel. Just wondering if this is an effective alternative to the actual box. Thanks.

A box is just a box... nothing fancy, anything will do as long as its safe and at the right height... I mean look at my user pic. Those are just boxes lying around in the weight room. They work well enough.
Sometimes I put a plate or two on that bottom box to get a little higher too

that won't work at all.
Your muscles can sense when you are squatting on anything other than the box squat box from EFS. If this is the case, they will shut off completely. You won't get stronger.

Thanks for the heads up. Just ordered the Box Squat Box off of elitefts. Only $169.95! I feel stronger already

You want a box that is very sturdy. Don't risk injuring yourself because you concocted a box using several pieces of equipment. Do you want your "box" failing on you when you have a good amount of weight on your back?
Not saying it's the same thing as box squats, but you can also do pause squats to build explosion out of the hole.

Actually we used that exact same setup for years at school. And after this dump, I must say they held up pretty damn good lol:
