Stairsteppers don't allow you to cheat (momentum) nearly as much as ellipticals. Do both, but I personally prefer the stairstepper - I've always found it to be a harder workout.

It's the intensity of the exercise that counts the most. One thing to remember is that if you just stick to one for too long, your body will adapt and it will become to easy, even at higher intensity, allowing for less effort. Pick which one you like the best and go for it. Switch your cardio machine every so often, but work hard!

Assuming a body weight of 70 kg, both will burn about 600 calories per hour. I think the elliptical will burn slightly more, but there won't be much difference. Below are links to sites that can help you to estimate the calories burned during specific activities:

Training to Trance Music = Win

I always play Trance when I'm jogging, and when I join a gym in the next month I'm definitely gonna try what you said on the crosstrainer.

Less than 1 month til Armin comes back to Melbourne too! I can't wait! Trance FTMFW!

Both will work as well as the other. Just make sure you have the right intensity. The only benefit I can see is going to the elliptical as it is better on your joints.
