So it turns out that Satan told some truth? Since Moses is writing these scriptures I believe Moses is saying that they really did have their eyes open. But how do we correlate the two scriptures? I'll have to look at it some more.
How would disobeying the Lord enable us to be like Him? Don't you find that odd?

When worded like that it obviously sounds odd. (Disobeying God doesn't make us more like him.) Because they partook of the fruit their eyes were opened. They had a knowledge of good and evil just as God has. The ability to understand and know the difference between good and evil made them more like God. "For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil." Genesis 3:5

Why so ez it seems like you're bringing up a lot of material and quotes and kind of tossing them out there. It's fine that you want to talk about them but it might be better to take them one at a time. Just a suggestion.

Anyways here is part of one of the questions.

"The introduction to the prophecy gives its date as December of 1832. One month prior to this date, South Carolina had passed the Nullification Act, refusing to recognize a law recently passed by the Congress. For 40 years prior to 1832, the North and South had experienced growing tension over trade rights, tariffs and slavery. The editorials and headlines of November and December, 1832 were filled with predictions of violence. Although Micah predicted the birthplace of Christ nearly 730 years prior to that event by the influence of the Holy Spirit, all that Joe had to do was read his newspaper for the text of his prophecy. At the time it was given, most people would have read it and said, "Well, duh!"
Indeed South Carolina passed ordinances declaring their state a free and independent nation and it did seem possible that conflict could arise. It has been said that Daniel Webster and William Lloyd Garrison in 1831 had predicted the break up of the Union. It may have been an easy thing in 1832 or even 1831 for someone to predict that there would be a division between the North and South. However it wasn't really possible to predict in the detail which God revealed.

In April 1843 when the threat of secession was not so immediate, he stuck with the revelation saying, ?I prophesy, in the name of the Lord God, that the commencement of the difficulties which will cause much bloodshed previous to the coming of the Son of Man will be in South Carolina. It may probably arise through the slave question. This a voice declared to me while I was praying earnestly on the subject, December 25th, 1832.? (History of the Church, 5:324.)

yes but the level of detail in the prophecy is what makes it impossible for me to believe because there are a few things that are untrue and never happened. i "throw" all the materials and quotes out there because there was a very large amount of material that questions the validity of joseph smith's so-called prophecies and i am very interested in your explanations. and hey, its only that much better for you isn't it? if you know without a doubt that they are true then it should be cake explaining them.

Why did he tell Abraham to go and sacrifice his son when the Lord had no intention of having Abraham sacrificing his son? It was a test of his faith. I'm not saying that that is exactly why because I didn't live back then, but things like that happen.

Also, how do you know what the purposes of god were in this instance? How do we know that his purpose wasn't fulfilled in this? We don't know, so you are just assuming what god's purpose was.

Okay Abraham was given a command. He obeyed and sacrificing his son was his purpose until the angel told him not to. If it were Patten's test of faith, please refer me to your scriptures where it talks about what he did in order to pass that test of faith. As soon as he settled up all his business and made a disposition of his merchandise did God suddenly say to him "You have passed your test of faith, now die and come up to heaven with me"?

I know what I believe is true and I have no problem in giving an answer to any question or claim about my faith. Sometimes the only answer there is is to trust in the Lord with faith until He helps you understand. You can't figure out all the mysteries of heaven at once. God gives knowledge and understanding to those who sincerely look for it and ask Him. It comes line upon line and precept upon precept according to your faith and true sincerity. Why do you think Jesus taught in parables? Because it conveys to the hearer truth exactly in proportion to his or her faith and intelligence.

If you really wanted to you could find every single revelation, word spoken, thing done, etc by Joseph Smith and use it to try and prove him wrong. Many try all it the time. But like I said, it's ineffective to bring up every thing all at once. Things are better addressed one at a time even though the whole of it is to verify the validity of Joseph Smith.

I would agree. I like the questions you've asked and I've learned more about them myself. But I wouldn't say answering every question is a piece of cake but cake does sound good right now. I do have a couple questions for you. Do you belong to any faith or religion? If so, why did you choose that one?

I wish I could call myself a Christian. It is not that I do not believe in God, it is just that it is so hard for me to maintain a truly Christian life. To me being a Christian is strict adherence to faith and living as an example for others. I do not think I am close to that point yet, so I will not say that I belong to Christianity. For now I hope.

On a side note, one of my best friends from middle school who attends BYU got in touch with me finally after four years. He is going for his two year missionary in May to Miami, FL and I am very happy for him.

That is the beauty of the plan of salvation. We all sin & fall short of the Glory of God, but through repentance through Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. None of us is perfect. You shouldn't condemn yourself.

Congrats to your friend. Not so much as him going to Miami though, I hate that place. He'll love the Cuban food though.

Boy I had to dig this thread out. It was buried deep.

OK Here is another reason I love this church so much. The church has just released a new multilingual DVD "The Testaments of One Fold and One Shepherd." A 65-minute epic film, depicts events from the life and ministry of Jesus Christ as recorded in the New Testament and the Book of Mormon. The DVD, which contains the film in 18 languages.

In the past these were included with your Ensign subscription. I'm not sure if that is going to happen this time our not. I didn't see anything to indicate that. In any case, is this being done for profit? Nope. These are made available for the cost of producing the DVD. It's all for the glory of God and to bring the world His truth.

i cant believe in the church foundations. i know them but i also know the other parts like the fact Joseph's smith was a mason (which is fine i am joining a lodge) how he died. how the first churches where set up. the fact Joseph smith did drink. (according to account of people around him at the time) the fact you can look up court records and see that he got in trouble for fraud.
i dont know if this was covered yet as im still running through this @ page 4 but yes JS drank but that doesnt mean anything, most people wont talk about it as to keep a good example now, but the word of wisdom was not inspired and added to the set belief until a later date by a succeding president of the church (prophet), and was done so as a suggestion fo rhealthier living. now we do regard our body as a temple as do the hindu's and muslims and therefore we have made it a requirement that keeping your body healthy by living the word of wisdom is necessary to enter the actual temple, you will not be shunned ever for breaking hese rules and if anything you will be more strongly embraced and helped to get back on the right path. other members may treat you diff, but hey they are human as are all the leaders of this church, it may be Gods church but it is still ran by man and men make mistakes, thats why they repent.... now i hope you dont continue thinking heresay and rumors of blood oaths are true man, there is 10x more anti mormon propoganda out there then there is for supporting it and it just goes to show the devils dislike and attempts to discredit the church very apparently.

thats all i have to add for now, and btw this is coming from a less active unmarried man with a kid on the way, so im by no means the perfect mormon, but i still belive with all my heart.

(That last part was really important-he accompanied it with a lie as he always does) He never tells the complete truth.

So when they ate the fruit their eyes were opened. They then had a knowledge of good and evil. However, Satan said that they should not die. The Father had said that they should die. So the devil had to tell a lie in order to accomplish his purposes. So though what he said had some truth to it the whole of what he said was a lie. IT WAS A LIE and his purposes were evil.
So according to John 8:44 the devil is a liar....yet you say he told a truth that if Eve ate the fruit she they would be as God then lied right after this. Care to explain how you know this in light of the fact we know he is nothing but a liar that the first part of the verse is true but the second part is a lie? I asked before but regardless if their "eyes were open", how do they become like God other than the fact they now know good and evil. They will ALWAYS be subject to Him as their God for all eternity and not become their own gods.

Anyway Satan can get someone to sin, he will. That is his purpose, not to come to Earth to just lie about things.

Ditto.

Anyway Satin and his angels can deceive us they will. Any thing they can use against us to lead us away from Christ they will use it. Satin is the master of deception. Satin and his servants will lead man away with flaxen cords until they are bound in chains of sin. Then they will try to make man believe all is lost--there is no hope.

But there is hope. This is the gift Jesus Christ. He gave it to us with His suffering and death. Through Him and of Him all mankind may be saved. But we must follow Him. It is our choice. We are free to choose. This is another gift Christ gave to us. We are free to choose the way of death and hell or the way of life and truth.

NICE! Me, I haven't been as good due to me not figuring out where our church building was exactly until this week. But my wife and I will be going this Sunday!

House is coming along nicely, although some of my grass is almost dead. I may have to rip it out, but we'll see.

It may be just dormant. Most grass will do that unless it gets too dry. Get water on it now if you can.

As for me and my house we're doing good. One 22 yr old daughter at home trying to decide what to do. She's working full time but not enjoying what she's doing. An 18 yr old daughter who's just finished her 1st year at college. She'll be working full time or more trying to save up money. Her boyfriend is on his mission and so far she's still waiting--10 months to go. A 17 yr old daughter who we'll be sending off to EFY for a week then it's just work for her. And a 11 yr old daughter who's just beginning to be a terror. My wife and I are just trying to keep a lid on everything.

Been doing that, it just gets so hot on my lawn during the day. My yard faces south which, being where I live, means that the sun is on it all day long. But I'm gonna see if I can't get it to go green still. Ripping it out and replanting or transplanting is going to be the last resort.
