Not a Morning Person??
I have some serious goals to meet in the next few months and in order to meet them I need to add an hour of cardio to my daily routine. Due to work/kids, my only time slot for this is early in the morning (5am). I figured this would be good since I have heard all the hype on how much better for you it is to do cardio in the morning anyway. (I usually do cardio and lifting in the PM)
Well, yesterday was my first day. I gave it all I had at 5am, which was not much, and I seriously had to lay down for like 30 minutes. I was almost late to work :-| My head was very cloudy and hurt, my body felt weird and I was nauseous.
My question is, is this just a hump I have to get over, or did I do something wrong? Should I have eaten first? I am wondering if I am just not a good morning workout person. Is that possible? Aside from the feeling of death creeping up on me, I didn't seem to have the energy to give it my full effort. Can I still benefit from a half ass workout? I am thinking, why bother, but I have been wrong before.
Thoughts please.

I wouldn't want to tell you its just your body getting use to the morning and have you go through nausea for a month before you tell me to shove off. But I get up a 5am M-F because thats the only time I can squeeze in workouts. I have been doing them for about 4 months now and it has gotten ALOT easier for me over the weeks. At first the hardest part was dragging my behind out of bed and making it up to the gym at that time(Mondays are still hard) but once I get up there i'm usually good. I don't eat anything before I go up there but I know people who grab an apple or banana on the way up so they're not working out on an empty stomach. One word of advise though is make sure your going to bed early (i'm out by 9:30 usually).
In a nutshell it was just a hump for me. I love getting in there early now. Makes me feel better for the rest of the day.

The only workout that I have been able to do in the morning is my cardio. generally I walk outside, I just can't get myself in gear to do a weight workout in the morning.

5am is killer. I know I wouldn't have the intestinal fortitude to pull it off, so you're already better than I am just for trying!
Maybe grab something caffeinated, and/or a small breakfast item (handful of almonds or something?) before you go, so you're not dizzy due to hunger/sleepiness.

I forgot to mention that in my OP. I did drink a large cup of highly caffeinated coffee. I actually thought this might have been part of the problem and was going to try again + small food item - coffee.

Hmm.. that could be it too: too much caffeine + no food! Let us know how round #2 works out.
