Hissy fit or not, it was still a superb match- that HBK PPV run in 1996 will likely never be matched for quality.

Jimbob, have you been smoking crack of recent? You seriously think that over-booked clusterf*ck was a good match? Between this thread and the Jericho thread.............You've got me baffled!

Most people think HBK vs Vader was a good match. I didn't read your first response since it was a little long but I'll get around to it. The only thing I know is that Vader messed up the elbow drop spot and HBK called him gay for it. Other then that it was a great match and I loved it as a kid, and it's still a decent watch now.
Btw is your favorite wrestler Bret Hart?

Yes I thought it was a tad ovebooked with the false finishes, but it was two top notch wrestlers in there- I thought it was an excellent match then & the last time I saw it around 2003.
My only problem was HBK had gone over Vader clean at the house shows for weeks leading up to the show & the way he stole Vader's heat, after the end of the 6 man match at the prior PPV.

nice work squizzy. reps after spread.
but i disagree with the match being bad. one and only time ive seen it was live (i was 14) and i thought it was very good, and was pleased hbk won. really looking forward to watching these clips and looking out for this hissy fit you speak of.
but for the record, i agree with jimbob, hbk's ppv work in 1996 is of extreme high quality.
royal rumble victory
v owen hart (iyh 6)
v bret hart (wm 12)
v diesel (iyh 7)
v bulldog (iyh 8)
v bulldog (kotr)
w/ sid and ahmed johnson v vader, bulldog and owen (iyh9) *vader pinned hbk to win this one*
v vader (summerslam)
v mankind (iyh 10)
v sid (survivor series)
it was a run of very good matches, several of which were classics. (hart, diesel, bulldog kotr, mankind)

that michaels/vader match from summerslam 1996 was a great match and its the only time in wwe that vader got himself over. his monster character in america was done because hogan had already made him look like a pussy a year earlier
wwe were never ever going to push vader, all the top guys were going over him on houseshows prior to that match, taker beat him clean in 2-3 mins about a months before that at a houseshow

*Facepalm*
Further proving that politics are what will forever be at the fore-front of WWE/New York's booking policy. What a farce. Vader's entire career (spare for the whole Hogan debacle in WCW) he was booked as a monster heel, and it worked. He had great success in Japan, and WCW. What a huge waste of talent. He was easily the best "big man" of the 90's. No ifs, ands, or buts.

Yeah, it's sorta' a toss-up. I like him and a few other guys equally, but for different reasons. I'd rate the following equal to him:
A)Dean Malenko
B)Ricky Steamboat
C)Chris Benoit (no_e-hate)
Yeah, I'm a sucker for the bland, technical guys. I like a lot of Japanese guys as well, and I'd keep the likes of Angle, Foley, and others not far behind.

Without a doubt my vote is for Ricky Steamboat. Freaking Travesty not to get a world title run, or shot for that matter in the WWE. He could have gone over Hogan as a face....if booked right!
2nd place for me is Mr. Wonderful Paul Orndorff/

I think people confuse being a great character & cutting funny promos with being a great wrestler, Hall had about 4 moves.

Scott Hall was at one time considered one of the best by Pro Wrestling Illustrated not to have won a world title. I remember the article. It was probably 15 or so years ago. Maybe others have since surpassed him as more deserving since then.
I took wrestler in this question to mean all skills not just technical skills. If someone means only pure wrestling they need to be more specific.
I would add Owen Hart, British Bulldog to my list. Owen was said to be too small but with Eddie and Benoit winning that's out the window. BB I thought would have been a good choice when he was at his best. Maybe drug problems kept the title from him, I'm only guessing.
Anyone remember the term scientific wrestling (used in 80's)? Just another way of saying technical. I always thought saying scientific was weird. There's nothing scientific about wrestling. They're not doing scientific experiments in the ring.

on pure in ring talent alone . . . . SHELTON BENJAMIN!!
Just THINK of the feud he could have had w/ Lesnar being the monster heel whos a bigger stronger version of Shelton more or less
add to that they were on the same college wrestling team omg this is a dream match for me

It was sometimes spelt & pronounced that way by various announcers.

Well he had a body & a look- although that look is somewhat homosexual, Road Dogg had the mic skills, his ring skills were subpar, he was over when he was with Rodd Dogg &/or DX, he was over when he was doing the gay thing with Palumbo- when he was solo he was not over at all, still he did have JR telling us what a great natural athlete he was every week.
