question on lt (low intensity) cardio 120 bpm
ok so i read that lt (low intensity) cardio at 120 bpm is better for burning fat. i have been doing this. at first i was jogging 4 miles at 7.5 mph around 160 bpm and burning over 400 cal. doing this lt 120 bpm makes me have to walk around 2 - 2.5 mph. i dont hardly even sweat and only burn around 150 cal. i do cardio at the end of my work out for around 45 min. Is this slow walk really going to be giving me better results as far as loosing wait?

I'm a fan of intensity. If you can sustain 160bpm for over half an hour, I'd do that... As long as the exercise is aerobic you'll burn fat, but that higher heart rate is gonna be way better for cardiovascular health.

No. Calories burned is more important. Go back to running and burning 400 cals.

where do you get your facts from, the back of a cracker jack box? totally unfounded.
more intense cardio will burn more fat. if you can find a middle ground between 120 and 16 i'd say aim for that for most and finish up around 150+ for the last few minutes.

It has been proven that while low intensity cardio will burn more calories (mainly due to the length of time ususally given to it), HIIT will burn a greater percentage of fat than low intensity. Also, a great way to increase fat loss is to complete HIIT at the most ideal times; doing HIIT in the morning or after a lifting session when glycogen levels are low will help you burn a greater amount of fat.

I keep my cardio to low intensity. I speed walk at about 3.5 MPH--never break 140 - 145 BPS

here we go with some more information regurgitation.
i have been doing relatively high intensity cardio for over a year and have gained muscle. put that in your pipe and smoke it. as long as you're eating a good amount of protein and still have a good amount of fat to burn, you're not going to start burning muscle like there's no tomorrow or something.

Strong anger, brah. Calm the f*ck down.
Anyone can argue both sides of the matter. And that article you posted pretty much confirms what everyone else is saying. Intense cardio = less calories burned from fat. U mad?

did you even read the article? nowhere does it say that, as a matter of fact:
Quote:
Low Intensity Workout vs. High Intensity Workouts
Low Intensity Workout:
50% MHR = 7 calories per minute
90% of those calories are burning fat tissue
vs.
High Intensity Workout:
75% MHR = 14 calories per minute
60% of those calories are burning fat tissue
From the above figures, it appears that you burn more fat tissue when working at a lower intensity (90% vs. 60% from fat tissue), but these numbers are misleading.
Lets look at them another way:
Low Intensity Workout:
90% x 7 calories per minute = 6.30 fat calories burned per minute
High Intensity Workout:
60% x 14 calories per minute = 8.40 fat calories burned per minute
After you do the math, you can see that you burn a greater amount of fat tissue calories from a high intensity workout than a low intensity workout (8.4 vs. 6.3 calories burned per minute).

and that's the truth: period.

I totally agree with the short-high intensity workouts, just as long as you are not doing it every day, and filling the other days in your week with lifting with a good diet
high intensity will definitely make you more lean at the end of the week, without the worry of crazy muscle loss.
Again, there is a reason why sprinters and short distance runners are built and long distance runners are skinny.

Hm, to do low-intensity cardio and sacrifice a measly 2 calories per minute while enjoying my cardio routine, or to do high-intensity cardio and burn an extra 2 calories per minute while hating my cardio routine. Which is more likely to cause you to quit all together? Your argument that burning an extra 2 calories a minute is a good thing holds no weight. 2 calories is nothing.
I'd rather sacrifice 2 calories a minute from fat and enjoy my work outs than burn an extra 2 calories a minute and hate my work outs.
And I don't want to hear "well, I've gained muscle from doing intense cardio!" Until you have an impressive physique, I'll take anything you have to say with a grain of salt.

well, give me enough time and i will have an impressive physique, i mean, i did start out at 330lbs. bottom line is to burn the calories i burn in a half hour doing higher intensity cardio, i would have to do low intensity for around an hour and a half. do you think i feel like doing that? **** no.
i had an infrared body fat scan when i started this and i had 180lbs of muscle. recently i got scanned again and now i have 205lbs of muscle. so i have lost around 100lbs of fat since i have lost 805 overall and gained 25lbs of muscle. sounds like proof to me
the main key is that people are *doing* cardio. otherwise, your weight loss will take forever and a day.

Hey,
I think its best to mix it up. Do high intensity after your workouts, and low intensity a couple other days, or switch every other day or every week. I usually do HIIT one week after weights and the next week I do LISS after weights.
