Nick, I am one of those Friday and Saturday night guys at the gym. Even last Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years and during the Superbowl I was at the gym. Dude I live for lifting and eating Organic foods and to have a healthy heart. I am always the last one to leave the gym. Living a clean life is great. Don't get me wrong I am not perfect I make mistakes. People look at me if I am crazy. Dude listen to this dedication or not. When the wife goes to sleep I go back to the gym sometimes at midnight. Stay healthy.
Richard

I lost my fiance ultimately because of my decision to live a cleaner lifestyle. I stopped drinking, smoking, pot, all that... she still wanted to go out and party and whatnot, ended up cheating on me and I found out. I still have problems dealing with that aspect of it, however I am happy to be clean and not have to worry about hangovers, smelling like an ashtray, etc anymore. I still go out from time to time with friends, I just drink water instead... have a good time, watch the stupid drunks fight and all that. It has been one of the best decisions I've made in my life, however the loss that came with it hurts deep to this day.

I very much respect straight-edge people and the determination it takes to stay that way and make great gains. However, to say that using recreational drugs and alcohol in moderation will demolish you gains is simply false. I know many successful bodybuilders who smoke a joint at night to ease their mind and get a good nights rest. For the alcohol, it's all about moderation...and drinking an extra gallon of water and an extra meal if you're going to drink.
So no hating at all, but straight edge people please try and keep your mind open to the lifestyles of other individuals, and the fact that they might work just as hard if not harder in the gym. Regardless of their recreational activities.
P.S. Vaporizers are a great alternative to smoking if you choose to use marijuana every now and then.

I'm amazed at the amount of people here that have admitted in taking drugs!
I've never taken bodybuilding or any other kind of drug, never smoked and hardly drink.
And I recon over the years it's held me in good stead!
I'm nearly 50, look a lot younger, muscular, lean and dependant on nothing, and feel great!
I love that, drugs other than medical reasons completely suck!

No. Straight Edge is a lifelong commitment to abstain from the use of alcohol, drugs and cigarettes and or promiscuous sex. You don't have to be a prior substance abuser or user in order to be able to claim edge. Just because you don't use substance doesn't make you straight edge. I'm not downing people who live a clean lifestyle but in order to be straight edge you have to claim it and make that commitment. Like I said no hate at all for people who are just "drug free" maybe straight edge isn't for you, who knows.

Nick I start out drug free as everyone did but then I got tired of how all the pro's where getting 30 lbs. of muscle slab on there body and no matter how hard I trained I can trained harder because I am not on steriods. I feel into the trap and start considering steriods and reading everything about it. But I got my senses back and got my ass up and construct an plan that will get me there in reality not some dream world. Bodybuilding is hard. Not only do you change your diet and workout hard but your put your whole life into it. You spend all your income on the supplements and the food and non of my friends will ever understand that. I feel so lonely a lot of times. No one will get me on that stage and no one will get me that first place win. No one but me.

I've somehow managed to stay clean my whole life. Never had a drink or a puff (nope, not even once), and have never tried anything harder than creatine in my bodybuilding. I feel fortunate in the fact that having gotten into bodybuilding at 16-17 years old, I managed to steer myself clear of all the trouble most guys go through in their journey through life. I've never been the party guy, and believe if I stay hard enough on myself, life will be worth that much more to me. I have a lot of goals in life, and find that my being strict on myself in my bodybuilding, has made it easier to tackle other challenges in life. Already at 29, I own a business that produces and distributes products that I personally research, develop, and prototype, worldwide.
Tough on myself and proud of it...some think I'm missing out on the better things in life...I just tell them I am awake and empowered enough to enjoy the truly great things in life. It's great knowing I'm not alone!
By the way, for those who think it can't be done without the juice...I began bodybuilding weighing in at under 125 lbs at age 17...grew up being the smallest kid in school and always the one who was picked on. It was so bad my dad had taught me at a very early age some tricks to protect myself since I was so small and weak from my severe childhood asthma.

I'm new to the forum as of January '09, and I've been looking for a group like this. I'm a lifetime natural bodybuilder and "Straight Edge" in life as well. I want to be here and healthy for my wife and son for as long as possible, and as a P.E. teacher & coach, I want to be a role model for all of my students. It's good to hear that there are others out there livin' the life.

I've gone straight edge!
Minor Threat! I've been drug/alcohol free for over three years now. Drugs, alcohol, and cigarettes are toxic to me and I sacrifice anything from my life that is toxic to me.

Still edge here. Don't claim it crazily like I used to, but I don't use anything and have no desire to anytime in the future.

Straight Edge
I am a senior in high school and have never touched drugs or alcohol. This was a choice I made a long time ago and one I plane on applying throughout my life. Though I have made this decision and try to influence persons around me the drug and alcohol use is unbelievable! I look around and listen to my peers talk about their weekends, what they?re going to do after school, and think, HOW STUPID ARE ALL OF YOU! When I?m walking down the hallway and hear someone being asked, ?Hey what are you doing tonight?, response, ?Playing beer pong?, the only thing I can think is ITS TUESDAY! This is why I have chosen to live a drug free/straight edge lifestyle; because I look at others, who have not made this choice and try, try not, to think about where these kids are going to wined up someday.
When deciding whether or not to be start edge, ask yourselves; How have drugs ever positively effected your life?

I am straight edge all the way. My friends are all partying it up and I'm in the gym doing work. The satisfaction that comes from bodybuilding, even at this young age, is amazing. I'm trying to get to the point where I can compete either this year, in a lighter division, or next year in a hopefully heavier division.

You've seen people get tattoos removed with a cheese grater because they swerved from the sXe path? That's ****ing disgusting and the fact that you don't seem to have a problem with it says a lot about the sXe 'movement'.
How about trying to help the people that did it...or how about letting them live their lives and not forcing your beliefs on them. Because that's exactly what they're doing.
I also love the completely superior attitude by everyone in this thread. The most hilarious thing about it is people getting violent / assaulting people that do do drugs as if it affects them. Again, ****ing disgusting.
You say you can't stand people that force their beliefs on others but have no problems with people getting tattoos forcibly removed by cheese graters?
--
No hate against people that choose to live a drug free life style but MAD hate against people that claim to be 'mentally strong' etc and still can't handle other people making their own decisions so they have have to lash out violently.
I'd like to see an actual response to this post and not just a GTFO but most peope can't actually back up anything they say so I'm expecting to be disapointed.

Glad to see that there are so many of you out there and congrats to the thread creator who is a perfect example of the results of a clean, positive, healthy lifestyle.
I'm in bodybuilding/fitness for the positive ramifications and results and hence utilizing "unnatural" products and living a lifestyle that does not multiply these results seems counterproductive to me. I want to be able to lift when I am 95. I've never touched drugs and never smoked a cigarette, never used illegal substances for bodybuilding... I will have a glass of red wine every now and then (maybe once or twice a week), but I emphasize A GLASS... not even close to enough to get tipsy or drunk or tipsy or whatever. I actually drink red wine for the positive health benefits.
My sincerest admiration to everyone who has decided to follow this path...

I played sports all my life...baseball in college...couldn't get clean. Found the Lord, found bodybuilding, found my fiance...I am turned off and tuned out from alcohol and drugs now. Other than supps/caffeine, the only thing that goes in my body is 7 feedings a day. Congrats to all you.

Buddy. You're angry about a movement that has little to do with this thread. Sometimes people are dealt difficult situations and it takes a lot of effort and even multiple events to get out. No one here thinks anyone should undergo some form of punishment for their struggles and/or choices. Life is rough. Those of us who have experienced rough things know that because we've been there. I agree with you that no one is better than anyone else, but it is necessary for us to celebrate what we've gone through and risen above together. Life is hard, we're all in it together bro. That's why 90% even picked up a dumbbell in the first place.

I have given up drinking wine or any form of alcohol, coffee, tea as i found it messes with insulin/cortisol.....the death hormones. Also i dont take pro-hormones or roids, but may take roids in 3 or 4 years depending on what my goal is.
Hoping for results from this new way of thinking.

straight-edge is way to go
ha, what a perfect thread. i used to get exremely f*cked up, and not just weed and stuff, but hard drugs that you end up physically needing every day in order to just function like a normal person. I completely stopped working out and lived a junkie lifestyle. Now I have almost six months totally clean, not even weed or alcohol and the gym and my job basically are my entire daily routine. well, and my girl, but that's another story. Anyways, take it from somebody who has lived healthy, then lived the craziest f*ckin drugged out lifestyle ever, then gone back to healthy and clean again: drugs can be a LOT of fun, i do not deny this, but in the end, they will always lead to destruction and/or death. matter of fact, I really shouldn't be alive, but that again is another story. I have changed my entire lifestyle and i am the happiest I have ever been in my life, and I am respected and trusted by my peers. I take life in short strides and live day to day, while at the same time keeping positive goals and plans for my future. This is the path i will walk for the rest of my life... one of strength, faith, belief, health, integrity, courage, wisdom, and responsibility. that's why i have SALVATION tatted on my wrist, where i can see it every day.. means "SALVATION from the Lord; DELIVERED from evil and poison." AMEN to that sh*t
