Bro. I am so proud of you man... This is coming from a dude who 2 years ago weighed just under 400 pounds. I have lost almost 200 pounds so far, and I am about 20 pounds away from a sixpack. I plan to make an epic before and after thread when I get there, so I cannot post before pics yet. You can do it man! I promise you that if you stick with it and make this a permanant lifestyle change you will get lean!
I am most likely moving out to Ohio some time later this year it would be cool to meet you and if you ever need any encouragement or advice I am here for you man. I am adding you to my bodyspace as well.

Great job, Ameno. It sounds like you have the right frame of mind and a good sense of humor. Great advice on this thread. I lost 110 lbs. pretty quickly and now I'm struggling to lose another 30. It seems like I was a fat burning fool there for awhile but now the fat has dug in and is fighting back. I turned to lifting weights to try and fill in some of the loose skin that my weight loss created. It really helps to start lifting and create some good lean muscle. You burn more calories and feel great doing it.
Good luck!

Thanks! i've heard the last few pounds are pretty tenacious, you'll get there in due time i'm certain. I am abit worried about the loose skin, i'm hoping it wont' be too bad for me. My first goal is to get around 220-230lbs and then hopefully drop another 30ish lbs before trying to add it back up in muscle. I don't have a clear sense on what i'm going to do when i get there, i just need to get there first. Part of my routine is to alt lift and cardio. lift one day, cardio the next and so on. with a rest when my body is feeling fatigued, i think i am building up some good muscle
best of luck with those last pounds man!

Don't take this the wrong way but I think it is totally unacceptable for anyone to let themselves get that big and out of shape.
Congratulations on doing something about it, and doing it very effectively I must say so.

Thanks, ameno. I also found that integrating weightlifting with cardio gave me a good balance while losing weight. If you start building the muscle now, it will make it much easier later when you reach your weight-loss goal. My routine was cardio/weights 3X/week. IMHO, if you have not started a thorough weight-lifting routine, you may want to consider it. It could help you break through any plateaus you are reaching and force your body to adapt to its new weight while building muscle.

It's easier than you think. If you've never been extremely overweight, it's hard to understand how easy it is to allow it to happen. It just creeps up on you until one day you are shocked at what you've become.
But, like you said at least ameno is taking care of it now.

I'm not sure everyone realizes that they're doing it and i'm almost sure it's not intentional, the important part is that he's made a commitment to it now and we have to help keep him on track not bring him down He knows it sucked at that weight - that's why he's losing it.

Coming from a family where most meals were fried foods as a child and not even knowing what that little square box on a container was as a child makes it very easy to get to that weight. It doesn't happen in a year, it happens over time. Food, depression, stress, all of these things factor into extreme weight gain. Alot of my weight came from depression and food. usually only eating a big meal now and again but a horrible meal at that, never having a scale and never getting any real advice from doctors on weight loss. I'll have you know that one actually recommended a tooth pick ice cube diet. (just as it sounds, freezing tooth picks in icecube tray and eating them... yeah)
I'm sure it was in joking but do you have any idea how hurtful a statement like that is to someone as a child? When you're put into a position where you don't have any help and have no where to look for it, you can fall pretty far. Like i said at one point you get to where you're like "ok, i accept me for me, i can't change this. ect ect" Because you've got nothing else and no one is openly trying to help you.
Me and my brother had been looking for a diet that actually worked the last 3-4 years, and not having a whole lot of success in that department. the internet wasn't a great pool of knowledge as it is right now, i'm sure the stuff was out there but its hard to find when you're not sure where you should be looking.(didn't find this place until a month or two ago.) For as much as i can remember in my life, i've always been a big person, even as a child, playing multiple sports and bike riding, i was still putting on weight. I think that may be related to the fact of having steroids in my body at a younger age for astma, but i'm not entirely sure as i don't know all the details behind that. When you've always been a big person and you've carried that weight, you really don't have a perspective of how big you are.
I've never been one of those people that just eat and eat and eat and eat, as most people seem to think is the case for anyone that got grossly overweight. But you know how it is when you're eating empty carbs and sugars and things like that and your body is no longer burning it and just storing it away, i'm pretty certain i may have been sitting at a point where my body just stored everything i ate, even though it didn't nened to do it. Most of my extended family is big too, this is where someone would say its "gene related". But when you're stuck in a sedeatry lifestyle, it can and will happen, when your diet is bad, your emotions are running wild and you have no idea what you're doing.

That's my brother, as you can see we both went wwith the same program to resolve our weight loss. Even though he's the older and "big" brother by age, i've always been the biggest by weight alone.

Yeah i'm on something like that right now. lifting/cardio/lifting/cardio/lifting/cardio/rest for my days, sometimes i don't even have a rest day and just keep going but i'm careful with that as i don't think i want to hit the point of overtraining. Plateaus are terrible lol. I realaly like lifting though, i need some larger weights, definately want to have more muscle mass. I remember at one point it was near impossible to lift myself off the ground to do a pushup and now i can easily get up to 15-20ish. normal / wide.

There's nothing wrong with working out, but don't go over board like some people do.
They are 300lbs and they think they can eat whatever and bulk to 400lbs before cutting, that's just foolish.
I believe, that at your current state, if you even worked out with moderate weight and increased your cardio to walking, you'll see a huge improvement.
Just remember that before you can ANY results - muscle, fat lose, abs, calves OH MY!... the magic really starts in the kitchen.
Changing the types of food and doing the SAME things you do now, you'll lose weight.

Yeah my diet is pretty clean, i'm more interested in seeing the numbers drop than going up again. my 40minute cardio program right now is a good mix of things from the p90 set. going to add in abit of jump roping for fun. too much of a wuss to walk in 15 degree weather, but its on the list fo things to do. Once i figure out what i'd like to set for foods for my calorie intake, i'll likely post it here for feed back.
ya Dortee, it all comes together in the end

I had one of those artic jackets, I started just by walking a few blocks, then a few more... then a few miles, then started picking the speed up, then finally got to running.
As of today, my cardio is crap. I haven't done any running for over six months during my bulk, but lately I just started. I love cardio, and walking is a great way to not only burn calories, but to get places too.

Well was starting my 2nd leg of weight loss today, was going to at least have a weigh in. But apparently my scale no longer works, ugh. (can scales commit suicide?!) XL-550 you served me well *sniff*. So here are my measurements (assuming i did them all correctly) so i can at least have them later down the line.
weight:328
bodyfat: 40% ish
chest:52
arms:16
waist:48
hips:52
thighs:30
now to go shop for a new scale, maybe one that gives a body fat %
Also any thoughts on the nitrotech hardcore protein? Currently using the Optimum 100% chocolate mint and liking the results of that annd sometimes the LG lipotropic (holy horrible taste..but also great results). Also should i be looking into some pre/post workout supplements? suggestions welcomed.

You have an incredible drive with all of this. I wish you all the luck in the world! You're already half done!!!
One thing I would recommend is egg whites for breakfast. I usually make ~5 egg whites + 1 whole egg, scrambled with diced (low sodium) ham, a LITTLE BIT (don't go overboard!) of shredded cheddar, and some diced bell peppers/green onions. Egg whites are good protein, and fill you up. The best part is, you can never ever have too much, because it's so good for you. I make eggs every single morning. Eggs are the single most complete protein you can eat, period. Try it out!

Awesome thread, will read again. I am currently 410 down from 460 and i know just how easy it is to go from over weight to morbidly obese. I cant wait to be apart of "formerly fat crew".

Keep at it man, I was 465 May 2008, life is much better now.
To the OP looking good man. Have you started to get worried about loose skin and what to do about it? I know its something I'm going to have to start worrying about soon.

I figure i'll end up with some, but i had heard ussing things like lotion and stuff would help tighten up my skin while i'm losing weight, so i may start doing that. Honestly its more of a worry when i get there type of things, i'm hoping it won't be too bad. I want to gget down to a low number and then start defining and coming back with muscle, which i'm hoping would eliminate the loose skin proble without some sort of surgery.

Ahh been awhile since i've posted in my own post, closing in on the 300lb mark. Roughly 8lbs or so to goo before I get there, god will I be happy once i can finally see the scale say 299lbs or less. As I keep moving forward with this, i'd have to say my diet is ccurrently between 1800 to 2000 calories. 150-220g's of protein 65-100g's of carbs, and fats and sugars under 75g's. When i'm keeping it completely clean, I assume keeping it like this for the next 80ish pounds or so will do wonders for eliminating the fat while not destroying any muscle I may have, anyone that can confirm this? Hoping to get some more pictures up when I do hit 300lbs but we'll see, Doubt there is much if any improvement over the last set.
Any more advice as I step into this new zone, would be greatly appreciated.

Don't let comments like that discourage/upset you, there is always at least that one person that thinks they have to judge another. I learnded a long time ago pushing someone else down doesn't make you any taller.
You and I are in the same boat and with the same basic goals. Eight months ago after suffering a industrial accident that took half my hand a left nerve an tendom damage in my left arm I underwent a total knee replacement. Depressed, injured I ballooned from an already obeise state to 407 lbs. (48 yrs)
Eight months ago I started a 5 day weight routine w/cardio and my presnt weight today is 315 lbs for a loss of 92 lbs and a goal weight of 230 lbs
Eight months ago I couldn't walk further than the kitchen, presently I walk 6 miles a day on the treadmill and 21 miles on the stationary bike plus my 45 min routine.

Ouch, sorry to hear about the hand man, that sounds harsh. Awesome work on your progress so far man Nah no comments like that will ever get to me, because people who have never been up to that weight will never understand what its like, so while they can always assume, they'll never know. We'll definately hit that goal, i'm aimming to finish that first goal this year, hopefully. It may be the first but its definately not the last, so much work todo with my body its not even funny. Might just be becoming obsessed with it hahah.

you still admirin' your wrists? xD hehe. you told me that you love how you can see your wrist veins now.
it's gunna be so epic as you start to see more veins pop all the way up your arms. your wrists are 1st, forearms will be 2nd, elbows 3rd, & biceps/deltoids 4th.
keep up the great work! =)
