Congratulations on your improvements. I tore my pec back in February and got the surgery in March, I'm about 8 weeks post op, getting my ROM nearly 100% now. It's great to be able to see your progress, gives me motivation. How long was it before you were able to start training your arm? My chest did not atrophy that bad but my right arm is down 2-3", it's really annoying me. I can't wait to start to get it back to what it was but still want to be cautious and not rush at the same time. Thanks for your reply, keep up the good work!

sorry to hear that man! if i recall about 7 or 8 weeks post sling removal i had 100% ROM. the key is to use that arm as much as possible for your every day things...not referring to training quite yet.
i think 4 weeks post sling removal they gave me the green light to do light training...and i do mean little. i only started with 5lbs d-bell curls and all isolation movements. but no chest and back for months afterwards. i was in a sling for 2 months so it didnt take much to breakdown my muscles.
my arm was down 3" and chest was seriously smaller too..it was very depressing.
the key is to BE PATIENT, it will all come back and then some. i was determined to no end on getting back to my former self and then some(added leg size).
anytime you have a question or questions, pop in and let me know and i'll get back to you right away!
cheers.. staying positive is key!

Just had a follow up with the surgeon today (9 weeks), been cleared to do light bicep curls (5lb) and wall push ups. Man the 5lbs feels kind of heavy! Was there anything specific that worked well for you when you while doing the first few weeks of biceps? Feeling really weak now and want to strengthen up my arm as much as I can. Shoulder isolation and chest with weights are still off limits. Everything is healing up nicely, now I was told it's time to focus on strengthening my muscles while still being cautious. My ROM is getting close to 100% finally. Any suggestions are really appreciated, thanks!

lol..i so remember man! my forearms BURNED like hell, i was doing like 40reps... basically bro you dont need to do much to break down the muscles. 5lbs is good enough, its way more work then its been use to for months! give it time and you'll gradually get stronger and stronger OH one think i remembered is my elbow joints KILLED and hurt SOOO BAD but over time that will go away too. its basically like starting all over again and thats how you have to see it. FORGET about what you did before, this is a brand new clean slate so make the best of it!
now that you have 100%ROM start using your arms as much as possible for everyday tasks...still be thoughtful of the weight.

NO matter your hardships, with hard work, dedication anything is possible and i proved it throughout this thread. Take that negative and turn it into a positive and never lose sight of your goal/goals. Use that negativity to fuel that inner fire and use it in a positive productive fashion.
Not for one moment did i feel that it was the end of the world when i tore my pec, instead i gave it much thought on how i would conquer and overcome this adversity. I only grow through my hardships, it is what helped mold who i am today!
I feel very fortunate to be where i am today! Im thankful i had people/friends who believed in me and encouraged me to keep plugging away. Only surround yourself with peeps who are positive....i got rid of all my friends or anyone i knew who had nothing but negative energy!

initially the tendon tore away from the bone, they reattached it but post surgery..probably due to stress the muscle belly tore as well as 2/3 of the tendon. it was unrepairable but i still had to go in for surgery for the hematoma..which cost me 3 times as much as the repair because i went to a hosptial rather then a surgery center!
surgery wasnt successful, i was in a sling for 2 months and lost 3 inches on my arm. but after 8 weeks of upper body training my right arm(bad arm) caught up to my left arm. as far as my delt..it too MONTHS AND MONTHS for it to build! post surgery my front delt atrophied to nothing..no joke! i had no front delt and couldnt flex anything..i thought they messed up my surgery but its just normal. its crazy how quickly you can lose muscle if you stop working it!

06-15-09 *Progression report*
Well i can officially say, my right chest is 100% ok! Im now confident to hit the weights heavy, in fact i'm stronger now then i was pre-pec tear! Im definately the most muscular i'
ve ever been, sitting at 194lbs @ 6% bodyfat! Currentely im training in one of those FITNESS CLUBS and have been for years...GOLDS GYM sucks, at least here in MN so i switched over to LA Fitness which is an AWESOME CLUB, tons of variety. Problem is...you come to a point where, even after pre-exhausting your bodypart where you do the stack of weight on the machines! This is my current problem now, it feels like im doing cardio. Plus the dumbells only go up to 125lbs...WTF right, so you can forget about flat bench d-presses and forsure shrugs. Soon i'll be strong enought to shoulder press them! THOUGHOUT THIS WHOLE EXPERIENCE...MUSCLETECH has helped a ton! With my winnings as runner up in the Muscletech Bodyspace Transformation contest last year, it helped me keep my size as much as possible during my recovery. NOW its helping grow and grow like a weed i am! I wont lie, its a bit pricey but YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! These past several months has been the best training experience i've had since i was a teen when i first picked up a weight. Its like im a kid again....i felt hopeless and depressed when i tore my pec and VOWED never to feel like that again...turn hardship into a positive manor....it fueled me, it consumed me, it made me who i am today! i dont regret anything that has or ever will happen. The power is within you, you can let it kick you down or GTFU and own it!
Im pumped LOL, time to hit legs!

Really happy for you jerome. I remember when you first started the thread as it was one of the few to be stickied in the injury forum early on. You've made great progress and whats more you've left a ton of info for anyone who happens to suffer a pec tear.
From your experience, what advice do you give to all bb'ers to PREVENT injuries from occurring in the first instance (pec tear or otherwise). I know it can happen as an accident, but when an injury occurs I think you can look back and identify signs that built up to the injury, be they small or big.

thanks man, yeah i really truely hope this helps anyone else who comes across the same situation!
injury prevention, if i would have done it all over again i would have NEVER started out with a compound movement for my 1st exercise! i knew better too and always started with an isolation movement to preexhaust the bodypart i was working. then i would stretch once i was fully warmed up. in addition i would NOT have done reps lower then 6...i was over zealous and kept testing myself week after week and it finally caught up to me.
bodybuilding is not a strength contest, its about muscle growth ..you can get the job done(break down the muscle) doing higher, more concentrated reps then doing low reps...PLUS you get a way better burn. im not ANTI-BENCH but i am a firm believer in pre-exhausting the bodypart you're going to work before hitting ANY compound movement like BENCH, SHOULDER PRESSES, SQUATS etc.
NO REGRETS, live is a learning experience and hopefully i have or will help others in my journey to recovery! not only did i learn more about myself, how to train smarter but i also have the satisfaction knowing i'm helping others here!
