deciding your lifts.
im preparing for my first competition. this may 9th.
the "howard county bench press open" i'll be competeing in the 181 class.
but i have no idea how to set up my lifts. how should i determine my opener , 2nd attempt and 3rd attempt? my current 1rm is around 215-220. with a pause probably 205-210.

Open light, you're just trying to get in the meet. Something you can hit for 3-5 in a hurricane.
Second attempt I like to usually go for a small PR, if you miss, you get to take it again, if you make it, you can go for broke on your third.
If you are really lifting against other people you will have to adjust your attempts on what you need to win.

This^^^^^^^. Everyone's advice is going to be the same. Open with something that you can triple even if your a dead tired, sick, and were just mauled by a wild animal. Second either go for your current 1RM or for a few lbs over. Depending on your second lift, if you missed depending on how you fell go for it again or add more, If you hit your second lift go for broke on the third.
In the stickies there is also some info for your first meet. Preperation, warm-up, lifts, and a ton of other great advice.

this works, assuming your training is decent. If you decide to train poorly, you might want to bring your second attempt down a bit.
