Wow, the reason I started this thread was to share some of the funny things I see in the gym. Usually, I see these things while doing cardio.(and no, I'm not a cardio bunny!) The TV is boring, so it's funny to see what other people do in the gym.
my motivation and routine are in check and my priorities are in order. I'm not perfect like you seem to think you are since you only go into the gym, lift, and leave.

Hi OP! I wouldn't take it too personally--some people just take themselves way too seriously!
Oh..this morning...well, let me start by saying that, I, too am against the girls wearing just their sport bras...but come on, if you're so sweaty you just *have* to take off your shirt..please, please make sure that your're sports bra gives appropiate support AND is not thin white cotton...for goodness sakes. Talk about leaving nothing to the imagination.
2 things that make this even worse 1. the sports bra that has been washed numerous times and was thinning to the point that one more wash could cause holes...2. the girl comes out of spinning class and preceeds to walk around the entire weight room several times (no, no sets here people) before walking the long way around to the locker room....so she wanted people to see her this way?!!? Crazy I tell you.

ignore it, lol
I people watch - at the gym, the mall, everywhere! It's interesting to see what other do, wear, behave. lol. Part of the human condition is to observe others actions, otherwise we would not have society or socialization.

I have never seen this woman at the gym, but my husband and his buddies have. I just get to hear the stories, and they are funny.. so I'll share them with you. She might be booted from the gym for all I know by now.
She comes to the gym in regular clothes, and with a man that doesn't work out. He just stands by her the whole time she's there. I think it's a weird fetish thing, or something.
I guess she was doing back extensions and each time she went down he would proceed to smack her ass. They said he never smiled, just stood there and smacked it each time, lol.
Another time she comes in wearing a mini skirt, and works out in it. While she was laying on the bench one of the guys noticed she wasn't wearing undies.. wtf! It's bad enough to wear a mini skirt, but to not have on panties is disgusting. The guy that was telling my husband this also said she looked like she had never shaved anything down there either, lmaoooo. If you have some weird fetish you could at least make yourself more appealing to the men you're showing off for.

There's a guy who goes to the gym every other day, and all he does is cardio, not even running, just on the exercise bikes. The exercise bike he uses most of the time is next to most of the weight equipment. He think he's the absolute greatest human being to ever walk into a gym, so i saw a powerlifting friend of mine go in and start doing a couple reps at 180 and this kid yells (no sarcasm) "is that seriously all you can do?!" and starts laughing to himself looking at his muscles.
i later found out that he's never touched a bench in his life.

Yesterday, there were two Asian women that looked like sisters working out side by side together at the back extension and decline ab bench. Now, they both had beautiful dark waist-length hair that was not tied up. At the end of the motion, as one head went down, the other went up in like a rhythm. It seemed straight out of a shampoo commercial.

wow, I just had 1. Boggles the mind...
I'm doing french press with 25 # weights. My shoulder was messed up this week, so I'm really just watching my form so to avoid aggrovating it as it's almost 100% better.
Some parents are at the gym with their kids (gym is at work), I've never seen them before and I really did not expect this.
Their little girl goes running behind me off of the sit up rack going from 2 foot high to the ground right behind me while the Mom is a foot away just standing there form the top of the rack. I have my ipod ear plugs in and I was dumb founded.
I stopped, looked at her and said 'This weight is heavy, do you mind?'
I could just see this litle 4 year old hitting my knees, taking me down and then wth does the weight go?
I just spoke with a co-worker and the gym is 18 years and up, so I'm talking to my boss next time I see her, probably Tuesday. I don't want to bug her with an e-mail as she has a blackburry and it can wait.
I just cannot belive how stupid some parents are. Un****ing real.

I saw someone doing 'cardio' on the abductor/adductor machine yesterday...very low weight (she was moving it pretty easily) going at it for about 20 minutes straight while reading a book. I guess she knows what she's doing...but it was funny. I laughed. Inside.

I don't get the big deal about flip flops..? If you're not doing cardio.. meh?
I wouldn't wear them just for the tiniest bit more comfort I have to the thought of dropping a weight on them lol but really running shoes aren't steel toed boots so it's all mental really
The bare feet thing can be a problem with sanitation though.

maybe you're not dumb enough to drop a plate on your own feet ... but can you say the same for the rest of the population?
... this comment was left by someone who's had another gym-goer drop a 35lb plate on her pinky toe (the nail eventually grew back)
I advise against flipflops

I have two:
Guy 1: Grunts and makes faces the whole time he is in the gym. He's a pretty big guy and lifts some heavy weights, but why does he makes faces while turning the handle for the water fountain?
Guy 2: He would ride the bike every time he came to the gym. While he was riding the bike he would pump his fists in the air, make faces, and shout at himself. He always looked like he was on his way to winning the Tour de France even though he was riding a stationary bike.

Sure I wouldn't do it for that very reason but some people just seem so appalled at the idea of flip flops- I mean hey, it's their feet, maybe they like to live a life with risks lol

I saw two lately.
Guy - Standing in front of the mirror doing bicep curls. I couldn't see the poundage he was working with cuz his back was to me, but admittedly, it did look pretty heavy. But after every set, he'd throw the dumbbells on the floor and start yelling at himself in the mirror: "F*** YEAH! YOU LIKE THAT?! YOU WANT SOME MORE OF THAT?!" It was almost like he was psyching himself up/pep talking himself - but loud enough for the whole gym to hear. o_O
Girl - This tiny Asian girl was standing beside me doing bicep curls (what is it with this exercise?!) with 5 lb. weights and horrible form - her entire upper body was swaying back and forth. Anyways, she does about 4 reps and trots over to another mirror - only then did I notice her boyfriend - following her around and carrying her red leather heels. He wasn't working out - just there to carry her crap. I would think getting a lock for the locker would be a lot cheaper than a boyfriend. :P

In my two weeks of being at the gym so far, I haven't seen that much but I there has been some memorable moments.
A guy was doing dumbell presses, I think 50 lbs and after he finished his set he'd slap them on the floor, get up and start singing out loud his rap song. I too listen to rap sometimes while I workout, but he was singing it out loud. It was only my friend and I there and I believe his friend nobody else was near us so it was just a "look at that guy" type of moment. If there was any women around or something it'd be another story. (Lots of profanity)
I've seen this too a couple of times, two girls in very short shorts (woman's thread, I won't comment ) doing aerobic exercises, and as soon as one of their phones rang they would both get up and walk out and I wouldn't see them again until the next day.
I really hope someday I see someone do something like I seen in those youtube videos, that would be so epic.

I love this thread!!
I saw a man today in a full sweatsuit (which I would have a heat stroke in personally) - but he was jogging slowing on the treadmill holding on to the heart monitor. He was so stooped over, I wanted to stop and tell him how terrible that was for his back...but he seemed fine.
I never understand the people who work out in street clothes, jeans, khakis etc.
And I too had a "kids" issue the other day. Probably 9 or 10 year old standing on the lat pulldown bench and trying to grab it and jump off. Whoah!
Also, this isn't really that funny, but more strange. I saw a lady in the free weight section sitting on a weight bench crying her eyes out to one of the women who work in the gym. She's a regular, always comes in with hair and makeup perfectly done. Well, her makeup was running down her face and you could see her from every mirror angle. I had a few thoughts because first off...go to the bathroom if you are having a personal breakdown or maybe not sit on the weight bench while you do it. I *know* what some guys think of women being in "their area" - but crying!?! I kept thinking about that part in the Tom Hanks movie...there's no crying in baseball. Hon, no crying in the free weights!! I did feel bad for her though...

I have to agree.... you cant control what others do. You never know what may happen. You could be statnding in the wrong place at the wrong time and get a nice big plate dropped on your pretty little toes and then you'll be singin a different tune about wearing flip flops. Yeah wearing tennies it would still hurt just as much but at least you will still have a toe attached to you....LOL.

i used to work out a bit at the local campus gym. There was a rule no sports bras or cut off sleeve shirts allowed, everyone must have a shirt. But i dont understand when people work out in their jeans and then there would be a couple med students working out in their scrubs.
People who use machines imporperly. I'm a former rower, and there are few rowing machines,i always see people doing it wrong, sometimes i go and try to give an advice, because if you do it improperly, there is a big chance you might get your back messed up.
Guys who would be too stuck up too see a girl lifting weights ( I could definitely see that coz they would give me that look) as well as the ones that look in awe when I do a dealifts or RDL's,coz most of them do upper body stuff.
There was this guy who would always be at the gym the same time i was there and when i would do cardio he would get on the treadmill next to my,and everytime i would increase my speed,he would do the same thing, like he was competing with me or something. That would piss me off so much.
Right now I work out in a university's athletic department, where athletes lift ( if you was an athlete at the uniersity, you can use the facilities after you graduate) so it is so much better because everyone knows what they are doing. However I find it amusing when football players dance in between the sets, just busting out some random dance moves, but everyone lifts heavy.
Back in the days when i was lifting with my team, one of my teammates was doing lateral raises with a dumbells, the other teammate was walking by way too close, the dumbell hit her face and she was bleeding bad. There would also be some squating and farting going on.
I could think of so much more, but have to go workout now.Have a good day you all

Male in his mid-40s, lots of leg hair, white tube socks pulled up all the way and short polyester shorts-this guy cracked me up with his clothes. It kind of remided me of my dad!
Person 2:
petit girl, 10 tons of make up, tight wife beater shirt complete with black bra straps hanging out, sweats, and coach sneakers. She alternated between the ab machine and the treadmil (walking) in 5 minute intervals. It was very amusing to watch while doing cardio!
Person 3:
The guy with invisible muscle syndrome that was showing off to above mentioned girl. He was trying to show her how much he could squat. He went down to squat and farted so loud I heard it over my headphones...I seriously thought he crapped his pants! The girl literally ran from him after that!
Group of women-
this just annoyed me-a group of women, in their late 20s early 30s stood infront of the mirror near the weights pulling up their shirts and looking at their stomachs and their boobs...they weren't really out of shape, but it was distracting for everyone. The funny thing was that the entire time, I was there (and they got there after me) was that they didn't do anything except that!
Anyone else have anything funny/interesting that they've seen in the gym?

our guy is a mess
we have a guy we call the chicken.. he takes the resistance bands straps them to an open machine and begins flailing his arms up and down to "stretch" out his arms and back.... it is crazy... he makes ugly noises and the band just looks like it is going to go flying off the machine and whack him in the head....

no, I don't go the Y in Waipahu, but I can imagine it's horrible to go to. I work out on the Kunia base, which is a small base with a large civilian population and a large amount of military intel people. Military intel people are not the most fit bunch of people, so them at the gym is like the 100lbs guy that trys to play football with the big boys...it just doesn't work!
(I am prior military intel, so I can make fun of my own kind!)
Anyways, I didn't see this in a gym, but I was hiking a rather steep trail (diamond head, for the local hawaiians) and I saw an asian lady in wedge heels trying to hike it...she was walking slowly...I wonder why!
I'm heading to the guy in about an hous...I'm sure I'll see the weirdos come out!

I'm pretty positive this girl has an identical long lost sister who comes to the same gym I go to.

I cant believe no one has mentioned the stereotypical guy/gal that goes to the gym every single day, does the same routine everytime, and seems to make no progress over the course of months or even years. To think of all the progress that some of these people could have made in that time if they lifted/ate/cardio'ed right.
Some people i guess just dont have the genetics, but I cannot accept the fact that someone could make virtually no progress (judging by their weight/rep schemes and physique) over several months time.
