[QUOTE=reefpicker;322746211]What did your doctor said about this? Just "normal" cortisol?
Your T4 test are given in ng/dl, if that is correct then, according to Medline Plus:
...You would have low levels... 1 mcg = 1,000 ng.
Which would be a cause for worry and would mean you need your T3 and TSH levels tested.
- correction -
Free T4 was 1 ng/dL - Range is listed at 0.8 -1.5 ng/dL
The Doctor is a MD specializing as an endocrinologist, I think he did a residency or internship at Mayo Clinic, saw something on the wall. He seemed less concerned of my complaints because I'm a "young healthy muscular male." ... that's not how I feel on the inside.
The doc said he felt cortisol was normal on the initial test, and of course the lab results mailed to me have "HIGH" or "LOW" in big black bold letters next to results that are out of the ranges listed. my RBC count and EOS% were high, and the other results I listed had "LOW" next to them, so I blatantly asked, "Well why does the lab sheet say "LOW" and my values are way under the minimum on the range?"
Then the Dr. conceded to do the ACTH stimulation test where to my understanding, they inject the synthetic hormone that stimulates the adrenal gland function. The doctor said my cortisol values were lower than he liked to see on that test, but just to come back in 3 months to check cortisol again because hormones fluctuate. All in all, it felt like a huge waste of time, my insurance did not cover 100% of the tests and I was out of pocket about $250.
