I'm new to the forums, and only 31, but finding more in common with the over 35 crowd than the general forums. Doing lots of reading so far, we'll see how the posting goes as my questions come up.

Back in the saddle
Hi,
Been lurking since I returned to the gym after a 20 year layoff, hit the gym again 19 Jan 2009 so that is about 11 - 12 weeks now.
Been quietly, if not regularly updating my body space and have decided to post a couple of pictures as of now so that I can see the progress in the future.
BB.com has pretty much inspired me to really go for it now, just goes to show that once we get over 35 we can still push our limits and achieve goals that we probably thought were out of our reach (I know my mindset has changed in that aspect) and BB.com, especially the over 35 forum has made a big difference in my attitude to the future.

Mate, start with a health check at your Doctors first. Analyse your diet, drop your calorie intake by 25% and start some gentle cardio four to five times a week. Maybe, do a mix of treadmill or cycling, due to the stress factors on your joints. Speak to a gym trainer and get a simple high rep resistance routine going. It aint going to happen over night bro, so set small goals first and a realistic time period of say 6 months to see some good results. Progress should be seen week by week................just dont expect miracles.

You might also want to start using a Thermogenic to assist with weight loss. I'm currently using Atro-Phex and it's pretty powerful. I also had a sample of VPX meltdown which seemed quite good. Of course you'll want to heed any warnings on the label. Good luck and stay focused.

Build up the cardio gradually buddy, and ensure that you monitor your heart rate etc. Doctor checkup is always a good start as well as previously mentioned.
Also may be a good idea to add some carbs (sweet potato etc) in small amounts to help curb cravings. Other members may have more info on a nutrition regimen that will suit your goal.
Good luck

Can't really fault the diet mate, its probably better than mine at the minute. Workout looks well structured and has plenty of cardio in there too. As I mentioned before, it wouldnt hurt to speak to a gym instructor at your gym and get them to do the old B/F calculations on you etc. They normally set up progress charts and before, ongoing and after pics. I know a lot of gyms do that for free over here in Oz and the UK (my home land).

New to this
Hi
Just started working out around 3 weeks ago. with just light weights, after a very long time of performing any type of exercise. Always been skinny, not sure why, but after close to 50 years getting embarrassed about it (mid life crisis probably). Any how, my lower back is starting to ache (muscle strain). I would guess it's my technique. Should I take a couple of days off or push myself to iron the kinks out?

I'm new....
Hello Y'all !!!
I'm new to this thread, so please be gentle. LOL !!!
Anyway, I am in the Muscle Tech Transformation Contest. I know that I really don't have a chance, at this point, but I will not quit until the very end.
And then some.
I want to compete in a bodybuilding contest (probably something natural) and I was hoping to do it this year, if not next.
I am 40 yrs old, but feel like I did when I was first getting into the military iin the late 80's. I'll be 41 in Sept. I weight 264 as of today. I am working out 5-6 days a week, and doing at least an hour of "cardio"(I call it fat-burning cuz I don't go too fast) a day. I have just switched over to a "High-Rep" scheme for my workouts (even though I think that I did it waaaayyyyy too late).
I am eating about as healthy as I have EVER eaten in my whole life. I am beginning to hate chicken breasts. I eat salmon, tuna, and turkey (as well as chicken breats) for my whole meal protein souces. Several different veggies (broc, cauli, romaine and iceberg lettuce, carrots, asparagus, spinach, etc) including a yam/sweet potatoe occasionally. I drink about a gallon and a half a day (I feel water logged at times) not including the water for oatmeal, grits and protein shakes.
I am currently taking Creakic and Leukic (bought for the Muscle Tech Contest), Body Fortress Whey Protein Powder (from Wal-Mart) and a multi-vitamin.
I do have one question, though.....if anyone can answer it I would be grateful......Can I/ Should I put Pinto Beans into my diet at this time ? (I am hispanic and have never had the "gas" problems before. Would it interfere with my cutting down ?
Thank you all in advance.
Respectfully,
Manny FU2

I am just getting back on the wagon. But when I initially lost all my weight I used a program from Muscle Fitness. Your exercise regime sounds just like it. BTW, I am doing 1hr of cardio as well. You have to assess how much calories you need. I stayed between 1800-2000. This may be too low if you are doing loads of cardio and weightlifting. But here is the diet:
Breakfast: Breakfast Turkey Sausage (4), 1/2 cup of egg whites
MM: Protein Shake 42-50grams
Lunch: Chicken/Salmon/Tuna (4-5oz), 2cups of veggies
MM: Protein Shake 42-50grams
Dinner: Chicken/Salmon/Tuna (4-5oz), 2cups of veggies, 2TB almond butter
I did this M-Thursday. On Friday I added carbs like the beans you are mentioning. However, I would eat them in the morning. So Breakfast was oatmeal with the egg whites. Then, I would have one of these three with lunch: beans/brown rice/yams. Then I would go back to the M-Th nutrition. The purpose was to do a slight carb load to avoid craving and crashing on the weekend. I was dropping 1-2lbs a week. Hope this helps.

Hi Everybody
Hello, I am new to the forum and am so glad that I found it! It might really help me with motivation. I am going to be 38 soon and feel great but I still wanna get in better shape!
I have a question already...
1) I have the calipurs for measuring bodyfat and a scale. I feel that the cheap scale that I bought is incorrect. I don't really feel confident with the calipurs to make sure that I don't put bias into the measurements. Where do you recommend I do to get a more accurate bodyfat % check?
Thanks....

I am brand new to this; so new, that when I look at some of the pics of the over 35 women, I don't find the pictures of these gorgeous women inspirational. Actually, they depress me because I wonder if I could ever have a body as beautiful as the ones some of those gals have.
Unfortunately, joining a gym is not an option; money is extremely tight as I am in school, however, I do have a tread mill, exercise bike, roman chair, and some hand weights (2 5lb and 1 10lb) to work with.
Surely there is something I can do to get in shape with what I have available? I can't even think about body building at this point... I would be happy being toned.
Maybe some day I will be comfortable posting pics. Right now, I am compiling some of the common sense advice I have read in this thread and am using it as a motivator.
Thanks for reading.

New & Lost
Hi. Have read some on the site and I am very impressed with the quality and class of people here. I am not a body builder, but I do want to build mine into a better one and would love to put on more muscle in the butt, arms, back, ok......everywhere. I am a little heavier than I usually am at 130 lbs. When I am around 120 I feel like I am very thin and I believe that is because of the lack of muscle.
So thats why I am here, to gain muscle and I have no idea how to do it. So I will post in the over 35 forums and hope someone can help me. Again, I am glad to be here, and looking forward to my new way of life and new way of thinking when it comes to working out.

I'm new. I've been lurking for some time and have been impressed with the knowledge and spirit on this site.
I hope my posts will be something which adds to the above.
Been lifting for about a year and a half and consider myself "just getting warmed up". I'm still building but consider myself to have some serious cutting ahead of me.

Hi everyone. I'm back as a member after several years away from the site. Some things have changed, but what hasn't changed is that this is very informative site with a lot of good people. I'm 39 and have been lifting for quite a while. Glad to be back!

Welcome Everyone!
Just dropping through to say welcome to the new and newest members. I always point out that this is a very supportive site with lots of knowledgeable people! My BodySpace friends definitely kept me going through a difficult patch in March. Hopefully, I can do the same if necessary! I wish everyone the best in reaching their fitness and/or bodybuilding goals.

Where to start
Hello all.
I am 40 years old and have started working out again after about a 9 year period of inactivity. I used to work out on a regular basis and brought my weight down from 260 lbs to 205lbs. I was single at the time and had a lot of time on my hands. Now I am married and have three children, so I have little time to spare, so I have been hitting the gym during my lunch hour. My workouts before marriage consisted of a lot of aerobic workouts such as step classes and some weight training. I also followed the Adkins diet and had great results.
This time around I have tried to follow the same routine, but I have found that I am not getting the same results. So, I have been doing some reading about doing weight training to lose fat. The goal I am seeking is lose about 50 pounds. I am currently 245 lbs. I would like to work on my arms and shoulders and get them bigger ad more strength. I would like to get more definition in my chest and not make it any bigger since I already have a large chest. I need some direction.
Can someone point in the direction of a good routine and meal guide?
Thanks!!

had an account for years
But, I'm just been pretty active everywhere on this forum. I'll spew my vast pea-brain knowledge if I feel I have an answer to contribute. This over 35 section seems to be the one I most frequent. I do the sport training stuff, too.
Anyways, I'm just trying to keep up with the young guns on the basketball court.
I still do sport-specific stuff, functionals, plyos, weight training (olympic style and supersets), calisthenics, some core/bal/stab junk. Thinking of returning to boxing workouts again, too, just to mix it up like I seem to do all the time.

Trying to get motivated!
Ok, i'm doing all i can with my new BB site. Filling out questioners, adding stats, background info etc...I'm excited to start anew again, although i really wish i just stuck with it! But here i go again. Wanting to get toned and possibly "buff". I love HERS magazine! Was so thrilled to find a mag like it! I try to share it with other women, but they just look at me weird. I guess on this site i won't be looked upon as a "weirdo". I didn't realize it was uncool to be healthy and toned!

Hi all. I'm 41, 5'7", am currently 138lbs and want to get down to about 122lbs. I've chosen this weight because that's what I got down to 3 years ago with weight training and lots of cardio. Yup, I did cardio at least 5 days a week and weight trained about 3 times a week. Though I'd like to see what HIIT would do for me, I know I'd hate it until I've gotten my stamina back up.
Of course I wouldn't mind my weight climbing back up once my fat loss goals are reached and I can increase muscle mass. I think I'm an ectomorph with a little bit of mesomorph thrown in.
I tend to get into pretty good shape fairly quick and then relax too much and get lazy!! Argh! This has been my pattern for about 5 years and I HATE THAT!!
This time I let my weight creep back up more than previous years. Still, I'm hoping to stick with it for good this time, and not let myself relax once I've reached my initial goals, especially since I don't just want to be "slim". I want people to look at me and think, "she must pump iron!"
I'm using "The New Rules of Lifting for Women", and have only just begun Stage 1.
