advice for aspiring figure/fitness competitors

I have always been active in mutiple sports, soccer, track, cheerleading, swimming... and so on. I currently play collegiate soccer. I just started dabbling into weight lifiting recently and really love it.I have been doing a beginning 9 week program that I found in muscle and fitness. I have seen some really good results so far and I am really excited about it. I want to continue with what I am doing and aspire to take it to the next level and compete.

the only draw back is that I am having difficulty finding information on the subject. since I am starting out on my own and know no one who has been interested in this area of expertise.

I just started a cutting cycle a week ago, and I am just eating low calorie foods, trying to avoid most fats, and consume more protien.I keep a food journal and log all of my entires on to dailyplate.com to keep count.

I guess what I really need to know is how I can take it to the next level or find the right people to to talk too.
I wouldnt be opposed to hiring a trainer, I just need to know if thats is what I need to do.
if you have competed before, or just have any advice in general, then I would really appreciate it.

thanks for your time

God Bless,

Jordan Meyer

You should absolutely hire a trainer...someone who specializes in nutrition and has experience in helping competitors prep for the stage. Nutrition is the most important part, it will make you or break come show time.

Good luck!

I'm not sure whether you already know all of this but you sound exactly like I did 3 years ago when I started my journey. I can say that I've learnt a lot over the last 3 years through research by websites, magazines and dvd's. I could never really afford a personal trainer so I basically got all my knowledge this way. You can never do enough research. It's your best key to getting all the rights and wrongs about the body building industry. I have the following few tips ?

Don't be afraid to go heavy, but bear in mind that you always need to stay in control of whatever exercise it is that you doing. Concentrate on training two muscle groups per day, doing 4 to 5 exercises per muscle group that you are training. Stick between 10 to 12 reps and 3 sets of each exercise. I wouldn't stress too much about cardio right now as you are already active in your soccer. Make sure to get at least 2 days of complete rest per week.

You have a great physique and really good genetics. Trust me girl, I didn't look like you when I first started. Things have changed quite a bit for me in the last three years. I can recommend that you concentrate on getting those calves pumped and getting some definition in your chest at this stage. The rest of your body is looking great!! Your arms rock!! You can only improve from here onwards.

I'm sure you know by now that protein is important ? especially straight after training weights. I can recommend that you try to invest in a good protein supplement and cutting formula. Take this religiously to help you with your goals.

Take one day at a time and try eat 80% clean. You'll start seeing results soon 

Good luck!!

I would caution you to make sure you're eating enough..you're young, very active and have a lot of muscle already..what are your current macros?

KIMM4,

thanks for all the info StephDJ.

I do try for 2 days rest a week, and for the program I am doing I usually go to the gym 4 days a week twice for arms, back, and chest and twice for legs, calves and abbs. it seems to be working out pretty good for now.

thanks for the compliments, I am very flattered. I am drinking some protien right now, I take it often. sometimes as meal replacements when I dont really have time to eat and especially right after I workout. I am currently using max muscle triple whey and it seems to be pretty nice.

I am not taking a cutting formula though... what exactly is that?

twinnett,

these are my macros for a lower carb day,

calories sugar carbs fat protein cholesterol sodium dietary fiber

1402 12g 54g 21g 214g 550mg 1040g 7g

and these are my macros for a higher carb day,

Calories Sugars Carbs Fat Protein Cholesterol Sodium dietary fiber

1,718 28g 89g 49g 247g 825mg 2,306m 13g

thanks for the website, I'll have to check it out. thanks for all the help guys. I really appreciate your time.

God Bless,

Jordan Meyer
