Ganglion Cyst - Experiences?
So, I finally figured out what that pain in my wrist is. I have a ganglion cyst, and apparently have since summer 2008. Only now, it's noticeable and before it wasn't.
Mine is on my wrist, back of my hand between the ulna and radius. I guess that's a common place for them to be.
Anyone have experiences with this? What did you do? Did you do anything?

I have had one for 3ish years now.
I smashed it- it came back.
I had it aspired- it came back.
I went to have is aspired again but the doctor lied & only performs surgery. He tried to talk me into surgery ($10,000)- I told him **** off, I'm not paying for my visit you lying scumbag.
It's only painful if I type/text too much. Lol, like geek carpel tunnel. Other than that it doesn't limit my wrist flexibility or anything.
Btw, you can clearly see the size of mine on the larger size of my avatar pic.

I had one on my wrist, it was painful, and had a cortizone shot on it and it never came back...it has been about 5-10 years, I can't remember exactly when I had it.

Thanks for the replies. I guess we'll see how the brace thing works. I wouldn't mind it nearly as much if I didn't interfere with lifting.

Hey Sophie,
I've had one on my right, inner wrist (just below where the thumb meets the wrist) for YEARS (at least 30-ish) - got it from a hard fall onto concrete, bracing myself with my hands. Every doctor I've been to has said that it is benign, no need to mess with it unless it's painful. It isn't, so I've just leared to live with it. Forget about it most of the time...
Good luck to you and your "gang"lion buddy... I tease, but if it's painful (and hampering workouts {gasp}) you should have it removed. Possibly the cortisone shot that Nubbers had would work for you?

LOL, I have one on my right hand...my husband calls it my "alien brain", lol. Mine hurts occasionally, and it actually went away for a few years, but now it's back and as annoying as ever! I'll have to ask about the cortisone shot for it...that's a good idea. Anyway, I hope you figure out how to get rid of the pain....that's no fun at all!

I'll have to wait until I get a job and insurance before I get anything done to it. The trainer said they couldn't do anything for it here and if something needs to be done, I'd need to see a specialist. But, I FULLY intend on doing something about it. My deadlifts were so much better when my grip strength wasn't compromised.
Having it in the brace, even or less than a day now, has helped with the pain. It's not as painful. I take the brace off to type and will take it off when I lift later tonight, but other than that, it's always on, which is also annoying since it's my right hand and of course I"m right handed.

I should have asked this before, to those who smashed it, was it really painful?

Ouch! the smashing sounds really painful. I had one years ago also on the wrist, and it went away on its own.

I accidentally smashed mine and yes, it hurt, lol! But it actually did stay gone for a few years, however it did return....just as I understand they all do. From what I've heard....there's not really a permanent solution, although it sounds like the coritisone might work pretty well.

It seems that its more common in woman to have these. I have one below my thumb on my left wrist. Its painful at times depending on how I move my thumb. I have been keeping it in a wrist support during the day. Mine is about the size of a dime to look at but to touch, the size of a pea.
The cortizone shot sounds good but I hear they are painful to get.
