The BEST PRO/CHO/FAT Ratio??
The purpose of this thread is to help me and others with their diets.
Is there an ideal protein/carb/fat ratio for positive MUSCLE GAIN? If so, what's optimal and...
How do you go about calculating the amount of calories you need to increase muscle mass??
Any comments appreciated
Thanks!

No.
Your ratio should be a result of planning out your macros individually...not the other way around.
Different people will have different ratio's.

Depends on hormonal factors.
Insulin resistant people will do better on lower carb, and higher protein and fat.
Insulin sensitive people will do better on high carbs with high protein and low, low fat.
People in the middle (most people) do best on isocaloric (33/33/33) diets.

right for what?
everyone on bb.com is so caught up in this numbers game or macro ratios.
they are all basic guidelines. every one is different. experiment and see what works for you.
personally if you want a number i only count protein in the off season min 1.5-2g per lbw bw.
contest start 40/40/20 and it changes as i progress...
hope this helps

There is no set in stone macros for anyone for cutting or bulking? Why because the body is not a textbook, everyones body reacts different to carbohydrates ( some are better low and high carb) also some people do better on having fat as their fuel source compared to others.
In the end its about finding how many calories you need, and then adjusting the macros based on how it responds to your body

General guideline for me:
1-1.5g per lb. bodyweight of protein
+
at least .5g per lb. of bodyweight fat
then fill in the rest of the calories with carbs and you're golden.
Then make small modifications based on preferences.
