This is my first post, I think. I started lifting again about a year ago and have gone through a ton of phases like just to be healthy, lets see if the old dog can still hunt, wow I'm getting pretty big, and Its been a year shouldnt I have shed more fat than this. A year ago I was 224 with no muscle tone and now I'm 233 with some pretty hard lumps under the fat. Surely I gained more than 9 pounds of muscle in a year, right?

Sounds like your pretty strong benching 325+ . You might want to try and cut a little and add some sort of fat burner into your routine. I tried Controlled Labs REDuction samples and they were pretty good. Some guys I work with that are trying to cut use Hot Roxx and Hydroxy cut. That way you can burn some fat away and see some muscles.

Smile

I am 48 years old. I got a great deal on a complete olympic weight set and dumb bells. I finally started using them in January. I started at 212 lbs. I am currently about 197. I am lifting 3 days a week and watching my intake with Fitday. I was using the Fitday.com site and was impressed enough that I decided to buy the software. I never thought I would count calories, but it is really easy this way. It has shown me which foods I should quit eating and which are helpful. I am trying to get below 180 lbs my May 11th (wedding anniversary). At 179 lbs, I will officially not be overweight anymore. I don't expect 6-pack abs, but tight would be great.

This is a great site with a really helpful bunch of people. I look forward to working with you and sharing experiences.

Talking My first 6 months

Hello all.. obviously first post and have been lifting for six months. I hadnt been in a weight room since playing high school basketball until the end of last August. I'll be 40 in just a short time and my wife and I joined a gym together where I played ball and she ran on the treadmill. We started lifting and been hooked since. I'm the classic ectomorph at 6'2" and had hovered around 155lbs my entire adult life. Once I decided to take the weights more seriously I've changed my dietary habits dramatically and have been getting good results. I've supplemented so far with just cytogainer, BCAAs, glutamine and just started creatine and Universal M stak this past January. I'm up to 179lbs currently which for me is a huge change with a somewhat realistic goal of 190 before 2010. I realize the past months are basically just building enough strength to actually start to really lift. I'm certain all of you have great advice and I look forward to hearing it and picking your brains. Thanks so much for this age group forum and all your future help!!!!

This looks like a pretty good forum, fellas. At 45, I'm trying to recapture a little glory, but I am realistic. Have gone from 6' 198 to 185 this year so far, and with an expanded ab routine, have observed the first semblance of a 6 pack (outside the fridge) I've seen in 15+ years!

Have also bought some pretty good used commercial equipment over the last 4 or 5 months, so my commitment is really firming up.

Question Hardgainer 49

Hi people, I'm a first timer. I'm 49yrs old, 5' 8" and 142 lbs. Yes I'm a Hardgainer. Usually it's 10 lbs. over the Holidays but, this time it was 16 lbs. I got up to 158 lbs !!! It don't sound like much but on me can't tie my shoes. I know hardgainer's shouldn't cardio when trying to gain mass but I felt I had to be in shape. My wife of 30yrs and I started a cardio routine Jan 4th, and I ran 3 miles this morning before church, I'm ready!!! I've got the eating down with the salmon, chick., steak, whey protein, good carbs. and creatine. I need help with supplement's. I'm not a pill poping kind of guy. Can any one help me please!!!

I'm Back!!!!

I'm a new poster, but not new to the sport and I'm back after my longest lay off. I biked well into the fall and I've kept up on my cardio, so I'm starting back up at a base weight of 170 lbs, (I'm 5'6") which is what I weighed when I started in my twenties. I peaked out at about 206 in my early 30s and stayed at between 188-195 throughout my mid 40s until I blew a shoulder out. Now I'm back, living the whole lifestyle at age 50, keeping my diet strict and my training regimen and goals realistic. I was always an easy gainer, so It should be interesting to see where this journey takes me.

OMG another noob!

Hi everyone!

Yes, it's my first post here at BB.com. I'm happy to have found this community, as I have been wondering whether older guys could really change their bodies that drastically. After seeing several of the transformations, though, I am inspired!

I've been fat nearly all my life. After hitting 40, I felt much older than my actual age. I just figured that that is what life dealt me, and that's what it's going to be. Over the next 4 years, I managed to keep putting on fat until I was up to 245 in 2008. In October of that month, I finally decided to make an effort to lose some weight, simply to be able to fit back into my other clothes. I had dropped 45 pounds once before in 1998, so I knew I could do it again. I did Atkins for a while, and was not very strict about it during the holidays. I managed to drop 15 pounds by the end of the year.

In January, I decided that I would really push myself to see how far I could go before my 45th birthday in August. I knew that I couldn't stay on Atkins forever, and I also knew that I had to do more than just the walking I was doing for exercise.

I joined a gym, and started workout out 3 days a week. I was just doing basic machine exercises, trying to guess on what muscle groups I was working. I found that I really liked the gym (endorphins? Hey, I like!), but I wanted to make my workouts worthwhile. I started searching for both basic beginner exercises and a different eating plan (because the no-carb was starting to get to me).

And then I found BodyBuilding.com.

I was initially overwhelmed by A) the amount of information here and B) my total lack of knowledge. I am currently moving from the "unconscious incompetence" stage to the ""conscious incompetence" stage -- I now kow that I don't really know much, and I have a lot to learn.

I reviewed several diets of the "over 40" transformers, and settled on a basic one that is similar to a low carb diet. When I was doing Atkins, I took multi-vitamins twice a day; I'm staying with that for now. I am ready (and rather eager) to start the lifestyle change for eating. I've already been using FitDay, and it opened my eyes about a few of the foods I was eating.

Since I wasn't sure as to what types of lifting I should be doing, I am also starting the 12 Week Video workout program here on the site. This will give me a good starting education and help me understand WHY I'm doing certain exercises.

I am really excited to be here! My expectations are not out of line for what I want to do: take daily steps to stay healthy the rest of my life. I don't expect to ever compete, as I am on testosterone replacement therapy and I am assuming I wouldn't be allow to, but I would like to experience what it's like to have real muscle with < 10% bodyfat.

Thanks!!

- Dan

Hey Danzilla...

Maybe we can meet in the middle weight-wise before we both turn 45. How's 200lb sound?? I know I'd dig it....

GOOD LUCK!

Hi Everyone. Nice to see lots of new people on here! I see lots of eager people looking to better their lives and feel younger. It really is inspiring to see all of us over 35'ers willing to pat each other on the back and offer words of encouragement. I usually just find little motivators here and their to keep my interest. It can be getting a new whey or pre-workout supplement or looking at an actor I admire. For instance, Daniel Craig from the new James Bond movies has been pretty inspiring for me! That man is in great shape! Either way, hope everyone achieves their fitness physique they are looking for this year! Cheers everyone and stay ripped. :-)

I'm on other forums but very new here. I'm 54, located on Long Island, NY. I haven't lifted in 10 years due to injuries and life getting in the way. I'm also dealing with old injuries from a car accident so I have to be a little careful with some exercises.

I joined a gym on 1/01/09, been going 4 x a week. Doing cardio and all the machines, adding weight all the time. I've gone from 245 to 233 lbs already and am building muscle and eating clean.

I wanted to introduce myself here. I'm new here as well. I am 35 now, will be 36 this year. I have been trying to get active again over the past two years. I am amazed by lifting weights, and have had personal training on the basics as to get the proper form and get started. Hopefully, as I progress, I will learn more and be better for it. Right now, I want to work on losing some fat while learning to lift. I am 5'1", fluctuate between 111 and 114 pounds. This board looks like it is great for inspiration, motivation and information.

I'm back

Work intensity distracted me from the gym some time ago, but I'm back at it again.

35, 5'10", hovering near 200, starting with an aggressive cut, as I need to get rid of this fat. Targeting around 1800cal/day, 40/30/30. Pretty much endomorph.

I lift heavy 3x a week, and do cardio around 3x a week, alternating days.

I have a new obsession about fitness and recomposing my body, and I'm hoping to ride that energy for quite some time, perhaps even hiring a coach to be more efficient. It's great to have this forum to learn from, even though the volume of posts makes it hard to keep up.

But wow, some of the transformations I've seen here are something else. I hope I can do the same..

Hello all! I'm 37 years old 6'1", 233 lbs. I joined this wonderful site to see what I can learn from others. I feel like I have learned a ton and actually have dialed in a pretty nice eating schedule. I supplement with ON Whey, ON CGT-10, DHEA, and ON Casein.

My goal is to drop to 10% or less body fat from probably 22% right now--and to potentially compete in 3 years if I start hitting my extreme goals. Right now, my main focus is my legs......I am a hard-gainer when it comes to legs, not to mention a childhood injury that has left me with a 3/4" pelvic tilt.

Looking forward to mature interaction with some good people like yourselves!

Angry You ever have one of those feelings..

Ever have one of those feelings of, I guess, no accomplishment. It's just been ratger hard lately. I am busting my ass, feel like I am doing good, but I look in the mirror and it seems like a waste. I did so good for a while. Been going at it almost 18 months. Started at 186.5 with 26.5 BMI; got down to 158 with 16.8 BMI. Now, back up to 173, but I have not had a BMI done lately. DOn't need to. The gut is back. I almost had the cut in the abs, then pooff, it was gone. Gut came back, and I haven't stopped working out. Diet not the best, but I havn't really changed much, and is till better than 18 months ago. Belive me, I have the motivation and drive, but it is hard not seeing it anymore. I know I have gained some muscle mass, but I don't feel enough to justify the weight. Had a little more definition too, but it is fadeing away. Anybody else gone thorugh this before?

New in this section, anyway. I'm 35, 122 lbs, 26% body fat. Spent most of my adult life at about 105 until I had some medical issues for which I had to take prednisone. Gained 15 lbs and unfortunately my love of junk food is keeping me from losing it. Trying to absorb a little more self-discipline.

RPM and DTH should I use Prime along with this?

I am new to this forum and I am not even sure if it is here that I would ask a question but I would like a response from anyone. I am 42 years old and I am currently using RPM, and Diesel Test Hardcore. I am thinking of buying USPlabs Prime. Is it a good idea to use Prime along with RPM and DTH? Would I get man boobs? Would it be too much testosterone in my body?? Advice would be appreciated.

Add me to the list of newbies. I've been trolling around a bit, and love all the info on the forums.

A little about me: I'm 48 and have lifted on and off for many years. I'm currently in my third year of membership in the gym I'm at, and have done only isolation exercises - one body part a day - for a while. Using the advice I've gleaned here, I'm now lifting 2 or 3 times a week, doing mostly compound exercises. My legs are pretty thin - I've done leg press for a while with little or no success, so I just started doing BB squats on a squat rack. I can only squat 135 at this time (not even close to what I can bench), so I'm pretty pathetic, lol.

Smile A few months over 35 and adjusting

Its time to be honest with myself. My body just doesn't work like it used to. I have seriously had to adjust how I eat and exercise in the last few years, and I believe it is mostly because even at 35 my body has changed and aged. The comments in this thread are very helpful. What I have learned so far since I passed through my peak physical years. 1.Everything hurts more now. 2.I just can't eat everything I want to anymore. 3.I seem to need to exercise twice as hard now to keep the weight off and to actually body build. 4. Heart health, blood pressure, cholesterol, and long term health are much more important to me now than being buff. Not looking forward to the years ahead, but I know that work I am putting in now will make those years easier to tackle. Here's to everyone who have progressed so well years after they hit their mid thirties, I hope I can achieve the same success.

New to the forum and BB scene

Good morning all
Just wanted to see what the forums have to offer. I do appreciate that there is a place for the more mature folks.
I have several questions regarding getting fit and bodybuilding, so I will thread through and see if I can find any information.
It is intimating when you see all these great pictures, but I have to keep my focus on what I want to achieve.

New to the board

Hey everybody. Just wanted to say hello and I love the board. Been lurking on here for a couple weeks and thought I'd tell everyone how much I appreciate the sense of community here and the motivation that it gives for everyone to have each other's backs.

Also, really enjoy hearing training tips from everyone. Been working out on and off since I was in middle school, but if I've learned anything in that time, it's that you can always learn more. So, thanks to everyone.
