Thanks all! It has been an incredibly busy month and thankfully it's almost over!!! (not that next month gets any easier) The past 3 weeks I've been too busy to get to the gym. I think I mentioned it before but I'm not sure so here's the run down. The Battalion I am working with is deploying to the big sandbox in June. I'm here helping the prep work and sticking state side when they go to get stuff set up and working. The past 3 weeks called for 18 to 20 hour days but I did watch my nutrition as best I could and managed not to put on any weight. Yesterday I had a check up and found out that my cholesterol is right on target without any medication! My bad cholesterol is 125 and my good is 43, considering last year before I started here my bad cholesterol was 219 my Dr was thrilled! Unfortunately I have an enlarged prostate and will have to have a colonoscopy in the next few weeks. Well you have to have good and bad together and at least I'm not the guy looking up my tukkus!
On the 31st I leave for another 2 weeks for a school. Prior to my going I needed to take the Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT). This has always been a challenge for me and after 2 weeks of not working out or running I wasn't expecting it to get any easier. Amazingly enough I passed it through sheer force of will and determination. Had this been any other time in my life I may have just packed it in so huzzah for progress! Tomorrow I start back in the gym, I have to take another APFT when I get to the school to make sure the one I took today wasn't bogus. The downside is on April 25th I move up to the next age bracket and my APFT gets easier. Timing really is everything!
I'm not sure if I will hit anyone's journals this week. There is a distance learning phase of the course I am going to and I need to get through the next 100 course hours in the next 5 days in order to make sure I can attend the school. Yeah fun right? Right now I'm working on Military Load Classification for bridges. It's pure geekeneese if you ask me!!!!

Wow -- you are busy! So, does that mean you go to the Sandbox in June also?
Yay about your cholesterol! Woohoo!
You'll do fine on the test and no worries about the age bracket! I say you ALWAYS demand to be in the lower age bracket. Think Jack Lalanne!
Happy Wednesday Joe!

Thanks Diane! I am thrilled about the cholesterol particularly as high cholesterol runs in my family.
No, no trip to the sandbox for me. Everyone here wants me to go but when I tell them what it will take they don't want to do it. I tell them simply they have to get it by my wife and they'll have to tell her in person. LOL!
Happy Wednesday to you too! I hope things are well.

The downside is I have to take 2 tests prior to turning 42 and being in a higher age braket (easier test). Oh, and because I know you will want to know 2 miles in 18:01. The fastest I ran it on the treadmill two weeks ago was 18:26!

a 9 min mile is better than a lot of "runners" do it. It's funny sometimes when people who claim to be runners talk about their 2 miles in 24 minutes. I do NOT consider myself a runner and I just kinda smile to myself...not laughing at them...but just proud of my accomplisments.

Hi again all! Wow all I can say is weekend from HE**!!!!!! It was all the online course I was doing and my wife was incredibly understanding of me spending 14 hours on Saturday and another 8 on Sunday when she hasn't really seen me at all this month. Tomorrow before my flight I'm running to the florist to send her something, she deserves it!
I leave tomorrow evening for North Dakota, from what I hear the weather will not be very receptive. Such is life right? There is an old military saying, "If it ain't rainin' then it ain't trainin'" No, we're not a very bright bunch sometimes. LOL The good news is there is a gym that I will have access to while I am there! From what I remember when I was there in 97 it was small but pretty nice so I will be taking advantage of it. Actually it's the thing I'm looking forward to the most! Needless to say I won't be gunning for any PR's but it will be good to get that fire back and reintroduce myself to the squat rack.
With any luck I'll be able to get online some and will do my best to get in to visit people's journals. It will be good to catch up on where everyone is and how things are going with my online family. Thanks for all the wonderful support and warm wishes while I've been too busy to swing by. Hugs and high fives where appropriate.

Hey, Joe! Good to hear from you!
When you get back in the gym, just take it easy to start. You'll have an urge to go overboard, most likely. Don't do it; just ease back into things.

Hey Joe, good to see you.
Hopefully you'll get to put in some time at the gym up there. Be safe, and like Bill said...ease into things.

Joe,
What's this nonsense - going AWOL is MY thing - not yours!
I'm back now, and it's sad to see that you've been about as busy as I have.
Glad to see that you passed that APFT! I know you'd been concerned about that for a long time.

Welcome to my world - on both counts.
I got my cholesterol down through diet alone - and I also have to get up 2 to 3 times a night
I got an undated script for Flomax from my doc. I can't bring myself to try it, though - would rather deal with getting up at night.

You know I really can not wait for things to slow down in my world! Seriously! Let me recap the past 3 - 4 weeks. I finished up the computer portion of my course Sunday night at 5 pm, the deadline was 8 am Monday. Flew to North Dakota on Tuesday only to be snowed in, yes SNOWED IN! It was 60 when I left my house and there was 2' of snow on the ground in North Dakota. I was looking forward to using the gym there which had expanded since the last time I was there but in typical Army logic you can't use the gym until you take and pass the physical training test. That was done on Friday inside a high school. Laps were done in the hallway around the gym. Picture 20 guys running through 8' wide hallways with 90 degree corners for 22 laps. What a nightmare. Somewhere along the way I lost track of my time and ended up getting in 12 seconds over my time. That 12 seconds kept me from being able to get into the gym the following week. Did I mention that it would also include a week and a half of Army food? Why in the hell are they serving scalloped potatoes twice a week and why is she giving me attitude when I don't want that gravy they are calling sauce on my pasta? God forbid I get on a #%^&@ treadmill a few nights out of the week right? Thankfully I made the run the last time around and actually finished top in my class overall.
I'm finally going to be able to hit the gym this coming week. I'm not thrilled that it's been well over a month since I've been in there and will actually end up being almost 2 before I get in there. GRRRR! I will behave and not over do it but I need to get my butt back in gear. Monday is leg day hell to celebrate my birthday. I am hoping to be here more often but no promises, this next month and a half will not be slowing down for me.

Good to see you, Joe.
I guess the one good thing about living in the sandbox was that you could hit the gym more regularly.

Hi Unimoose!!!! Glad to see a post from you! What a frustrating chain of events. You can't prove you are able to go to the gym until you pass the tests, but how is someone supposed to pass the tests if they can't get into the gym to train?
Anyway, next week you will be SORE but happy to be working out, I am sure!! Take care and thanks for dropping in my thread. Your support means a lot to me!!!!

Hey buddy, glad you are able to get back.
From experience when I was sick for a month and a half... GO SLOW!! Use your first workout to find your RMs again as they will change... a lot.
However, your "recovery" will go quickly and you should be able to build back up to your previous RMs within a month or so. Just go slow... sorry can't say that enough as you can get injuried easily during this time.

If you must fight... fight for love...
LOVE of family (spouse, sons, daughters)... LOVE of country... LOVE of freedom...
Don't let the enemy take anything from you, but take everything from them...
Cause in the end... one will fight harder and stronger for love than anything else in the world.

That's crazy man! What a ball buster to land back in winter wonderland after a long winter here. It's good to see you back here and I hope it levels out soon. Have a great leg day, but prepare for some serious pain thereafter. Legs don't take kindly to long layoffs.

That is very true Duncan, heck I was even in the middle of a workout when someone took pot shots at the camp and finished what I was doing!

Thanks Rich. Things should start to calm down for me in another month or so... hopefully. I think I was home for 15 days of the last 7 weeks! UGH! Thankfully that is behind me and I'll have more time at home soon.

This is a little something we like to call Army logic. Actually some people with less scruples than others will go into the gyms and fake an injury to get out of stuff or to get a workman's comp thing going for themselves. Unfortunately it screws it up for the guys that really want to go and workout.

The support here for everyone is one of the best things this forum has going for it IMHO. I'm looking forward to the soreness actually.

Definitely time to reinforce form and figure out where I am with everything plus lots of stretching.

You know it Bill! It looks like the CSM is off his pushup kick and starting into a running kick (3 miles a day) so I won't need to worry about cardio on most days before or after my workouts which will make things easier.

No kidding! It was 60 when I left here and snowing in ND! I was thinking of riding the bike to the gym but I may have to change my mind and honestly assess whether or not I'll be able to keep it upright at a stop after leaving the squat rack! LOL
