I believe most female sports suffer for the very same reason, lack of the interest needed to bring in money and sponsors.
You need to have likable, outgoing, and interesting people representing it to bring crowds and interest. Market to women groups, girl power, the lesbian communities (to name a few)... and have a rep for each that can relate to that group of people and promote. That's really the only chance you have to make things better.
Men deal enough with haters who want to bash them for using roids so women are only going to have it worse. Think of it this way, most men wouldn't mind having more muscle, most women wouldn't mind their guy having more muscle and find it sexy... so it's more natural for people to admire the male mass freaks in pro BBing just to see how far one could take it. Women on the other hand, most don't want more muscle, and most men don't want their woman having more muscle, so it's an uphill battle.

Already posted a warning about personal attacks, or a reminder about the rules, since so many people seem to think they can feel free to disgregard them. Will re-open after clean-up.
Why people cannot have a discussion without name-calling is baffling, especially when it is about a subject they profess to have no interest in.
So far in a five page thread, I have deleted nearly one entire page of crap.
Stellar, positively stellar.

Re-opened by request.
We had to edit this thread on three different occasions, two after a warning was posted in the thread.
There is no reason why people need to make personal attacks. If you cannot refrain from doing so, refrain from posting.

Grazie.
Now back to the original reason for this thread - to bring attention to the 2010 IFBB TAMPA PRO FBB SHOW. If you are not interested in this show, you by all means should find something else you are interested in and spend your quality time there!

As it stands, since sponsorship funds are low, there are now only currently 4 Female Bodybuilding IFBB Pro shows. 2 of those are invitational (the Ms Olympia in Vegas and the Ms International at the Arnold). Right now the only 2 open FBB shows are the New York Pro and the Atlantic City Pro. Tim Gardner, the promoter of the Tampa Pro, had to drop the women off the ticket this year, but he has guaranteed that women will be back for 2010 if $12k is raised by December. Thus far, individuals have given a total of $3250 (see http://siouxcountry.com/showthread.php?t=6354 ) and Species Nutrition has pledged $1000 directly to Tim through 813.908.7763 / tgflex@aol.com
Please, if we can give something, it would really mean a lot to the women of the sport, and to me personally. I am striving to earn Pro status, but what's the use if there are no shows to compete in?
Individual contributions are welcomed via the Paypal button at the top right of the SC.com page, or directly to Tim.
Thanks for your time,
Vanessa Adams

I will donate if Siouxcountry is not involved. I don't trust him with money and I think he is part of the reason females in this sport are struggling at the pro level. If the women want money great but let's give it to the actual show owner and promote it on reputable sites.
I would also like to tell Vanessa Adams that I am highly disappointed in the things that have been said about bodybuilding.com on the site she moderates at...Siouxcountry.
I feel you are here in the interest of promoting Sioux's site instead of getting funds for the Tampa show. You do not have anything good to say about this site but yet come here asking for money.
I will donate....but not through your agenda or through the Siouxcountry site.

Feel free to contact Tim Gardner: 813.908.7763 / tgflex@aol.com
I am fine with this site, simply not the attacks I have gotten. I have referred to this thread as a 'hot mess' and an 'argument' and stand by my words. If you had seen it before moderator editing, I'm sure you would agree.
As for me, you will notice that I have been a poster on this site for a long time, and that I keep my training journal here. This was my first forum and where I do the majority of my internet posting. But I am not the issue. In this case, I would rather have you hate me and donate to Tim than adore me and not.

Cool. So you'll pay for my NPC card this year? Do not the dues of the women go toward the same organization?
|
I'm pretty sure he's saying the revenue that the men's side brings in partially pays for the women's show and/or that when there's a show often times people will come to see the men's and see the women's show while they're at it but go there in the first place to see the guys.
As as for paying for your stuff, in a way, all the male athletes are paying for the women. See what I'm sayin? As for dues, I'm pretty sure they aren't enough to cover the costs of puttin on a show. If that were the case then the IFBB and NPC could just have endless amounts of shows all over the place.

Well if we're talking sheer numbers of competitors, in that case Figure is paying for the men and women.

Also, it is against the rules to compete in other orgs, and you may not be allowed to compete in the current shows that remain. Remember PDI?

I'd say the forum is about 90% female competitors or aspiring competitors.
Congratulations doesn't have a 't'.

At Pro only shows, sure. At Pro/Am or NPC only shows, the crowd is made up of mostly friends and family of the competitors. If the lion's share of those are Fig, then the ticket sales are generated by them.

you might have been saved a bit, but this always seem to come up with womens bodybuilding, there has to be some changes made for survivability

FBB got to where it is via judging. If it is to change, that's where it will have to be done, and consistently. They are currently trying to change the look of Figure, but it is not yet consistent there. Actually, the look of men's BB seems to be favoring aesthetics more than mass as much these days somewhat as well. Only time will tell.

The females on stage today are more manly and probably have more testosterone than I do and that is what it turning people away from wanting to see them or so support them.
Until they fix that, they will never be able to survive and throwing money at the problem will not fix it. It will only just slow the death of that image which is being rejected for good reason IMHO.
