I ate 1 decent meal a day and the rest was just meh. I got way bigger while getting leaner, when I came back everyone was like "wtf happened to you?!"

My point? Supps and diet are mostly overrated.[/QUOTE]

Supps are way overrated!

Diet is not...but multiple people on this site have shown that the only real factors necessary in a diet for bodybuilding are adequate protein and watching calorie intake (either increase or decrease based on goal)

Nutrient timing, %'s of carbs/fat, pre/post nutrition, I think are "bonuses" meaning they may help A LITTLE but are deffinately not necessary to build a good body.

um check this out prison powerlifting meet http://www.powerliftingwatch.com/node/4312

seriously they have so much time to lift and rest
they can have their family bring them food and supps if they want..u know that right? they arent limited to ONLY those 3 meals if they want more they can get more if they got people on the outside who will help them

Just the whole eatin 5-6meals is not necessary meal timiing is preference
Getting ur protein intake at 1g per lb is a good guideline to follow just to make sure u get enough.but i havent seen proof that .75g per lb would be any less effective
Basically work hard in the gym and monitor ur protein/cal intake--u need a surplus to grow and a deflict to lose that's fact

Well most are locked up serving 10-15 year sentences, have plenty of time to sleep and recover. They don't use fancy gym equipment just a lot of bench press punching bags, and chin ups. Proper sleep is key IMO. Protein shakes are overrated I think.

yes they are they are just a convienece--a quick source of protein though whey shakes get 100% absorbed or almost 100% by the blood stream and used up compared to say chicken which 80% is absorbed, but still
Chicken and brown rice postworkout ftw!

I actually think this is a really good thread. Maybe it will finally open some eyes to people on here that you dont have to have food every 2 hrs to gain. My cousin went to prison for 2 years and came out absolutely huge. He was skinny with practically no muscles at all. He came out over 200lbs with very low body fat (very visible 6 pack). He said he just had nothing else to do and just ate evertyhing that they gave him. He also said he did a lot of pullups. You can also have money in prison and save it and buy certain things (different types of food). I think some people think that prison is just you sitting in a cell all day but you would be shocked at the amount of stuff you can do, especially if after the first couple months you show that you have decent behavior.

I know for a fact they do. A friend of mine went in skinny as **** and came out big as **** and I've known or known of several others who went in skinny or fat and came out big.

It pretty much is. It's just that protein requirements have been exaggerated and made up by protein companies. There isn't a single study that shows that you need 1.5g/lb or even 1g/lb. You can even make gains on .6g/lb (although it's probably not optimal). Working out, calorie surplus, and sufficient protein intake (.7-.9g/lb) is all you need.

because if here is 17 he has not been there. 17 yr olds do go to prison but they dont come out that age. I didnt mean he doesnt knows anything about life but he know nothing about prison. You can know all the people you want who have been there but you have no idea until you experience it

Was he pushed to lift after rape attempts or rape? (serious)

I'm not sure if that was sarcasm or not. I'm just letting you know there are things you can do other than lift weights or "be someone's bitch"

I am an intern in a prison, and there are some pretty jacked up guys in there. How they do it? Not 100% sure on that one.

Our prison does not have any free weights what so ever, a lot of prisons have gotten rid of all free weights. Right now all the offenders have are machines, and its very easy to top out on all the machines. I mostly see offenders doing pushups and pullups in their cells on the bars, its weird. I would say that it is mostly genetic when it comes down to it.

As for the 3 meals a day, this is all they get that is provided by the prison, they still get what they call canteen which is where they can purchase grocerys and other stuff that is authorized by the prison. Basically each inmate has an account that they use to buy extra food and supplies so they can def get adequate calories to grow this way so thats not an issue. A lot of the guys that you see that are jacked in prisons, were jacked before they got there, so I think they basically get enough stimulus from the little that there able to do to maintain that muscle or at least most of it and a lot of them do eat a lot more then you think, 3 meals provided for free + whatever they buy through canteen def gives enough calories.

I also ate in a weird way... the warrior diet caught my interest so I used it ( fast all day , FEAST at night). I tried this for a period of 30 days or so. 340 push ups a day ( deck of cards, place a deck in front of me, flip the card, says 9 do 9.. etc. kings, queens, jacks, whatever are 10 and so on.. sometimes I'd double it, doing 9 and 9, 3 and 3 etc. for a total of 700 or so push ups a day) 100 pull or chin ups and 100 reps for abs.

The results are in my photo album.. sure not the biggest guy but it's the sole result of this program, plus 10 sets of deadlifts every wednesday.

I basically just fasted all day then ate whatever I wanted at night, protein, carbs etc. relatively clean. I have always be in interested in going farther with less, doing more with less and being strong with very little.... I think the guys in prison get so jacked because training with only weights and crap to eat, you have to listen to your body.. when to back off and when to go all out and lift til your eyes explode, then rest.. do it again!

(-:

the military is the same, nothing but MREs, sodium, starch induced food combined with intense training, of course you will make gains. I once knew a kid that ate nothing but pizza pockets and red bulls, he was strong as an ox, 5'8 200 lbs. solid.. go figure. The only thing he ever did was deadlifts and military presses...

I'm buying a deck of cards to try this out. You think it'd be ok if I did it between working out and dinner, or between dinner and bed? I seriously plan to buy a deck of cards, and I have a doorway pull up bar (much nicer than iron-gym, much wider grips). I used to do 9x8 pull ups every day working out and I noticed my back getting shredded. However, I haven't done that in a while, and I doubt my workout partner is down to do this everyday. So I figure I'll do it at home every other day.

HHmmm.. that's very strange. I was about to start this back up again. Honestly, you really can do this ANYTIME of the day but I prefer to do it before work. And instead of doing the standard way of doing it ( flip a card, says 7 do 7, I decided to double it instead.. say, 7 on the top side of the card, then 7 on the bottom etc.) You could also do this.. rack out the cards in order of 'sets', sets of hearts, clovers etc. by 10, 9, 8, 7, 6,queens (10 reps), 5, jacks, 4,kings, 3,aces, 2,1 , jokers ( 10 reps). You could also just shuffle it when you find that it's too easy. Also elevate your feet, alter rep speed, do them fast, do them super slow etc.

Patience is the key. First day, you'll whine, question 'why' you are doing it.. you might even quit only halfway though , despite doing it for an entire hour with minimal rest. Been there done that lol. Just stick to it for a week or so until you get the groove of things to see if it's for you. You HAVE TO do it everyday in order to get used to it.Yeah, yeah. It's 'catabolic' will scream the 'experts', it's only for endurance, it won't build muscle yadda yadda yadda.. if it's good enough for the military and isolated convicts, then it's good enough for me! lol.

The only drawback is that if you do this workout, you will pretty much limited to only squats, deadlifts or power cleans for your weight workouts, because they will interfere with this routine.

push ups ( diamond or on knuckles)
100 pull or chin ups
100 crunches/leg lifts

you could do it monday through friday, or even everyday for that matter.

IMO it'll build a physique that's not really huge and bulky but will build a tough lean dense foundation which you can later build on. Hershel walker did the same and was also one of my inspirations for trying it out.

PS
if you do the work, you will get the results- plain and simple. The main reason I liked the routine so much was that it really took the guess work out of it. Yeah, it'll get boring and you'll question it on days where you are like 'blah!' more push ups! lol.

the best job in prision is to work in the kitchen making food. I know a guy who was in prision, worked in the kitchen and got to sneak food back to cell or just eat there. Workout whenever he wanted in his cell (push up, pullup, abs) and just slept
