Exclamation A Smith Machine Question

This may seem like a Stupid question, but can anyone explain to me how it seems like I can lift more on the Smith Machine, than without it? For example: I can bench about 245 lbs. with the Smith Machine; however, if when I go to the regular bench, I can probably only do between 205 and 225 lbs.

It's on guides so you don't need to stabilize the bar as much and the bar itself weighs less.

on a smith machine the weight is stabilized for you, where on regular bench press you have to stabilize.

You dont require your stabilizing muscles with the smith machine which is why your lifting more, use them both and get the best of both worlds.
