I have just about all tribal and the reason I started with and will end with tribal is because I personally like how they look and wanted to stay consistent in my design. No reason to get a tattoo if you don't like the look of it. Honestly man...to each their own, why make a smart ass post about it.

That's sweet man! How do you start a sleeve? Do you plan the whole thing out or just start with one piece of art at the top of the arm?

dude i'm just stating an opinion. if you like them then who cares what other people think? i'm in the camp that tattoos should have some sort of deep meaning behind them other than just looking cool
like that guy a few pages back who had that tool/sublime/wu tang combobulation on his arm and got tons of flak for it. while i dont like any of those bands and i think the design was clumsy and some color and added detail could have made it 300% better, i still appreciate that he put tons of thought into something that has a lot of deep meaning to him, and as ugly as it is to us he thinks its still cool
i hope it doesnt happen to you but i really dont think most people will like their tribal/japanese kanji tattoos down the line. thats all im saying so no need to take offense
personally im saving up to get a (western) dragon on my left arm going from the bottom of my neck spiraling all the way down to my wrist. it's going to be clutching 4 symbols of personality traits that i have in its talons. since dragons in western culture are typically abhorred or misunderstood from culture to culture (including being loathed and feared to loved and praised), the dragon itself symbolizes my sort of outcast nature since people are usually afraid of me before they know me, and either they are scared off right away or they get to know me. if they take the time to get to know me they usually absolutely love me

Well stated man. I agree to the whole tattoo meaning something, just not looking cool. Mine also have meaning though. My right arm (chinese) means wisdom/knowledge, loyal/faithful and to honor/to respect. My chest is my last name and my left side is also my name. Both done to resemble tribal. All the rest connects everything together. Always wanted to stick with one style and color.
Yours sounds like it should turn out pretty cool. Post it up once done.

I can tell you that at 24 I picked out a tat that I never ended up getting. It wasn't untill I was 50 before I got mine. It ended up being some original art that has a lot of meaning to me. (one was drawn by my son and the other was actually drawn on free hand by my other son).
I've really enjoyed em and my only regret is I wish I had not been talked out of getting a tattoo when I was your age. However I'm really glad I didn't get the one I had picked off the wall back then.
I think if it is an original piece that has meaning to you that you wont regret it.

Some real nice tats in here.
Mine is just a small one. I drew it and decided I liked it. I want to go bigger now and spread it across my lats or go with something on both my delts, I like symmetry.
Check av pic to see it.
